  1. I have a question. Up until two weeks ago, after the games except perhaps the Edmonton game the word around town was LaPo had called a good game.  After the last two the word is Nichols just lost them. Yesterday, we had a great first quarter. In the second we had a turnover but at 20-0 that was quite manageable. Then things changed.  Nichols was throwing lots of passes away and Harris was no longer used. Why was that? Had LaPo changed his game plan or was Nichols telling him to go fly a kite and not interfere?

I would suggest Nichols is a team player and does what LaPo tells him to do. Now, maybe Nichols has blinders and can't see other receivers and throws it away. Anyway, I just can't see Nichols going rogue on his boss. He's the guy that can ask to sit him down.

So the question is: might it be that LaPo gets cold feet after getting a substantial lead and goes into a shell totally oblivious to what is happening around him? 13th man syndrome.

I know times are desperate in Toronto but trading for Collaros is a brutal move. Guess Fajardo is now the chosen one in Riderland.

Based on the results of wins against a team that has gone 1-13?  Oh well, not our circus, not our monkeys.

Because we don't need to make a knee-jerk reaction, are not troubled by the cap and know what Matthews can do? Geez, I don't understand the rush to drop someone so fast.

We need to play our best players to give us the best chance of winning. This week he's a healthy scratch.  If he's able to do lots why is he not doing it tomorrow? He's being beaten out by a guy possibly making minimum.    Unless of course if a healthy scratch does not mean that.

I honestly don't really care about Chris Matthews right now.

He has missed basically the whole season and we are doing just fine.

He is not someone who has shown to be a proven commodity for us. He has barely been able to get on the field

So why are we paying him. From what I remember he did not come cheap and right now it's good cap money being just blown away.  Lawler has been more productive so far.  His escapade has nothing to do with how I think about his status.

If either of these teams dream of beating us, they better wake up and apologize.

I would suggest they keep on sleeping. Not so painful.

Listening to Derek Taylor on CKRM halftime show and here is what he said. "I watched the Calgary game and the Winnipeg game but this game is more fun. This is the game people enjoy." Rod Pedersen trained him well.

  6. Tough crowd! Had we lost  they would have needed to tell all the farm stores to lock the shovels and forks. We needed to win the game and that  was settled by half time.  The team's coaches decided to ease up in a gesture of sportsmanship. Why some blame Nichols for the play in the second quarter is beyond me. He was lights out in the first half and there was nothing that would not have made him play the same in the second half had he needed to. He was playing  MOS/LaPo's game.

The only thing I think might have been good is if they had pulled Nichols to give the backups more play. Consequently, as a Bomber fan it was not as interesting  in the second half but the happiness of winning made it fun to watch.

I am not a supporter of ever running up a score on a team but I think in this game we kinda need to...or should just to show that we are a team to be feared..anything short of a 3 score win I think would be disappointing

You're right! Running up the score like Hamilton did shows poor sportsmanship.  Of course there is always an exception. When the guys across the line look like slime all bets are off...

Fajardo played ok, he got pressure. He tried to force some passes that simply were not there, rookie mistake. I'm sticking with him at qb without any question.

Hey Ripper, you seem to be much more generous in your assessment of your QB as opposed to when assessing our's.  Those so called rookie mistakes looked a lot more like "deer in the headlights bailouts".

So, the penalty occurred after yards were gained, but not before the TD was scored....basically that's it. They figure he was at about the 10yd line when the foul occurred, so they spot it there, and march it back 15 for the penalty. Play resumes at the 25, 1st Down Bombers...

    Thanks much.

  10. Someone smarter than me (and there are plenty) should explain to me why Adams' touchdown did not count. The play ends up with an official signalling a touchdown.  The ref says the penalty occurred after the play and moves the ball to the 15.

Question: if the penalty occurred after a play that ended with a TD, why was the penalty not assessed on the ensuing kickoff? There is no difference in the final outcome of the drive except Adams deserved that stat after the great catch.

I'm basing it on all the casual fans I have been listening to when I am out an about.  The general consensus is that Nichols is boring and not that fun to watch play,  then they always end with hoping they get to streveler play again sometime soon.

Ah those casual fans who are not happy  while gorging on the horn of plenty. Maybe you're talking to the wrong crowd. Try those across the street who are walking in the sun.

How well did Streveler do when given a bone-head play to execute on a second and short?

  12. Maybe when analyzing the play of Nichols we should consider the following:

Nichols first time under fire was game 1

The interior of the Oline is still kind of soft. Nichols ate a lot of balls last night because the defence had come through.

This was his first game with Matthews and second with Whitehead.

Nichols is just a lowly private on that field. He does as he's told. Play selection has a lot to do with how the game rolls along.

    Edmonton has a good Dline.

Why don't we wait until after the next two games to see how things work out.   He did take us to the Western Finals.

  13. Like so many times before two players of the CFLPA are involved in an incident. One player gets hurt as the result of a grade 2 roughing penalty and the other gets a 25 yards penalty plus a two game suspension.  The PA notifies the League  it will appeal the suspension as has been the case in most other instances. Where is the will to promote safety?  So at some point does it get included in a suit?

I’m sorry but three other QBs took heavy questionable hits this week - these quarterbacks got up and shook it off so we’re not talking about it

lawrence hit was dirty but every other QB in the league would have got up and we’d be talking about a fine or 1 game...

How any quarterback can absorb an illegal hit should not have anything to do with how the league should deal with the punishment.  I don't know why a guy who might suffer a concussion should be treated any differently than a guy who has never had one. The result of the hit should not be considered.

Reviewing the play quite a few times I can not see how Lawrence can convince anyone he was going to tackle him. With the position of his arms that could not have happened.  It is hard to accept a player would go to injure a member player who like himself is trying to earn a living.  It's even harder to accept that the PA is not supporting the one hurt .

Considering it was Lawrence, you can't help but think that it was part of the gameplan going into to hit him in the head first chance they got to try to take him out of the game.

I can not believe any of the coaches would even consider that kind of action.  It might have been Lawrence's plan to give his team a better chance of winning.  Sadly it has stained the whole team. What happens within that organization will  demonstrate how management feels about the hit and what it will do to assure the league it will not happen again.
