blitzmore reacted to Doublezero in 2-pt conversions
Stamps successfully executed 2-point conversions three times in that game for a total of six points.
O'Shea was asked after the 37-33 loss why Bombers don't try 2-pt conversions. "We have our formula," he said. "They try to get you to chase points early - I don't really fall into that trap." Link: https://www.bluebombers.com/2019/10/19/coach-oshea-post-game-54/
But logic tells you that if you succeed even 51% of the time on 2-pointers - you are further ahead than if you don't attempt any 2-pointers at all. Which is basically where the Bombers are. They don't try: https://www.cfl.ca/2019/10/10/ferguson-breaking-two-point-conversion/
But they should. And this is just further evidence of Oshea's stubbornness becoming a consistent liability. Not saying Bombers would have won vs Stamps if they'd tried 2-pointers but ....

Umm... Fenner, Rose, Okpo, Nevis, Heath, Cummings, Westerman... 'cheap vets' - give me a break...
Walters has focused just as much if not more on big name signings and top picks for Hall... let's not act like Hall has been unjustly served
I honestly believe that Macho Harris, Hurl, Shologan, Jeff Hecht are 'Richie Hall' guys... these are not dudes forced on him by a tyrannical regime...

Sure, they were .500 without him. The guys they had the last couple years behind him were horrendous when they got extended play, Stanzi, Buckley etc.
The Bombers have won a fair number of games in the past 4 seasons with significant pieces out too. To me the big difference is QB and the fact Lapo really can't scheme to do what a team like Hamilton is doing with anyone at QB.

Calgary has a great QB. When they had Burris and Tate they went through many more years of what we've been doing, beating up on average/crappy teams in the regular season and losing to better competition in the playoffs. They had a transition from Barker to Hufnagel in there and won a championship.
I mean if we're looking at bringing in someone at Hufnagel's level as GM or Head Coach or both I could be swayed. Just don't think the candidate is out there or that the Bombers will pay for it.

I’d like to see us take more chances on offence
because,
playing safe, hasn’t really worked out for us.

blitzmore reacted to Deiter Fan in Correct me if I'm wrong, but...
I totally get people feeling dejected and pessimistic after losses like this especially when they are not isolated instances...and I totally get people choosing to remain positive even after losses like this regardless how often they occur.
What I will never get is people seeming to taking negative comments directed at the team personally and lashing out at commenters.

O'Sh blew it on the last drive in my view. Should have taken the holding penalty and forced a longer field. And call your timeout when your D was in complete disarray and we got schooled.
And the defensive performance was horrendous. If we had played prevent defense properly we win. Wrap up and tackle. Ugh.

I said it before and I'll say it again, the coordinators for this team are the single biggest thing holding them back.
That's 2 games for sure and probably 3 that they've cost us by being entire too passive.

The D line shouldn't get any stars this game. Sure they shut the run down but VA had all day back there. Defense as a whole looked like they went out and enjoyed that Montreal nightlife. They weren't even great in the first half, it was just harder for their offense because they didn't have the ball a lot

Goat horns to plop and hall. For going soo conservative and wasting awful blitzes respectively.
1 Harris
2 streveler
3 DL for shutting down the Al's run game
HH to the smash on Adams by kongbo

blitzmore reacted to rebusrankin in Looking ahead to the Banjo Bowl
If the D plays like it did yesterday and the offense plays like it did after Q1 the entire game, we win the Banjo Bowl. If we do that and the refs call holding like they should on the Riders and they get penalties for their cheap shots (see Rempel, see the hit on Lawler when he was out of bounds by Edem) we win in a rout.
-
blitzmore reacted to JuranBoldenRules in Chris Streveler - Has your opinion changed?
I think his accuracy is actually a strength. His mechanics on the deep ball are poor but his mid-range stuff (10-20 yards) is the best we've seen from a Bomber QB since Glenn. The deep ball is something that can improve.
Our pass protection in Sask was terrible, Augustine has no idea who to take, our interior OL is struggling with Desjarlais and Hardrick is really struggling. Streveler hung in there despite that and came back from an awful first quarter.
Streveler is pretty good on the move and good on the scramble. Our receivers need to work on the scrambles because we missed a few big opportunities there yesterday when Streveler extended plays for 7-8 seconds.
Our protection scheme needs some work, need more max protect with 7 blockers and 2-3 guys in a route on one side of the field, get Streveler on the roll, if pass is there take it, if run is there take it. We ran very little RPO kind of looks and the ones we did were huge plays, the Lawler pass, the Augustine run. The thing about those option passing looks is that the D has to defend the back getting the ball, Streveler taking the ball and the pass, all you need is a slight hesitation and we have a ton of space opened up. The misdirection causes the D to cover the entire width of the field. When we use it we move the ball, when we don't use it, we suck. This is with any of our QB's.
Lapo's insistence on straight dropbacks with 5-6 blockers is not going to work. And that's not on Streveler, you won't see BLM or Harris or Reilly or f-ing MBT running as many dropbacks as we had Streveler run. It's a scheme that doesn't work.

Did some pruning in this topic. Let’s not get too personal about our starting QB’s injury and do try to keep things civil.

blitzmore reacted to Tommy in Nichols Injury
Although I’m not a Nichols fan I’ve wondered what would happen if he got hurt. Love Strevelers heart but he has shown nothing except that he can run. He looks like he’s taken a step back. My problem is why management hasn’t been bringing in guys if they know Streveler isn’t ready. Doesn’t seem the coaches have very much confidence in him except to run. Again my question why were they not bringing in guys ? Be pro-active instead of re-active!!

blitzmore reacted to trueBlue83 in Matt Nichols Discredited Too Much? Passing Yards Are Meaningless
A few things.... I dont remember Buck Pierce dumping it off all the time. And with Charlie & Sellers... that's a two headed monster that any OC with half a brain would have utilized no differently.
Drew Willy had an atrocious O-Line, so to compare him & Nichols is difficult.. Nichols played behind the best OLine in the league the last couple season and still looked mediocre more often than not.
And finally.....LaPo isn't the one making reads and throwing the ball. He doesnt call nothing but 6 yard routes. Nichols just panics and gets rid of the ball early 70% of the time. Call a play bad if you want, but I bet many routes dont even get fully run before that ball is gone.

Say what you want about his play, but he loves our city, his daughter's middle name is named after our city. People here say he's a crybaby, but nobody on this forum (except maybe Tburgess) has had even 1,000 people angry at them at the same time. That stuff stays with you, even if you are a professional.

blitzmore reacted to JuranBoldenRules in Matt Nichols Discredited Too Much? Passing Yards Are Meaningless
Hall has one problem and that's scheming and calling blitzes. Most of them are predictable and shown pre-snap which basically renders them useless. He loves to blitz on passing downs and that usually entails blitzing 2 out of WIL/MLB/S which means the D has a level of pass rushers and a deep level of DB's on top of all routes but not attacking slants and crossers. That scheme is getting chewed up by YAC and giving up way too many 2nd down conversions the last two weeks.

It shouldn't have come down to it and it's definitely not the reason the Bombers lost but that was a horrible spot and it still looked like the ball was short on the measurement.

My family is full of protective services. 2 RCMP, 1 City, 1 paramedic, 1 city Firefighrer and 1 retired federal firefighter. All are above and beyond fantastic and hard working and have risen to very high levels. Not all are like that, but the vast majority are. I hate people who **** on cops amd first responders. It's among the most brutal jobs a person can do.

There’s a bad cop now and then. But most are great people, hard working, in a very stressful job. They make good neighbours. I’d rather support the fuzz than degrade them.
