  1. While I hate the idea of Zach Anderson getting bumped out of a starting role, I don't mind Ryan Lucas... he was actually getting lots of reps and looking quite good last year until Jon Gott ended his season with a pretty questionable block. I do believe that Lucas is our best option as a second Canadian starter on defence.... better than using two NI's in the secondary or trying to wedge Graig Newman into a starting MLB role, at least.
  2. Yes, I agree that Duthie would be the natural choice. Or maybe a guy like Rod Smith.
  3. Probably no coincidence that it is the same guy who was long-snapping for Hajrullahu at Western.
  4. Mitchell failed his physical. Not sure he'd be a great pickup.
  5. Hajrullahu would be a non-counter too, then?
  6. He hasn't shown any interest in the CFL because he is still playing in the NFL. If he gets cut and can't catch on anywhere, I'm sure he will consider the CFL. His agent is Darren Gill, who represents many CFL players, so you can be sure he is aware that the option to join the Bombers is out there.
  7. I hear those things are awfully loud... Just crank the tunes. OMG!! It glides as softly as a cloud!!!
  8. Easy to say that when she never got the chance to back up any of her promises. Every losing politician can say they told the truth.
  9. Hey, I guess they're right. Senior citizens, although slow and dangerous behind the wheel, can still serve a purpose!
  10. Totally inaccurate. The first time I heard anything about the Thrashers coming to Winnipeg was from Sam Katz in a TV interview when everyone was still talking about the Coyotes. They asked him what he thought about the chances of the Coyotes coming to Winnipeg, and he responded that he didn't think so but that the team he thought people should be more focussed on is the Atlanta Thrashers. He knew exactly what was going on.
  11. Sorry, what is worrying about that? I like not going into camp with January, Boatman, and Taormina, and assuming we'll be fine. Competition is good.
  12. I think it gives some hints. For example, it's not an accident that a guy like Desia Dunn is listed as the starter at WILL. To me, that says we are looking to use that position more like the SAM is traditionally used, as a DB/LB hybrid. I believe that it also shows a lack of confidence in our interior OL when they have an American penciled in at right guard, even though we have guys like Pencer, Swiston, and Kowalczuk who have already been around for awhile. Like you say, a depth chart on day one doesn't mean much. But you are fooling yourself if you don't believe the coaches have already sat down and contemplated which position each player on the roster fits into best, and as such has slotted them in there on the depth chart. These things can and will change, but it is a starting point. If nothing else, it provides some great talking points for an obviously football-starved fanbase.
  13. That's probably what worries me most. I think back to our games against Calgary last year and it really didn't matter how fast or in-position our players were, they were getting steamrolled by the big boys on the Calgary offence... couldn't make a tackle to save their lives.
  14. Zach Anderson 3rd on the chart... If Etch ends up cutting him I'm breaking out the pitch fork and torches I noticed that too. Even if the ratio doesn't allow Anderson to start initially, I'm sure they will find a way to keep him around. He is way too talented to just throw away.
  15. Lots of weird stuff going on in that depth chart. Import at right guard with an NI at right tackle, Desia Dunn starting at WILL, Ryan Lucas starting at DT... obviously very preliminary but maybe gives a look at management's mindset heading into camp in regards to how they want to construct the roster.
  16. Wow, that is awesome news. Great job guys.
  17. lol gbill2004 you're famous.... http://www.winnipegsun.com/2014/05/27/bombers-take-to-offence-on-twitter
  18. Including these two, we have 6 import OTs, so 3 for each tackle spot. Typical training camp depth.
  19. I don't disagree, but CIS QBs are just so far behind the Americans when they graduate. Most of them have played half the number of games, and participated in a system that is nowhere near as comprehensive as the Americans, not to mention the lack of professional coaching. Some may have potential, sure, but enough to warrant giving them a spot as a #3 QB on a CFL roster? I don't know about that. And if you go any lower, say #4 or #5 QB, then it is pretty hard to even get reps for them in practice. I'd love to see more CIS QBs get a chance, but I don't think we're there yet. Someday.
  20. Term length is 3 years. Members can serve only 2 consecutive terms, unless they are a chair, vice chair, or past chair. Then they can serve 4 terms back-to-back (12 years). It is unclear when Asper's term began but I believe 2012 is correct, making 2024 the last year he is eligible.
  21. There hasn't been a deserving QB since Brad Sinopoli, and even he wasn't good enough in the end. Look at a guy like Kyle Quinlan, who dominated in CIS... he would get eaten alive in the CFL. The QBs just aren't on the same level yet.
  22. Every CFL team has to bring in at least one CIS QB to training camp
  23. Sam's a slimebag but there are 2 slimebags running the Bombers too. Sam Katz is on his way out, but the Bombers are stuck with David Asper and Brock Bulbuck until 2024. Term limits don't mean a whole lot when they last 12 years... at which point I'm sure the bylaws will be re-written again so the terms can be extended.
  24. Actually, David Asper and Brock Bulbuck spent $500,000 of the Bombers' money to maintain full control over the Board. Shame on the BOD for allowing their personal issues to cost the club this much money. So you think it was a good idea to allow Sammy to abuse his power and force one of his (unqualified as he has no connections to the City of Winnipeg) buddies onto the Bombers BOD, in exchange for $500,000 in taxpayer dollars? Okay. What difference does it make??? If they get someone from the City of Winnipeg, it is still going to be one of Sam Katz's friends. You know, since he is the Mayor of the city? All this is, is the Board of Directors pissing money down the drain because the three guys in charge can't allow someone else with money and influence onto their Board.
  25. Actually, David Asper and Brock Bulbuck spent $500,000 of the Bombers' money to maintain full control over the Board. Shame on the BOD for allowing their personal issues to cost the club this much money. Or the BOD spent $500k to not give in and play Katz' game of crony politics. And you think this was a good investment? Wow. To keep ONE guy off the Board. Yes, brilliant financial management. Definitely no personal politics involved in that one.
