Burke's comments on what Hervey said about Rottier
17to85 replied to Mike's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
have you ever known a head coach to not have the ability to hire the coaches he wants? Given all the nice things Burke said about the people he kept it's really pretty straightforward. Burke liked all these people and kept them around. -

Difficulty: Tim Burke built this coaching staff that failed so hard. Sometimes, it sure seems like your arguments are more about clearing Mack of any wrong-doing as opposed to the topic at hand. That said, I go out of my way to skewer Sleepy Joe so, hey... And anyway, why is Burke talking about Rottier at all... just get ready for the game already. Are you saying that Burke didn't put this coaching staff together? Yeah lots of them might have first come here through Lapolice, but Burke endorsed them all by keeping them. -

He retained him, same thing as hiring him. Remember the "Gary could be a real good head coach in the CFL" quote? That was Burke talking about Crowton. He hired Casey Creehan, -
Anyone going to Calagary game in October.

It's the god damned schedule makers fault! They should know better than to have the Bombers in Calgary in the fall when I'm busy with work. -

Games like the one the defense played against Montreal and the one last weekend against Saskatchewan don't happen with a roster lacking talent. When the defense shows that they can play at that high a level and they don't do it consistently and have games where they look terrible that to me falls at the feet of the coaches. Maybe they're lacking some talent on the offensive side of the ball in some areas, but the ups and downs of the defense to me is about coaching moreso than the players because we've seen the defense play at such a high level. -

No he's worse than the team around him as a head coach. He is a smart guy and might eventually wind up as a good head coach, but he's nowhere near ready for it now and he does some real puzzling things as a head coach and doesn't seem able to rally the troops. Let's not forget that his record as a head coach is 6-14 which is not good by any stretch of the imagination and many of those losses have been absolute blow outs. The blowouts didn't start happening until Burke took over mind you. Prior to that the team may have lost, but it was at least competitive which is a damned good indication of Burkes limitations as a head coach. -

Yeah and even in the heat of the moment Burke does usually refrain from throwing individuals totally under the bus, just there are some times when he does throw guys under. -

Burke is a goof we've known that for a while now. Hell of a defensive coordinator, but as a head coach no where near ready. -
Bombers moving to the West next year
17to85 replied to sweep the leg's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
The only concern with revenue sharing is that it can become a crutch for poor teams and rather than work on their own markets might just say "Let the prairies pay for it" I wouldn't be opposed to revenue sharing in the CFL, it's small enough and one guy already owns 25% of the league and several other teams are community owned, but I don't wanna see a situation where a couple problem areas never get fixed because other teams are dragging them along for the ride. -

the cap goes up, the tv deal gets split 9 ways rather than 8, I don't think this is the magic bullet that makes every market so viable that people are wanting to believe it is. -
Bombers moving to the West next year

which is exactly why it's bullshit to move them now. Let's at least wait and see if any of the eastern teams get off life support before moving the Bombers yet again. -
So does that mean that the Bombers defense is part of the gang now after the number they did on Durant last weekend?

Bah they shouldn't move the Bombers until Ottawa has proven they can actually support a team. What happens if they fold again? Bombers flop divisions again? nonsense. Sounds like the CFL wants an easier road for the Ontario teams to the playoffs. -
Our offence should have been getting warning points all season long. at least we could expect them to get some points consistently in that case.

This week Pick 'Ems has BC as visitor

just check your sanity at the door when you start reading stuff there. Lot of absolute raging homers starting pissing contests left right and centre. -
the way to wear them more often was to get them designed like that when they were doing all the jerseys before.... it's not some revolutionary discovery that the fans prefer the royal blue look, they knew that after the last round of retros, why on earth they didn't take that design when they did the jerseys I have no clue.

Walters not optimistic about signing Henoc before free agency
17to85 replied to Mr. Perfect's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
but what is being discussed are players who aren't under contracts right now who are free agents. Aaron Kelly would be a player who is a recent example of that. -
why? what has he ever done to make you think he's better than Goltz? What has Hall done for that matter? Or is this simply a case of "I don't like this guy cause he's not an allstar so maybe one of the other guys is an allstar"?

I've got the 2x Muamba jersey in the new colours and I like it, but I don't understand why it is so tight. My 2x jersey in the old colours is big enough to drown in. The jersies are supposed to be the same size, yet there is a big difference between the sizing, so much so that the new jersey isn't even that comfortable to wear. I am hoping now that Wade is in charge, that he will be taking care of his fellow husky Bomber fans and correcting this oversight. Either increase the size of the 2X jersies or add a bigger size to the options. Reebok has made everything fitted for the last few years. Hockey jerseys too. I can understand for the players, don't know why for retail. Shush. more stuff needs to be fitted rather than made to accomodate fat people. Sigh. It's also the shoulders. I've got extremely broad shoulders that no amount of weight loss is going to fix. The jersies should be bigger. I've got the broad shoulders too but there's nothing that bugs me more than having something that fits across the shoulders and chest but is way way too big around the stomach... and I'm not even that thin either. I just feel like I'd need to weigh 300 pounds for this stuff to fit properly. I'm 6'6, so the fitted stuff Reebok puts out is usually too short for me, and they don't make tall sizes for jerseys. Jerseys used to be oversized wide and long, which meant I'd wear a shirt under it otherwise it felt like wearing a bed sheet, and could wear a jersey over a parka. No chance of getting one of those current jerseys over a parka, it wears more like a t-shirt. They make a lot of clothes for short fat people, but not much for taller people who aren't sticks. I've never found jerseys to be too short, I'm 6'4 myself and they're one of the few items out there that aren't ridiculously short without being twice as wide as it needed to be. I've never wanted to get a jersey over a parka so maybe I'm just ok with it fitting more like a tshirt than something big enough to wear as an outer layer.

This is my concern, as well. Coaches tend to be a very stubborn lot. First of all, still the best avatar/username combo on the site... but I don't know that Burke is that stubborn, his one redeeming characteristic as a head coach is that he's able and willing to learn and change.

I think the main thing to take away is the context. I mean if a qb puts the ball in a catchable spot and the receiver drops it ending the possession is it entirely fair to just say "not enough yards passing"? If a possession ends cause the running game gets stuffed is it fair to only use the number of passing yards? 12 passing yards is not a good stat, but it's gotta be examined within the context of the game.

Or maybe he would have thrown two incompletions and gone off the field and his stats would look even worse. Pointless to get into hypotheticals based on dropped passes because guess what, every QB has to deal with dropped passes. and maybe he would have got sacked or maybe fumbled or maybe threw an INT, point is we just don't know. It's as likely he could have made some more throws and picked up some more yards as anything else, but you can't fault a qb when others are the ones taking the offense off the field in 2 seperate occasions.
