I think it means more than that. Hall may not be a long term option in Saskatchewan but he holds value this year, and for them playing in the Grey Cup is priority #2 so from that standpoint they're getting one of the top defensive linemen to help acheive that goal, don't tell me there's no value there. The concerning part about this isn't that the 2nd round pick isn't all that valuable it's that Walters got taken advantage of of by Taman. Taman gets exactly what he wants, a top player for the rest of this year and a draft pick to replace the player he lost (and maybe lost to ottawa anyway?) Taman comes out looking real good, Walters gets a guy who is maybe an average player on a good day.... hardly the kind of thing he should be adding a pick for. Realy looks like he either made a trade for the sake of making it or got absolutely schooled in the negotiation of said trade, either way not a fan.

I doubt that was his only option, other teams were also interested in Hall. Whether this trade is good for us or not comes down to how good Neufeld is versus what we would have chosen for our pick, which was 10th overall. We seem to have a lot of NI Olineman that are not of, or barely of starting caliber. Neufeld may be an upgrade, but will we really be able to challenge teams like Saskatchewan when we seek to acquire their 6th or 7th Olineman as our starters? The draft is a crapshoot, but your odds of winning go up the more picks you have, especially in the first 2 rounds. I think a strategy of hanging on to our picks, even though it will make us worse in the short term, is the only way we eventually join the stronger franchises like Calgary and BC. A 10th pick overall could yield nothing, or it could yield a starting NI lineman that plays at a higher level than Neufeld. You need to find some of the latter is you ever want to develop a premier O-line, and the draft is the most likely place to find them. I agree with you. Especially since based on what we have now, 2 imports on the o-line looks like the ideal set up. With January and Jones it appears we might have something servicable at tackle position and I don't see how this guy helps the interior in a way that it's worth giving up a high 2nd round pick in addition to the top rental player on the market. The whole idea behind rentals is trading something you were going to lose for something maybe useful. trading that plus something maybe useful for something else maybe useful is just bad asset management. Walters really showing that he's got a lot to learn about being a GM here. Really screams of making a move just for the sake of making a move.

I agree totally. As well there is no reason we can't resign Hall next year if he does not catch on in the NFL.Well done Walters. if you actually believe there is a chance Hall re-signs here you're insane. Why come back to this place after he gets a taste of a winning team? No as soon as you trade him you ain't getting him back.
-
no that is a terrible attitude to have just to try and justify it. To teams looking to add the missing pieces for a championship run Hall did have value. Walters should have been in the drivers seat but instead of getting straight across value for one of the best if not THE best at his position for that team looking to put themselves over the hump in the playoffs he had to pay a pretty significant price to get something of questionable value (he is a backup still don't forget, maybe he starts here maybe he doesn't but he is not a sure thing) One for one this trade is easily understandable, adding in the draft picks it's a really slick trade by Taman.

so instead we lose Hall AND 10th overall in the draft, great job.
-
This guys a starting NI tackle the same way Pencer and Swiston are otherwise he isn't getting traded for a rental.
-
but that still doesn't make this trade any better. You could make another trade to get another pick without having to lose this trade.
-
Henoc gets MOP, MODP, MOC, hell let's let him play one game on the o-line and call him the most outstanding o-lineman too
-
then Walters should have found another deal or just not traded him. Hell I'd rather get just a 2nd round pick than have to add our 2nd round pick to make a deal happen.

when you're trading rental players you are doing it with an eye to rebuilding, if you're rebuilding you don't give up the better draft picks. Hall for this guy fine but having to add the 2nd round pick, which will be a high 2nd round pick is just unacceptable. Neufeld needs to turn into a damned good player for this trade to be worth it but right now one of the best DEs in the league and a 2nd round pick for a backup offensive lineman and a 4th round pick is not a good trade. You have all the leverage here you should not be the one giving up the better draft pick. Highly unlikely the Bombers had much leverage. Whole league knew Hall is going to the NFL. they had ALL the leverage because they didn't need to trade him and whoever is trying to get him obviously sees him as a missing piece to a championship. In that case you have all the leverage you aren't the one who has to upgrade the other teams draft pick. This is a rookie getting taken to school by a veteran GM. Walters should have played hard ball. Losing guys in FA isn't the worst, there's going to be lots of player movement this offseason anyway keep your 10th overall draft pick and find a backup NI offensive lineman somewhere else. Or if Sask really wants Hall they can give you this guy without the draft picks involved.

We're giving up one of the best defensive linemen in the league AND we have to sweeten the deal with a better draft pick? **** that noise Walters got taken to school on this one.
-
It's too late, apathy has set in no one cares anymore. That's much worse for the team than people being angry and there's nothing they can say that will change that.
-
Getting real tired of your **** Burke. If he put half the effort into preparing the players as he does to making excuses maybe this team wouldn't get creamed every bloody week
-
Players and coaches without a doubt. I cut Bellfool some slack only because he doesn't have the horses but Creehan is hands down the worst defensive co I have ever seen. The players he has are nowhere near as bad as he makes them seem. Our defense is ever so slightly better than in 2005 I think which is really sad when you consider how much more talent is on the defense now compared to then.
-
if they retain burke to save money mark my words it will cost them far more money in the long run because people just won't show up.
-
This might be the worst Bomber team ever, scratch that, I don't think there is a might.
-
was it really worse though? This is putrid
-
be careful what you say about this team. Don't under estimate just how inept they can be.
-
It's Mcmahon, it's always a nightmare, I shudder to think how bad it will be with an inept head coach, probably as bad as it was last year there. First year that I can honestly say I'm not dissappointed that I can't be there to watch.

This isn't the first time. That's the cold hard truth. It's been a long time since things have been this bad though. Mike Kelly era wasn't that long ago. This isn't the first time. That's the cold hard truth. It's been a long time since things have been this bad though. Mike Kelly era wasn't that long ago. Mike Kelly era were the good times compared to what Burke is putting us through. At least Kelly looked like he gave a damn about making the team better. Burke don't give a ****, he's happy to lose in OT cause at least it was close for once!
-
That's the worst part about things right now, I ain't even mad I'm just apathetic and if even a die hard like me is having trouble caring there's going to be a lot of empty seats in that stadium.
-
you can't keep pulling your asses out of the fire all season if you're the Argos, sooner or later the crappy starts were going to catch up to them. as for the late game, **** the riders, that's all.

yes

Really, why? Give us your take. Well ... the suggestion that Alex Hall is somehow worth Darian Durant is laughable, just for starters. You have to take into account how much of a Durant hater he is though
