  1. Quick run down on Challenges and plays that can be challenged. The following penalties may be challenged by the coach whether they were called or not called during play • Defensive Pass Interference • Illegal Contact on a Receiver • Offensive Pass Interference • Illegal Interference – Blocking Downfield on a pass play Note: Should any of the above 4 penalties be challenged, all 4 types will be ruled on • Roughing the Passer • Roughing or Contacting the Kicker • No Yards The following penalty may be challenged by the coach ONLY if it was called during play • Illegal Block Penalties on Kick Plays 1. Team Challenges: • Must be initiated by Head Coach by throwing a challenge flag prior to the next legal snap or within 30 seconds of the start of any TV commercial timeout. It is the responsibility of the coach to get the attention of the nearest official and to throw his challenge flag. • Each team gets two challenges per game, and a third challenge is earned if a Coach wins both of his first 2 challenges. • A team must have a time-out remaining to initiate a challenge. • If the challenge is unsuccessful prior to the 3-minute warning being given in the 4th quarter, the team will lose a time-out. • A team may challenge a Standard Reviewable Aspect at any time prior to the 3-minute warning being given in the 4th quarter. o A review of any Standard Reviewable Aspect will also automatically include reviewing all other Standard Reviewable Aspects. • A team may challenge a Coach Challengeable Penalty at any time in the game like any other challenge subject to the following: o The coach must identify the player that allegedly committed the foul or the player upon whom the foul was committed. Only those players will be viewed in the review. o Coach Challengeable Penalties are not Standard Reviewable Aspects and will not be automatically reviewed by the Replay Official under any circumstance. o A team will only be able to challenge a Coach Challengeable Penalty a maximum of ONE TIME after the 3 minute warning has been given in the 4th quarter and Overtime (together deemed as one period of time) even if they had 2 challenges remaining going into this period of time. o After the three-minute warning has been given in the 4th quarter, a team must have both a challenge and a time-out remaining, or if in Overtime the team must have only a challenge remaining, to be able to challenge a Coach Challengeable Penalty. ❖ If a team challenges a Called penalty during this time, the team uses its challenge but does NOT put a timeout at risk. ❖ If a team challenges a non-called penalty during this time and the ruling is not changed, then the team uses its challenge AND loses its remaining time-out. • A team may challenge a Standard Reviewable Aspect that has already been automatically reviewed by the Replay Official. If they win that challenge they will retain their challenge. CFL OFFICIAL PLAYING RULES 71 • A review of any Coach Challengeable Penalty will also automatically include reviewing all Standard Reviewable Aspects. • A team will be subject to a delay of game penalty for throwing a challenge flag for any of the following: o Attempting a challenge with no challenges remaining. o Attempting a challenge with no time-out remaining.
  2. Hit Lulay a couple of times .. then let's see how good a QB he still is. That said I do hope Hall gets after Lulay / Jennings early and often in this game. Can't let either of those guys sit back and chuck it to the receivers BC has.
  3. Any time Adams has struggled with consistency (drops etc) it's the result of not involving him early. I don't know if he just checks out a bit or what the deal is but it's almost as if he gets 'disinterested' at times when the ball isn't coming his way.
  4. Speaking of did you notice .. Did anyone else happen to notice Hardrick picking Nichols up off the turf after getting rocked last night? It was one of those hits were you could tell Nichols really felt it but #51 was there hauling him off the turf like a rag doll.
  5. Loved the effort but I always cringe when I see receivers (especially rookie receivers) cutting back into traffic .. first thought that always goes through my mind is "Please hold onto the damn ball!"
  6. Why would they have overturned Lankford's return (that was pretty clear cut by comparison)?
  7. Have to give props to Alexander for keeping with the play when he was beaten soundly. Sometimes it's not just sound technique but hustle that can save the day in the end.
  8. Went with my daughter last night and we were there right to the end. Took us a little longer to get out of Gold lot BUT it was much more organized than even the previous week when I had to duck out a bit early. In all, was 30 minutes from car to driveway and I didn't ever feel as though I was waiting unnecessarily or that there wasn't some plan to get us out efficiently (this has been something I've felt and noted in the past, even when I've gotten out quickly).
  9. Hyperbole from either side does nothing to advance the discussion. I would encourage anyone who is presented with an argument (or evidence) that contradicts their view to look critically at it .. research it .. find holes in it .. then present an intelligent counter argument to refute that point. The inability to reason through this is more ideological than it is political (though politics is a central theme to the ongoing discussion). It's not enough to say it's true because I believe it .. I would expect anyone with strong convictions to say that it's true because I believe it, here's why and here's where your argument falls short.
  10. Hey guys. I'll just step in here and ask that we keep all the commentary on the topic and not each other. Gracias.
  11. Well ****, we're playing against backups .. we're screwed! ;-)
  12. I think that's all the CBA allows for (but I could be wrong).
  13. Read a couple of articles today that detailed some negative driving experiences last night and wanted to put this out there for others on the forum. For my part, the drive was uneventful. Left the stadium with 3:02 remaining in the fourth (I'm nursing a torn hamstring so I need a little extra time getting to / from my car). From the time I sat in my car post game (Gold Lot) to the time I pulled into my driveway (Royalwood) was all of 14 minutes .. the only "negative" for me was some uncontrolled pedestrian crossings (by the golf course) that slowed traffic a bit. What about everyone else? Curious to hear about your experiences in light of the bet Wade made.
  14. Positives for me from last night: The crowd was absolutely awesome through 30 minutes of play .. we were into the game .. the atmosphere at IGF was amazing. Winnipeg fans are passionate. The team needs to consistently deliver for them when playing at home. Normand has some under-rated hands. He's a FB who doesn't touch the ball often but he catches everything that comes to him even if he's going to get blown up. Couple of tidy grabs last night as well. The interior of the DL is fantastic this year. You don't move those guys easily and it's helped shore up our run defence in a significant way. The guy sitting two rows in front of me who completely lost his mind when O'Shea was forced to challenge that illegal contact (mugging) on Harris. You sir were bloody amazing.
  15. They missed picking up a lot of delayed pressure and Nichols bore the brunt of those breakdowns.
  16. With so many great breweries in Winnipeg, would it be too much to ask to partner with say .. Half Pints? Peg Beer Co? Torque? to get some descent beer on tap .. Make it happen Miller!
  17. It amazed me that's for sure.
  18. This. It's what's so disappointing for me .. we have a great turnout last night .. the largest since 2014 .. and we **** the bed .. in typical fashion.
  19. What was it that Newsome supposedly said (completely missed it)?
  20. More a case of talent succeeding in spite of the head coach perhaps.
  21. Rust left the team during the season .. sometime around August if I recall correctly.
  22. Especially when you construct your team in such a way as to allow for roster flexibility .. suddenly those "traditional" NI spots are up for grabs and you aren't forced to pay / play NIs when an Import might be a better option.
  23. I've always said I don't give a rats ass about the HC's personality, how he interacts with the media or how well liked he is by players .. if he wins consistently (and brings this team a championship) .. he could throat punch Bob Irving for all I care.
