Cortez among OC's on Bomber wish list

With Jones apparently leaving Edmonton for the Riders .. what are the chances LaPolice gets the head gig in Edmonton .. especially in light of the fact that there is a decided lack of head coaching talent in the league.. -

That's what I was thinking as well .. though I have to admit .. I'm woefully ignorant when it comes to the rules governing assistants in the CFL. -
American writer covers 103rd Grey Cup

It's pretty sad that one of their peers is "calling them out" on their lack of interest in the goings on at IGF .. -
Casey Creehan. Great position coach .. lackluster results as a DC ..

That's the one thing I really noticed as well .. how good IGF looked on TV last night .. really impressive actually.

RedBlacks Logger Chain Saw Team Banned
voodoochylde replied to iso_55's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
Saw this story as well .. not sure what prompted the CFL to reverse their initial decision to allow them to "perform" at the game. -
I guess one could say .. only 50k in attendance in one of the most desirable locations in Canada at this time of year .. only 50k when they are drawing from almost 2.5 million people a population that's 4x that of Winnipeg .. but one wouldn't do that because there are infinitely better / more important things to ***** about. Winnipeg sold out its Grey Cup. By all accounts the festival and events have been a success and positively received. We're going to have decent weather for what should be a great game .. in front of a packed house. Are we. going to ***** about HOW we got there or simply enjoy the spectacle? I know what one I'll be doing.

As "real" a Canadian as Ben Cahoon ever was .. I think it's been said .. Offensive Player over the Defensive Player .. and the RedBlacks are the story this year .. the fact that a guy wouldn't recognize Sinopoli as an all-star but found him worthy enough to be the Most Outstanding Canadian over a guy who was both an all-star and a league pacing impact player (regardless of passport) speaks volumes about the people voting. As far as I'm concerned, Westerman got ******* robbed.

And Westerman didn't win ...

The Winnipeg Blue Bombers are being sued for $50,000 over the cancellation of a Grey Cup contract. Local 63 of the International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees claims that earlier this month it was awarded a contract by the Canadian Football League to work the Grey Cup half-time show earlier this month. Two days later, the Bombers and CEO Wade Miller interfered in the process and convinced the CFL to rescind the contract and award it to another company, according to the lawsuit, filed Tuesday at the Court of Queen's Bench. "They gave us a contract saying that we were going to be providing the labour. So obviously we had to take steps to be able to get people the numbers that they required available. Then all of a sudden they pulled the rug out under our feet," said Barny Haines, who represents the IATSE workers. "So we have no recourse, other than to sue them." The lawsuit also names as defendants the CFL, Triple B Stadium Inc. (the consortium that owns Investors Group Field), Wade Miller and a number of individuals. Matt Maychak, vice-president of communications for the CFL, said the league had no comment on matters that are before the courts.

East Division Final - Ottawa over Hamilton
voodoochylde replied to Mr Dee's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
Their coaches were under contract from the inception of the organization .. and .. it's not like that ownership group .. that franchise .. has the same checkered history that the WBB Football Club has earned over the last 15-16 years .. Not exactly an 'apples to apples' comparison. -
Signed to the Ravens practice squad.

Hindsight is always 20/20 .. I think that given his previous track record .. a lot of the skepticism was well founded .. and it remains to be seen how sustainable the success they've realized this year will be. That said, he deserves all the credit in the world for piecing together the team he did for the run they've made .. it's the right team .. at the right time .. realizing a great measure of success. Good for them. -

Good for Hunt ... Saints signed OLB Phillip Hunt. Hunt made his name by leading the CFL in sacks in 2010, but he has just four sacks in 24 career games in the NFL. One of those takedowns came in Week 1 of this season with the Lions, but Hunt was released the next week. He should be nothing but a depth signing even on New Orleans' struggling defense. -
Blasphemer!

Matthew Scianitti tweeted his awards ballot. Westerman is one of his two votes as All Star at DE. Sinopli isn't one of his all star wide receivers. Sinopli is his vote for outstanding Canadian, his rational is because he reinvented himself and "the WR is reliable. Period" Not good enough to be an all star .. but hey .. let's make you the CFL's Most Outstanding Canadian .. At this point .. it's best to just switch off any pretense of logic and what SHOULD happen and let it ride.

Hey if enjoying a forum is only seeing like minded opinions that's totally up to you.If we were all rah rah we could go 0-18 every year and just gather in a circle and sing praise be Blue!☺ It has nothing to do with "rah-rah". It has to do with some people contributing nothing but whining about how bad the team is. I'm quite willing to except that this team has a lot of warts and if people want to discuss those warts intelligently, I'm all for it. If, on the other hand, people just want to ***** non stop in every thread they can, adding nothing of value to the conversations whatsoever, there's no intelligent discussion to be had so... off to the ignore list they go. Completely agree! But being a mod I get to witness the forum in all its unadulterated glory.

We aren't discussing whether or not he would be a good DC. Just whether or not it would be unrealistic to expect him to know how to Design a Defense along with another DC (Etch), which is what your original statement was. That it would be unrealistic to assume so. I'm simply stating that since he's already shown he can take on field experience and transfer that to a playbook via Special teams. It isn't unrealistic that he could also do that for a Defense. Whether or not it would work out is another discussion all together. If he were a former DC at any level then I'd agree with you. As he wasn't I don't. So only DC's can recognize or design defensive schemes then? I'm betting that lots of defensive position coaches can, to various degrees do it, and I'm willing to bet that some players can too. I know this because there is no "magic" that happens once someone is named defensive coordinator. They are not suddenly able to do things that they couldn't do before, it's just that they are now being paid and given the responsibility for doing it. So does O'shea have a background that might allow him to help a DC put together a defensive package? Of course he does. Arguing that he doesn't is just plain silly. Would O'Shea be really good at doing it? Maybe, maybe not. Sure that's how it works. Once someone has enough experience points they level up and gain new skills that they don't have access to before. Oooh someone's got himself a Post of Burning +1 /nerd off.

Again... not one single person said that... 7-11 or 8-10 is close to .500... 9-9 is exactly .500 ...10-8 or better is over .500... I think that's universally accepted terminology... So you're saying if the team goes 11-7 next year... gets 2nd in the west... maybe makes it to the west finals... that's not good enough for you? The post right before mine said 7-11 was the magic number this year, so yes at least one person said it and there are many more who would just be happy to make the playoffs not matter what after the last few years of futility. Close to .500 means close to .500. It doesn't mean under .500. If I meant under .500 that's what I would have typed. 11-7 would have got us 3rd in the west and 4th overall. Yup... that would have been good enough for me. It's certainly better than the 5 wins which made us the 8th best team. I doubt we win an additional 6 games next year or 120% better than this year, but sure... I'd be happy with it next year. gncXX... This isn't moving the goalposts and I'd be ecstatic if we went 18-0 next year and won the cup. Actually .. it does .. close is just reference to the proximity two objects / points have to one another and ... Oh why bother.

I agree. Baltimore is 14th in total offense right now .. that's despite the fact they've really only had Steve Smith up until he popped his Achilles .. they are doing OK offensively considering their limited talent. It's their defense that's completely crapping the bed. Trestman isn't coming back to Canada in the near future. -
Leggett thinks we need to get tougher meaner
voodoochylde replied to Jpan85's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
It's all about where and how those minutes are logged. The offense comes out of the gate flat and leaves the defense on the field for 20 minutes of the first half, do you not think that has an impact on the rest of the game? Granted it's not always as simple as saying that the offense failed to sustain drives .. there were times where the defense simply couldn't get off the field .. but the defensive side of the ball was capable of making adjustments as the game went on .. and at least gave the team a chance. -
