Winnipeg... Home to NHL mediocrity for 13 years.

True. Still, the jets have won more reg season games than any other Canadian team since their return in 2011. And none of those other squads have done much better in the playoffs. and when you add in the fact that Winnipeg is the least desirable market for free agents in the NHL… Well, it just helps to keep perspective.

Jets look tired. Helle can’t stand on his head every game. Jets just not playing jets hockey consistently

    “Every game”?

    🤔

helle .871 tonight. Definitely made a few great saves. But, so did the other guy. I don’t think he outplayed the other guy. And he has to for us to have a chance. He has to be the same guy he is in the regular season and he has just not been. The tying goal was right through his legs again.

and Ehlers? Outside of that overtime goal against Edmonton in 2021, he’s always been a meh playoff performer as well.
It’s really too bad. It’s all very disappointing.

So you hope Barron is a liability for 5 weeks? I don’t get the Connor comparison. Connor absolutely sucked when he came back. He’s playing great now. Actually back checking but don’t get the comparison

I understood his comment to mean he’s hoping that Barron can make a quick physical recovery ahead of his timeline, like Connor did. Not necessarily saying he wants him to play like Connor did when he returns. But I could be wrong?? 🙂

oops! I see someone already addressed this confusion and in a much more concise way than I! I would remove my comment but I don’t know how!

Jets need to stop paying Colorado’s back and forth game tho.

Yeah, except that it’s really just back. Very little forth. Was at the game tonight and we were getting dominated zone time. Really only evened out after the Avs got the two goal lead and sat back to defend. They have been better than us in both ends of the rink.

lol. Jets got dominated for 2 periods. It’s not just Helle.

Absolutely. Except that it was 50 min of getting dominated. And the tiring narrative around Helle, the “best goalie in the world” and “shoe in for the Vezina trophy” gets very aggravating when it doesn’t translate into playoff performance.

Like, it doesn’t really matter at all what you do in the regular season if you can’t back it up in the playoffs.

I’d probably sit Toffoli or Ehlers next game for Perfetti.

    Toffoli invisible. Slow.

  6. On the subject of retooling/rebuilding, obviously the GM plays a critical role. This brings me back to all the speculation recently swirling around Kyle W.

Here’s some further admittedly speculation/scuttlebutt. A good friend, who is not a BS type, and who knows a club insider told me a month ago that the Blue have soured on KW because he is not engaged in his job.

When I asked what that meant specifically, he said: “Like, literally, he’s never around and no one knows where he is.”

So, as I say, a rumour which was a downer for me and which I wasn’t sure what to make of, but now the lame duck status has me wondering if there isn’t something real there.

     We’ll soon know I guess.

You missed the key part at the end where he says he has so much respect for Osh for giving him that chance....

Actually I didn’t miss that part. I know that Osh’s players love him for that. I just don’t agree that that’s how a coach makes decisions about who gets to play.

Players love him for his loyalty and that’s why players want to come here and stay here. That’s a good thing.

But when that loyalty is dialled up too high it becomes too much of a good thing. Strength tips into excess. And this excess leads him to start 2 injured players who have no business being on the field. Two players who ultimately compromise our ability to win.

And that is not a good thing.

Finally, let me be absolutely crystal clear - I do NOT blame Dalton Schoen or Adam Bighill. Of course they want to play! It is the coach’s job, however, to balance that sense of loyalty with realism… To make those hard decisions that actually give us the best chance to win versus give him the greatest chance of being loved in the moment.

And I know O’Shea‘s philosophy is that ultimately his brand of loyalty pays off in the long run. But I think his practice and philosophy lacks balance and yesterday it cost us again.

Marine didnt help us...not one bit...But Fox..Haba...Rose...even an Ambles would have helped us

Yeah, so we’re playing a very obviously compromised Schoen over healthy options like O’Leary orange or Ambles.

Go read the Winnipeg free press today and look for the quote where Schoen  essentially says, “I can’t think of any other coach who would put someone who’s hurt in for a championship game after six weeks of no practice”.

    yeah, Dalton, neither can I.
