Gave em away during Covid didnt they?

Nope.  My son had to wait months for a retest.

When I took drivers ed, part of it was driving with an instructor and near the end of the course we did a "mock test" to get us ready. I'd imagine this will be similar. MPI isn't just handing out licenses. They still need to do the course and get through it. Part of that course is being on the road with an instructor. My actual test, taught me absolutely nothing.

That is literally the last stage of Driver Z.  Can't take it until you have something like 45 practise hours logged.

We have enough shitty drivers in this city so lets unleash a whole bunch who have not had their road test critiqued, it amazes me how quickly people forget basic rules of the road one they get their license, don't get me started with turn signals and merging versus yield.

On the other hand, my parents' generation paid $2 to get a license - no questions asked.  My classmates took their road tests in the metropolises of Ste. Rose du Lac and Winnipegosis.  City tests won't even take you through Portage & Main.  Graduated licensing will still be in place.

Mileage will vary (pun intended) depending on the kid.  I have no concerns with my daughter (who has gone through Driver Z) skipping the road test.  My son needed to be road tested for sure.

I never quite understand the CFL's board of governors. They seem overcautious and like to slough off responsibility on the Commissioner, even as they hog-tie him. And now, the new reality is that we live off TSN revenue, so they have a big silent paw in everything...

    1. So who really is in charge of the decision-making in our league?

    2. When we make up special rules to control Chris Jones having too many coaches, do we think about the subsequent consequences?

Yes the bean counters are trying to stay in control especially as attendance drops. But part of the reason attendance is dropping is the fan experience is not as good because high-quality coaching is no longer affordable. How many decision-makers have clarity on this?

    3. What can be fixed immediately is rules application in terms of roughing the passer. The NFL has fixed their problem. We have not. The quality of the game is totally dependent on having the best possible quarterbacks on the field. Why can't our powers-that-be understand that?

Almost every quarter back injury I can think of is mostly coming from aggressive linebackers and "careless" linemen. If our zebras would just constantly throw the flag that would help, a lot. To tickle the quarterback with a feather should be 15 yards, no questions asked and no appeal. Defensive players should be in control as if they were approaching the quarterback in practice wearing that red jersey.

Does that turn us into pansies? You think TSN would be more concerned about high-quality games than occasionally having a highlight reel full of nasty hits on the most important player on the field. We have turned around the big hits on unprotected receivers in the middle of the field. It was just a matter of will.

What should we think as fans? If there is one roughing the passer, make it a 25 yard penalty. If there is a second roughing the passer, make it an automatic game ejection. Add follow-up fines. If we do this we wouldn't be using third string quarterbacks so frequently. Is this worth the cost?

    4. Do we as fans use the power we have? I am not saying organize and revolt. I am saying that we don't even know we have power! Who wants to use it?

Then we might have a real Labor Day classic with both sides having a chance. I do not know anything about the Riders backups... This should be a real rivalry that would be if their starter was in. I love football and I want a lot more people feeling like I do about our fantastic  game!

  4. I think it's hilarious that anyone thinks people vote based on how much vandalism is done to election signs.  Every party is targeted.  The Alberta UCP seemed to have an organized force in some ridings to deface and remove signs and yet here we are.

PC voters tend to be middle class to the rich folks.   In the areas where their is less crime and higher incomes the people tend to frown upon any graffiti or crime or anything.    When they see PC ads vandalized it re-inforces their desire or wants for more police and cleaning up the city.    So yes it will re-inforce some who may be on the fence to vote for them.

I'm not sure if the NDP guy having a traitor thing spray painted will do much,  it probably also will reinforce people to vote PC because they push "being more harsh to criminals" even if it's all just talk.      In the end it just looks dumb and does nothing to help.

Used to be.  Now they're mostly the mis/disinformed.   Feel free to argue, but you'd have to answer for the PC's campaign messaging which is going directly after those votes.  Parental Rights, anyone?

need the M's to start dropping some games. Frig. Big win vs O's last night... need to string together a bunch like that.

Seattle's in their "soft part" of the sched, but full credit for the win streak.  At least Texas and Houston are fading and the Yanks are out of the picture.

Rejeanne Caron is the PC candidate on those bench ads. She stepped down from the Bear Clan three years ago, right before they voted to remove her. She's tweeted about how BLM is a terrorist organization, Blue Lives Matters, how there is no systemic racism with the WPS and argued that those who want to reduce police budgets should be banned from using emergency services.

She also lives in Oak Bluff so nowhere near the riding she hopes to represent.

I'd argue she's much uglier on the inside.

“Manitobans who saddle themselves with extreme debt can knock 4K off”
I’d expect this to be in the PC platform first.

The average price of a new EV is 80k.

I’d like to see the percentage of the driving population in MB that can actually afford a New or Used EV, either through a loan or out of pocket.

I've seen this figure and I believe it is misleading. From what I understand, they averaged out the cost of each model (high to low) and arrived at this number.  I have doubts that this is the average cost of what people are buying.

Hyundai Ionic6's are now under 35K in the U.S. and costs are going to keep dropping as GM ramps up their offerings post COVID.

Then why haven't we held Pelosi or McConnell accountable. Why have we not as a democracy decided that single handedly the most important law we need passed regarding elections is to take the money out. No campaign donations over 100 dollars. Why is this not discussed at all by the politicians.

It should all start right there. No more campaign donations in exchange for back room favours. This is an obvious and logical change. Why are we not livid about that?

Adam Schiff of the Democratic Party has introduced an amendment every year since 2013 to address the Republican Controlled Supreme Court's Citizen United ruling.

    But they're both equally bad.

What is your point? I already recognize that Russia has violated the terms of several agreements and treaties. I'm telling you I want people to stop getting killed. Tired of innocent 20 year Olds getting shipped off to die.

Whats the end game here? How long will this war go on? How many people have to die? It's easy to say continue on no matter what, when you don't have a gun in your hand and your home hasn't been blown up.

Has anyone in this group ever even visited Ukraine?

Name me a time when Russia wasn't shipping someone off to die or suffer - wartime or not.

Giving Putin what he wants will not make life better for any Ukrainians who prefer an independent Ukraine.

But he has also claimed he will balance the budget in their first term.   Would have to hope inflation subsides to put the tax back, otherwise that's an extra couple hundred million to balance.

Such an incredibly stupid idea for so many reasons.  Not enough for me to change votes, but I'm not the voter he's targeting with this - so I can see who's votes he's trying to buy here.

  10. Manitobans who buy electric vehicles would get rebate of up to $4K under NDP: Kinew

Manitoba's Opposition New Democrats are promising rebates for people who purchase electric vehicles.

NDP Leader Wab Kinew says if his party wins the election set for Oct. 3, it would offer a $4,000 rebate for new electric vehicles and a $2,500 rebate for used ones.

The federal government currently offers rebates of up to $5,000, depending on the type of vehicle, and some provinces have already adopted similar rebates.

Kinew says an NDP government would also sign on to a federal commitment to protect 30 per cent of land and ocean by 2030. He says Manitoba currently has about 11 per cent of its land and water in protected status, and accuses the Progressive Conservative government of dragging its feet on the issue.

The NDP is also promising to restore funding to nine environmental organizations, such as the Manitoba Eco-Network, that was cut in 2020.

If it was all about doing the right thing and morality then every forest and every lake would have to be searched and that would cost billions of dollars.   At some point you have to be fiscally responsible.

People would be shocked to find out how many people are missing/kidnapped/murdered around the province every year.

I remember going to Cross Lake 5 or so years ago and they were having issues with missing teens and were losing several every month with many of them going missing and commiting suicide and the reserve having no idea because the area is considerably remote and with all the surrounding water bodies can transport anywhere.  It is a needle in a haystack with finding anyone if they are in the wilderness.

The difference being of course that they have a pretty good idea where the landfill bodies are.  Heads should roll at Winnipeg Police for not conducting a search as soon as they knew.

Oh - and what does your Cross Lake anecdote have in common with the landfill issue?  Thanks for making our point.
