Or Buono as the new Commish . . .

    Wouldn’t say no to that.

any one worth a damn would be nice in the short term. Long term though yeah. Some one who could do the job for 10+ years would be great.

id make that sacrifice for the league. I’m not sure if wade would want it though.

This. Needs to be someone in their mid 40s with some football and business experience.

Did cohon didn’t come with football experience. I’d be really open, we could take a sports business guy like him, or say victor cui, and pair him with a guy like Buono for a few years to bring them a long.

It’s been no secret that I’m but on cui, hed for sure be on my short list. A long with wade, pinball (out side of all this Kelly stuff) would be good. a huge sleeper pick he probably wouldn’t want it and no one out side of the bomber fan base would think it, but Doug brown would be a fantastic guy to groom for it. I could see Austin being in the mix, and huffer too.

If it's true that the commish is dismissive of this and not taking it seriously, then I might just be joining the bandwagon calling for his head. That's inexcusable and good on the women who quit over it.

I wonder if this could be the final nail in his coffin sure as hell should be. The hypocrisy of the league trying to be progressive and inclusive plus coming down harder than before on creeps then acting like this is insane. Unless the league has some kind of hard evidence that this is all fabricated, wagons should start circling.

maybe the league could hire Buono to source and investigate candidates for a new comish lol

Don't get the soccer love either....boring as all heck...like living in Sask...and the images of guys flopping to the ground like a sniper drilled them from the nose bleeds is more than I can stomach...only reason it's considered most pop sport in world is because it's the cheapest to play and costs are minimal...hard pass for me

It’s like the worst parts of basketball and track combined with all the fun of watching paint dry, with the worst time keeping in history.
If kids are playing it that’s great, sports give a lot to those who play it. It’s a decent sport for cross training. But I can’t understand people who enjoy it.

Good for the gappers making a nice profit. They’re gonna need that money if they aren’t a play off team (and I don’t think they will be). The worm has turned in Regina and people will be as happy to see oday fired as they would be to win a bjb. More and more the sea of green is turning into browns fans with paper bags. Apathy is the most dangerous thing for a sports team. This generation has seen the riders win and it has no novelty any more. They aren’t gonna keep coming out to watch a crap team.

All the combine testing does is show who is serious about moving to the next level.

If you're an OL walking into a combine where you can't do 20 reps of 225....you're showing that you're not willing (or able) to do the work to be a pro.  Now if you have tremendous film you'll probably get a chance to prove that wrong.  If the film is meh, the testing is meh, the on field stuff is meh, you're done.

True. Especially since guys have started training to excel in just the tests.

I am not just guessing here, I do know how it works. Not every single college team has a pro day, and many schools host combined pro days. It's VERY rare for D-II or lower programs to host their own pro day.

EVERY SINGLE pro day that a college hosts is run by the NFL team that is nearest to them. Even a tiny, small school pro day at a D-II would be run by at least 1 NFL scout from the designated team in that area.

Draft Scout dot com is THE SOURCE for all of the other websites that post pro day numbers. RAS and all the other publicly available metrics openly state that they get their numbers from Draft Scout because it's the only reliable public forum that gets pro day info straight from the NFL.

There is no such thing as an "official" time at a pro day because those numbers are hand-timed by NFL scouts. The only "official" times come from the NFL Combine. Any other "Pro days" or "Combines" that are not hosted by colleges with NFL scouts timing, excluding the CFL Combine, are not legitimate and would not be posted on a site like Draft Scout.

    Hope this was helpful!

Some of that has been true in the past, and d2/3 have a combined combine day, however even most of those schools and colleges specially the d1 no longer allow grouping of out side players. This has been the case for almost 15 years now. More d2/3 schools have the pro days now that you’d think.

Ds is not the source, they draw their nfl prospect numbers from the nfl. They take fringe players numbers from all kinds of sources. That why you’ll see huge variances on some guys testing numbers and edits.

Ras ras also brings all kinds of spurious numbers in. And you can enter data and entrees.
Hand times are not reliable. even amongst those with amazing reflexes and expert level execution. I’ve personally seen manual times of professionals range from sub 4.2 to high 4.3 on the same pass. Guys who have never broken 4.5 suddenly running low 4.3s. Doesn’t matter who is timing it when it’s manual.

Few things: Draft Scout is THE real reliable source for pro day numbers. They get it straight from NFL scouts. Anything posted anywhere else that is claiming different information is incorrect. Sometimes even the schools that post results on twitter will get it wrong because they use their own times but draft scout has the real info.

Also, every single pro day vertical is run by NFL scouts and the players are not allowed to take a step or even wiggle their feet before the jump. They get two opportunities to jump from a standstill position and the best number of those two is marked down.

Agree with you that vertical and broad jump, which are measures of lower body explosiveness, are more translatable to success in the trenches than 40-time!!!

NFL draft page is the reliable page. Ds isn’t, unless it’s a draft prospect. They default to claimed times and don’t indicated official verifiable times.

At big schools sure. But not at average schools. Do you know how many medium and small schools have a pro day each year? You’re talking north of 360 just in d1, at the same time of year. On top of that some atheltes and groups run their own pro days. You’d be stunned how many actually happen each year, we’re talking north of 500. Some juco, hs, and bush leagues even run pro day type events, though often aimed at d1 schools. Some of the position, and athletic testing/training camps have been doing them as well.
I heard a horror story of an arena league team doing a combine at their try out day where they used yard sticks and foot over foot methods and a cell phone to time sprints.
Lots of schools will gas up their major young guys tell them they ran or jumped some thing crazy in spring too.

I don’t love a lot of the sprints, it’s hard to get an idea of a runner based on 10 20 40 times. The 40 was invented to only test guys for their ability to cover punts. Then later used for WRs to measure deep routes.
The broad and vert aren’t as mechanically demanding as high and triple jumps. If any thing I’d love to see a time measurement added to broad and verts, as well as vert splits for no step 1 step 2 step and runway vert. The nba has long separated guys ability to jump with no gather Vs steps. Football could really learn from that.

yeah, and I think that’s always a concern when you’re looking at kids who fall to junior college for any reason. But I think it’s also super easy to weed (lol) those guys out in a single conversation.

Really interesting break down of the star recruit system and a bit of the positional scouting anomalies. It’s interesting to compare to how we scout and what attributes we prize at different positions as well.

    actually haba ran 4.69 Celestin Haba - OLB - Texas AM-Commerce - 2023 Draft Scout/NCAA College Football

I'd love to see them sign Kongbo as well

Not a terrible reliable source though, they post claimed numbers. They are good at updating nfl combine prospects but not none invites. Si has his official time at 4.9.
They also have his claimed fast time incorrect.

    56 minutes ago, bluedawg said:

Celestin Haba is a super legit athlete. 37.5-inch vertical jump for a defensive end is really really good. I think Chauncey Rivers will be good competition for him with that NFL experience. That's an exciting addition I hope we can get one or two more studs signed on the defensive line

Vert is a better success indicator than 40 for de, broad even better. Problem is many schools for pro days do max vert and list as vert instead of no step.

Idc about the weed what so ever. More worrisome when a guy red shirts for academic reasons to me. If you can’t find and stick to the mail it in courses in football schools that’s scary. Though even that I think is over rated. I hate the ncaa development system for sports. It’s soo broken and out of place it’s not even funny.

he looks to be stronger than Haba, but slower as well. Maybe he loses a bit of weight  to help.

Habba ran a 4.9 pro day as well but at 240. Some guys don’t translate to track speed just like some track fast guys don’t translate to the field (Barrett the lber last year is a good example) he’s also more quick with an explosive first step like Habba.
Idk if his quickness will be still be quick enough for the cfl. But if it is he could be a real gem. Habbas certainly does. He’s also got decent comparisons to jeffcoat, but JJ was faster and way more polished. Imp version of kongbo but with character issues. Though kongbo had run better 40s in the past. I think he tested post injury 4.8 but had run low 4.6 at some point. But college unofficial times are real suspect.

can we sign kongbo too please? Some very interesting names still floating as fas.

I'm no fancy big city lawyer...

Asking a coworker out is not harassment. Repeatedly asking out a coworker out even though they turn you down every time probably wouldn't even qualify without more aggravating factors. It's the "reacting violently" (I assume throwing things or smacking tables, slamming doors, physical intimidation like blocking halls and doorways, that sort of thing... not direct personal violence) and cussing her out in front of other employees/teammates that makes for a hostile work environment and constitutes harassment imo. Should have been handled by the bosses when she came forward to exercise her rights, they could have handled things internally and we never would have heard these accusations. Instead they tried to sweep it under the rug and possibly even retaliated against her by telling her to stay home and then not renewing her contract after years of doing so. AFAIK the Argos weren't obligated to renew her contract but it sure smells like retaliation if up until that point there was no reason to let her walk... if anyone should be looking over his shoulder it's John Murphy and anyone else that knowingly infringed on this woman's right to a harassment-free workplace. Section 7 of the Ontario human rights code is pretty clear and easy to understand. These aren't the old days, people have rights in the workplace and they should be taken seriously, and employers should be held accountable when they infringe upon them, knowingly or not (because they should have known if they didn't)

I read the first sentence as images of matlock immediately sprung to mind lol.

If weed wasn’t the issue that it is in some states and the ncaa, he would’ve stuck at Georgia and probably been a mid to late draft pick.

Bringing in guys mid-season, after not really scouting that position much because we had Grant, is likely what led to lacklustre results trying to replace him in season. IF, and it's still a big IF, the Bombers have made the decision to move on from Grant I would expect that our scouting department was looking a heckuva lot harder at finding a great returner this offseason than when we had the comfort of knowing we had Grant. That being said, if a guy like Lucky or another vet returner wants to come here on the cheap and compete in camp that would be a best case scenario.

That would be a much stronger point, if we hadn’t seen a string of awful returnmen before grant as well. We frequently bring in dbs with return man experience as well. Our prototype db is athletic play makers. Same with RBs.

I hope we haven’t moved on from grant but it sure seems like it.

Another benefit is lucky is a fifo guy. Kr in the cfl is as much about execution as talent and dynamic play making. If we have a high upside guy who is translating that to the field here in camp and pre season, a guy like lucky can help coach them up. Maybe ease them into full time duty.

Walters: Do you know how many different positions you could convert him to?

    Jones:  giphy.gif

Jones: You got yourself a deal!

Damn you’re right. Could’ve played every position for jones!

  19. With Chris jones being Chris jones and us having 3 picks in the top 20, I wonder if either side would entertain a trade?
Dublanko would be a great fit for us and could learn under and beside biggie. Instead of having to be an immediate starter he could be a heavy rotation guy which could allow us to get more games out of biggie and kyrie. Jones would probably want a pick or two and an imp player but I think we could make a decent trade for both sides.
I’d also be interested in moving up to another spot if it meant we got to lock in our pick of Dumoulin Duguay, una, and hergel.

If the bombers take a fullback with 1 of their first let’s say 1 of the first 3 picks they have, they have lost the plot.

I’d be surprised if they did too. Only way I see it is if it’s a fb with another position. A rb, a te type who can play wr etc.  and I don’t think we will even do that.

To me, it would make a lot of sense to bring back Konnor burtenshaw, and Daniel petermann. Pete is 28 and a fa. Then spend late picks on another wr and maybe fb to bring into camp. Cole Adamson was being moved to ol, but he’s undersized and pretty athletic. If he could execute fb stuff that’d be an easy way to get a spare ol on the roster with out losing out.  Any athletic undersized lineman would be a decent candidate to fill that roster spot.
