One aspect of things I was thinking about while listening to the Big Show guys this morning is team unity.  They played a clip of Maurice last night saying the guys love being around each other and it's something I've heard other commentators say repeatedly, that the team clearly gets along on and off the ice.  You see a level of battle and fight and support for each other every game.  And the hand shaking is another example of this.  Jeff O'Neil called it "shaking hands like men".

Is this the normal by-product of a long and hard fought season or can we trace some of this unity to the big trade?  Not only the talent that came back (and I question whether we'd be in this position fighting for a spot without Myers and Stafford) and not only that they have both seemingly fit in so well, but in being rid of Kane.  I know he was close to some members of the team but the team now seems more tight knit than ever.

Only way we really control our fate is to continue to rack up wins; the team needs to take care of their business and not leave it in the hands of others.

You need two A level D to win a cup in this league. Myers and Trouba can be those two. Then need really solid 4 guys around them Buff Stuart Chiroit and Enstrom is a pretty good solid 4.

I thought you were done with this thread?

When there are only 30 starting goaltenders in the league, League average is pretty much upper end.  Funny how when someone can't win an argument they need to pull the "moderator" card like it is an abuse of powers to have an open debate on these forums.   Maybe because we run the site we shouldn't post on it.

Replace my post of "legit upper end starting goalie" with "average starting goalie" and it comes out to the same thing.  But you still ignore all the other arguments I've made.   Why do you think no one even drafts goalies in the first round anymore.  They are so hit and miss with different systems, grooming, getting their shot at the right time, etc, that it is the one position that is near impossible to predict, unless you are getting one of the upper echelon proven goalies.

Buying out Pavelec until there is a viable replacement that is a clear upgrade is not an option.  Teams with proven goalies aren't going to trade them because then they will be in the exact same position the Jets are in now.    But you don't want to hear that.  You want to just get rid of Pavelec and assume there *must* be a deal to get a better goalie out there.

Everything we are going thu as bad as it seems is also something the kids like Schief, Trouba, Lowry, Myers and others are going to learn from. Even guys like Little and Wheels are going to learn from this pressure of how every game means.

Sure Ladd n Buff have been thru this but they cant drag a whole team and teach them.

Ill be disappointed if we dont get in but ill be ok with the young guys that stepped up and will learn.

Our future is going to depend on these younger players and them going thru these things now is huge for the development of the team.

As we bring guys up... We will have more players that have gone thru things for them to lean on and learn from.

Took teams like the Hawks, LA  6-7-8 years to learn how to win these types of games and get that killer instinct....  We are in year 4 and need time to learn these things.

We are a better then avg team thats still got aways to go before we learn what it takes to be champs. There is no doubt we can play and beat any team in the league, its just going to take some time.

They can, through the flight data recorder and voice recorders, "see" exactly what the pilot is doing or not doing as the case may be.  Do you honestly think that looking at the pilot's face as he's doing something is going to provide that "aha" moment?  "See that sardonic smile he has when he turns off the autopilot?  Clearly he has murder on his mind..."  or "Hey, the video shows that he really did forget to lower the wheels.  I know that we had no voice confirmation that the wheels were down and that the flight data recorder shows that they were never lowered but with this video, now we know!" or  "Oh hey, look, he picked his nose right before it happened.  We'll need the FAA to immediately ban nose picking in the cockpit."

Honestly, if some in the NTSB want them, if seems that they can't really justify them or they would already be there.  The FAA doesn't fool around with safety stuff.

    (CNN)Latest developments:
    • 5:32 p.m. ET: Transponder data shows that the autopilot on Germanwings Flight 9525 was reprogrammed by someone in the cockpit to change the plane's altitude from 38,000 feet to 100 feet, according to Flightradar24, a website that tracks aviation data.
    • 5:14 p.m. ET: Police searched Germanwings Flight 9525 co-pilot Andreas Lubitz's apartment in Dusseldorf, Germany, on Thursday, the city's police spokesman said in televised comments. A team of five investigators went "through the apartment looking for clues as to what the co-pilot's motivation might have been, if he did indeed bring the plane down," police spokesman Markus Niesczery said.

I'm all for giving investigators tools, but maybe it would be a better idea to have them tell us what they think would be useful and I don't think I've read or heard of the FAA or any other agency saying that they need to be put into place ASAP.  If they decide to use armchair investigators, then clearly, it's got to be cameras, lots and lots of cameras, and backup cameras for the main cameras, oh and body cameras too, one for each person.  Can never have enough video...

And the point of the camera would be what exactly?  It's not going to prevent anything from happening and it doesn't appear that the investigators are having too much trouble figuring things out using just the voice recorder and later when they confirm it with the flight data recorder.. Again, if someone's going to do this, all the pictures in the world will not change anything.  Personally, I think that watching the last moments of terror before someone dies are something that no one should have to do unless there's a real good reason to have to do it.  Don't see that reason here.

What would be useful is being able to track aircraft the are outside radar coverage so we never have to have another Korean Air Flight 902 or Air France Flight 447

The reality is that if a pilot or co-pilot wants to do something like this, there is pretty much no way to stop it.  That's life sadly.  We want to believe that we can prevent stuff from happening, but a lot of the time, we just can't.  The illusion of control...

EgyptAir Flight 990 had this happen.  Both pilots were at the controls.  Captain commanding nose up and co-pilot commanding nose down causing a split elevator condition that downed the craft.  How does one prevent a pilot who's determined to crash a plane from doing so?

    Just a horrible development.

I can't help but think of MH370 and one of the theories being an intentional act by a flight crew member.  It was considered a long shot because it's a rare thing but maybe not so much.
