If Letang and Dupuis have healthy careers, this is a different team... but they didn't.

Crosby's contract started it but Rutherford is destroying whats left of this team though...

Neal for Hornqvist...  salary dump the guy who had the best chemistry with Malkin...

Ever since then they've been trying to replace that... now they are stuck with Perron and Kessel, still up against the cap.

Theyve always tried to put score the rest of the league, desperately looking for elite wingers for their centres. Trades away prospects. Traded away picks. If they had more patience years ago they could hve reloaded by now.

They can stay on this path and probably always make the playoffs and then you never know. But if they want to reload for a cup run with Crosby they need to trade Malkin.

Malkin and conditional pick for RNH and Nikitin.. callin it

Doubt Malkin waives for Edmonton. Plus Nikitin doesn't really help Pitt. It would have to be Schultz or someone else like that. Plus i think Pitt is so close to the cap that the cash coming back from  trading Malkin would have to be equal or less than what Malkin is paid. Not sure RNH at 6 million and Nikitin at 4.5 million is worth it for them.

I'm looking at Nashville and I see a need for a top line center and i see a ton of D men on Nashville, I think those 2 teams are a match.

Pittsburgh would want RNH and Nurse for Malkin, plus like Goalie said Malkin does not wave NMC for Edmonton or any Canadian team for that matter

Why is Edmonton interested in Malkin when they already have McJesus, RNH and Draisailt who is currently ripping the league a new *******?

The Pens problems are simple really, their defense isn't good enough. Letang is their best and he's A) one dimensional and B) not healthy. After that they're hoping for a bunch of rookies to develop.

What do they have that can shake lose 2-3 good D-men?  They are up against the cap and cant just sign free agents.  They must part with some forward talent and guys like Kunitz arent going to garner a ton of interest.

I doubt they will trade Crosby or Malkin.  They'll probably trade a forward prospect and try to unload Kunitz and get someone good on D in return.  But it wont work.  They really need to commit to a re-load, if not a rebuild.

Pens will find some cap space soon. Perron is pending UFA and will either move on or re-sign for less. Scuderi has to be a buyout candidate. Kunitz too if they can't trade him. Dupuis is retired. That's a lot of cap space in those four guys.

Thats very true.  But they will likely sign another high priced free agent forward!  Actually Ladd would be a good signing for them

Ladd & Buff would both be great fits for the Pens. Buff fills a lot of needs for them.

"...The Winnipeg Jets are facing more than $152 million worth of future contract demands from three key players who are in expiring years of their contracts.

League and player sources have confirmed that Jets captain Andrew Ladd has asked for a six-year deal worth at least $41 million, that defenceman Dustin Byfuglien has requested $55 million over eight years and that defenceman Jacob Trouba wants more than $56 million over the maximum eight years allowed in the league’s CBA with its players...."

Buff's ask is the most reasonable. I would never give Ladd $7M per.

Ladd: $6.83  6 Years

Buff: $6.9  8 Years

Trouba: $7  8  years

Trouba is kidding himself.  He's an RFA on an expiring rookie deal.  If he really thinks that he is in for a rude awakening.  Although he could be ripe for an offer sheet from a team willing to go all in (but only 7 years).

Wouldnt pay Buff for that lone.  Would consider the same money over 4-5 years.

Ladd is about $1M per year too much but the right term.

Swap out Ladd and Buff with their asks and you've got a deal.

But if these are firm, then both ladd and Buff are gone.  Trouba takes a bridge deal in the 2-3 year range and then signs for 8 years.  How much of Trouba's Free Agency would 8 years right now buy?
