Bombers @ Not-So-LOLks: The GDT

Elks are not so LOLks as they once were... But I still believe they're overrated. They go as Justin Rankin goes. I do believe they're beatable.

Having said that, I don't think the Bombers are necessarily a very good team. We've sadly shown that too many times so far this season.

But, as always, I live on a hope and a prayer... For two points our way, no matter how it looks. Just find a way to win.

Our problem was Oshs insistence and influence to ride guys to dust..and not know when to let go

We missed out on a lot of FA who could prob still been here cause we hung onto guys too long

It aged and degraded us substantially with a whole core of guys instead of a guy here and there if done right. Plus the fact he seems to have no inclination to play young guys or new guys to gain valuable experience..or essentially win a job and then when we have injuries we screwed cause we either dont trust a guy so play a sub 100 percent player..or are forced to play someone who is hampered from no play time..or just dont know what we have cause he would rather roster his favs who are garbage. We seeing that with dbs and receivers this yr...DL for multiple yrs...and LB's too..took 3 yrs for him to realize Griffin was our best option...and if not for his injury Smith prob still be used sparingly

Why leave Alexander to work with Collaros or Brown? Plus he's been in Montreal nearly 30 years by now.

That's not the thought process of these guys. calvillo will either either want to be in charge & therefore have to go to an inferior team looking to change fortunes or stay with the Als & be comfortable. Never be in charge. Never make HC's money. Never knowing if he could be a championship head coach. The egos of these coaches is generally pretty big.

Give it to Strev to finish out the yr...guys would follow him and go thru anything for him...and im not even kidding

Plus he is a brilliant mind...he would get the most outta his guys...ive seen him coach first hand.

He pulls it off ...reup him

He wants a career in broadcasting. Looks like he'll get the chance with DAZN.

Not that I completely disagree but Walters has … mostly done his job even if I don’t like his approach or philosophy. He’s had his fair share of whiffs but there are some talent issues I can’t even lay at his door until these guys even get a chance to play.

Not that I completely disagree....actually I do. There is no hidden all stars on our bench, all our all stars were allowed to leave town already.

I am sure glad that all these guys were on lifetime contacts and the GM had no say whatsoever. Crock of bull laying an aging roster at the feet of the coach. GM decides that. It's his job.

I bet Smith becomes a all-star and a top Canadian defender...he was mired there. Who knows who else could be if you dont try them?

Thats the issue...cant evaluate a guy on the PR or running up and down on ST 5 times a game

And practice wont do it either...you will see work ethic and thats about it

If a guy is still lost in the playbook, makes same errors over and over or just for lack of a better word sucks in technical aspects of his game...why we keeping them?,,,If the HC cuts them pretty sure the GM would restock the PR..

WHAT??...The HC decides who stays and who goes...not the G.M...Who built the PR...The roster...and picks the game day product?....Not the G.M

If a HC says to his G.M based on my evaluation this guy...that guy....those 2 over there are all keepers so retain them please....I dont like that FA...or that one...Dont fit my vision and i dont like the skill set...my group of old decaying guys are better...should he not trust in him?....Or should he meddle and doubt his assesment....foster doubt in other coaches and players...demand ho plays...And become the Ott Rouhriders of the Glieberman era? A true disfunctional outhouse?

Baloney, and you know it. The HC has limited input into who comes into camp, or at least that is the way it's supposed to work. He gives his wish list to the GM, and the GM does his work within the confines of the SMS to bring in/bring back as much as he can. No coach refuses talent add and to suggest otherwise is insulting everyone's intelligence here. This notion that MOS has some kind of "we good" power over Walters just illustrates, if true, even more reason why Walters should be canned first.

I coached for a long time at various levels of football, even did guest coaching gigs at TCs at Div 1 and CIS schools. I have NEVER met a HC who says "we good" in the offseason, never met a coach whose wish list wasn't way bigger than a GM could ever accomplish, and it would be 100% against any coaches DNA to ever refuse talent when offered. Any coach who would most definitely would never attain employment or consideration at a pro level. THAT'S FACT. You may have played the game Booch but you don't know **** from shinola about coaching it.

Don't need to be all-stars to improve things. A Journey of 1000 miles begins with a single step.

Smith and Woodbey have the makings of a solid future linebacking group. Is Shay a flop ??? Any value there?

Reese. Jaworski (limited reps last year) ceresna. Willie. Gat. Maybe Jenkins or Dixon and Lawson is a solid DL group.

DBs need work.

@GCn20 except that we can see it right in front of us: retaining Stanley Bryant, Jake Thomas, Kolankowski, et. al. The HC may not directly refuse talent, but actions speak louder than words.

Who offers the contract? Who gets them to sign it. I have not met many coaches who will put a warrior down, it is almost exclusively the job of the GM to not offer new contracts when a player expires. It is not only his job it is necessary so that the coach can save face with the dressing room. Somewhere along the line a lot of people here have given Walters a free pass for not having the wherewithal to do a big part of the job he is paid to do. Go around the league and ask any HC if he doesn't want a vet in camp and you will not get many no's from any of them.

Unless you are suggesting that Stanley, Jake, and Kolanowski lost their game in season but should not have been played after? In which case I will ask you who was their better on our roster? Lawson was down, that left Fatboi or Korny....hate to say it but Fatboi was the better choice. Stanley hasn't been near as bad as ppl here are making out, but the game he did miss Vanterpool absolutely sucked, and we have seen how bad Eli is at centre. So again I will ask, how many of these roster choices are due to there being even less talent behind them and that is a GMing problem.

Shay hasn't gotten a sniff of playing D, and even in pre-season was limited in reps. Hard to say what we have there.

Woodbey still isn't back to where he was last year but I hope he gets back to that level and continues growing.

you are truly delusional or brainwashed...or just hate Walters and cant find it in you to see osh is the impedement

And just because in your experience you havnt seen it, means it is 100 percent not happening here....from all the evidence...someone is thinking it. And maybe Osh has flawed DNA...Look who he dresses and plays. You just have a blind belied in what you assume...and that any different opinion from you is just none sense...when is the last time you did any significant work with all this apparent experience...times change...And from someone who dosent know me from a hole in the ground that's pretty incredible that you can make that claim...attack when challenged...Mature, and if that's your personality I can see why such a staunch Osh defender as thats what he does

Is it okay for me to say you have never played the game at any real level of any distinction, so dont know head from arse?...and work at a CIS camp as a guest is hardly impressive??...I could have many posts ago as you attack my opinions...and as I dont know you from spit so saying such a thing would be...well stupid

and BTW mr knowmesowell....I have coached...still do...recruited...trained (strength and condition/combine prep) at and with NCAA programs and JUCO schools...with Graduates and current players, as well as worked with too many to mention players in the CFL and NFL...I also have helped with PPI Recruits....thats Brandon Colliers work with football Europe if you dont know what that is. So pretty sure I have more than enough of a grasp of shinola...and have prob seen and dealt with more sh1t than you have had hot meals

I think that speaks more to the overall dysfunction in the organization - that the GM either agrees with these decisions by the HC, or let's the HC have more control over these types of decisions. It's not meddling in any pro sport for a GM to have significant input into not only finding talent, but which talent stays and goes, it's their job! Coaches - thanks for your input, but your job is to coach the talent given to them. Fans here forget that in every pro sport GM's hire and fire HC's. The dysfunction here is the Canadian mafia seems to forget that and operate like some kind of kumbaya collective.

who has no ability or sense to then cut them??...oh yeah eh? if he did then logic would say new guys brought in...no?...Or would the G.M just run with a non complete roster?...play with 40 guys?

He loses a lot of face...and has...and you can see it now with playing guys over obviously better ones too..favoritism is the quickest way to destroy a lockeroom

Irony thy name is Booch.

Woodbey doesn't move or process quick enough to fill any roles they've tried him in yet.

Put him down at contain end and maybe he'll be ok.

Otherwise put someone out there who might make a play.

So many chances 1 on 1 with Rankin last week and Woodbey lost all of them. Never gets to the ball in coverage.

The fly in the ointment and what you consistently fail to recognize, is that cutting guys after signing them their signing bonuses still count towards the cap. Therefore, you must have an in house replacement ready to go. The guys we rode too hard is because of three things, one is that we have nothing ready behind them that is worth a crap, and two you can't cut vets after game 8 without paying their season salary, and three in cases like Stan a big part of their salary is paid already up front and counts to the cap. There is more to cutting guys than just cutting them. You have to have replacements, and you have to have money for replacements. I know you think you know things but your math has never been your strong point and that is where your arguments legs start to quiver. If we could just carte blanche cut guys I would agree but when you are eating a ton of salary to make it happen it also becomes a business decision.

Honestly I am less concerned with letting a guy like Bryant go out on his own terms vs how long we hold guys on PR and on roster who do NOTHING and become NOTHING in this league....Woodbey right now is a good example.

We've had a bunch of guys we've held onto for 2-3-4 years at the bottom of roster/PR who suck.

Jamal Parker, Devin Adams, Eric Lofton, Kody Case, Marquise Bridges, Vanterpool, Garbutt, Haba, Drew Richmond, Carlton Agudosi, Lucky Ogbevoen and Fab Weitz to name a few.

We've almost never used the Global spot beyond the punter. Tons of guys that a good rotational DL out there that qualify....lots of guys that would be fine as 6th-7th OL and free up another spot. Give you actual cover for a Canadian spot. We just hold guys on PR that never play.

You think a guy who sits on the bench/PR all year and watch Cobb or any number of other less talented players or even just guys who don't get the job done will want to re-sign with team? You can blame Walters, but again...signing players is a two way street. The players have to want to be here too. And if they feel like they won't get the chance to prove themselves because of a head coach....why would they stay?

I'm over the Woodbey experiment. That missed tackle against Rankin was god awful and honestly pathetic. He's a back-up and likely a solid ST. But no way I'd want him starting anymore.

new guys brought in have no bonus....and some the vets who have one...well guess that needs to be re thunk in doling out big ones for old vets......and yeah there is a vet cut deadline....hence things that were apparent by game 5..6 latest should have been already dealt with

No team as well goes into the season with zero available equity left...for things just like this...or injury...etc...you can also 6 game em...there many ways to skin a cat...a lot of our garbage as well I am sure dont come with huge bonuses...A BO...ZC...Demski...WJ...Vet Olineman sure...but we arent wanting to shed any of those with a outright cut. We can easily roster guys in house who all have been accounted for already for someone else...You cant assume they are no better just because osh isnt playing them

Removing and replacing a Cobb...Moxy...Wilson/jones...Kelly...Hazen...Elsbury...Daniels...with anyone already here wont upset any SMS

I glad youschooled me in the fact there is a SMS and players cost money...I just figured you could do whatever u want...SMH

I know there is a cap, and it all counts. Other teams cut vets for new younger guys...they make it work/happen
