Heard yesterday morning out of Regina a Rider player had been in a wreck and that it was likely the Rider players fault, didn't know who until afternoon. Then a lot of locals went off on a "brown guy

I heard about that yesterday. For those who don't want to watch, he's basically saying that the changes to the field (uprights, size, etc) are going to cost too much and every team except Winnipeg is losing money... So there is no appetite to shell out and make those changes.

He makes it sound like much more of an insider tip than it is; it's more of a not-so-hot hot take.

What he gets right,

They should've consulted coaches closely long before finalizing changes.

This should've involved lower levels, and if it happened as announced, it would really screw a lot of teams and cause a lot of problems and work.

I'm not a traditionalist; I believe in pursuing improvements in the game/league. If it makes the game and league better, it should change. That said, a big chunk of these changes don't stand a chance at improving anything.

Where he is wrong,

DAZN money will start next year. Carrier change deals like this always come with up-front cash. Now teams may want to pay off some debt and actually post a positive year for once before having to spend on these changes, but they've already locked the changes in before the deal was agreed to. Meaning they had a plan to pay for it aside from this cash winfall.

The bombers don't have to rely on rider fans for sell-outs; the riders do have to rely on us. They jumped ship fast when we passed them in 19; that isn't loyal.

Tradition isn't important at the cost of survival, and 1 team making a profit isn't sustainable. The league does badly need to build in a younger fan base. The problem is these changes won't do that, and it is much more of a team problem and a broadcaster problem.

No way it happens? I guarantee some of the changes will go through at least. They made too big a deal out of it and have too much on the line with DAZN to just peel it all back.

-You can bet the playoff format will happen. That is just free money for the teams and league.

-The change of benches being on opposite ends should've always been the case.

-55 yard line staying wouldn't be hard to change much. This was a silly change.

-End zone depth goes hand in hand with field goals at the back. But they also work against each other. The impact of a smaller endzone will be far greater than moving the uprights.

-Moving the season up, this is just bad business. More overlap with the NHL and NBA playoffs is bad. TC in freezing weather is bad. Having the end and beginning of the season in bad weather is a terrible idea.

This whole deal doesn't feel like the CFL's goal. It feels like the first hard step towards the goal. I think that goal is a soft merger with the XFL. (AL vs NL in baseball back in the day style)

If the league keeps the 55 yard line, they don't have to do nearly as much with the end zone. Move the upright for each game, but you can have the new small end zone with a 2nd line for the old larger one.

There are words, but not the equal of racial epithets thatve been used on subjugated minorities. Honky has meaning to some one i’m sure, but it doesn’t have any power to make people feel maligned. Many of the white derogatory terms come from other white people.

We’ve both been to places in the southern us where you palpably feel the difference. We have the awareness and diverse experience to recognize it. But we’ll never know how that feels for the other side. Even in places where we are not welcome or out of place for racial reasons. The experience of growing up in that, and it being over top of you and all like you for generations with countless atrocities under its belt, just isn’t understandable from the outside side. Similarly, attempts to replicate it just aren’t the same.

The word Eskimo was one that the Dene people used to describe Inuit people. It was absolutely derogatory, as Dene and Inuit were almost always at war with each other. A friend of mine from Rankin Inlet told me that calling his people Eskimo is the equivalent to a white slave owner calling a black person the N word. That being said he also said that the term is really only offensive to him if it comes from a Dene person.

I havent heard any talk of USports changing their field sizes so that would mean 4 CFL stadiums would need to continually change between the 2 field sizes.

Because of this, I see the 55 yard line staying but see the endzones being reduced to 15 yards.

They have to figure out what to do with Toronto as they will have even less room to work with after the World Cup renovations.

Do they want to have teams continue to play with different size endzones after making a big stink about it?

So the rumour be that the fields will stay the same? But reduce the end zones? Goal posts moving??? Cuz that’s a big one for me. I like missed FG returns. They are exciting. Eliminating exciting isn’t gonna help draw ppl.

Toronto should be sold to someone else and just put up temp stands in a field somewhere like BC did, 20k maybe near the lake. Maybe somewhere else another year. Who knows. But there’s lots of fields and temporary stands. CFL should buy the Argos really for 1 ******* dollar cuz **** MLSE.

Jon Gruden got a gift ftom the CFL & he's fired up!!!!!! DAZN needs to get him & Matt Dunigan as their analists next season!

Sure, but literally looking at the numbers what I posted is accurate.

It cost them more to travel for a playoff game and Grey Cup than the revenue they earned from hosting a playoff game.

That's a league issue, unfortunately. They would have spent a lot of money on GC rings.

There's a 0% chance amateur football will change field dimensions.

It costs millions of dollars for turf fields. Some of these have just been replaced and will live for 15-20 years. It costs tens and tens of thousands to move/replace uprights.

This would only happen over decades as fields are replaced.

There's also zero benefit to the field dimension changes. The football people around the table know this. Just turning a lot of FG's into punts.

His logic is terrible. The real reason should be "the decision was made to do this to increase scoring, but scoring is up right now, so they should vote to delay another year or two to study".

I mean cool but when the fook did Winnipeg need a telethon to save the bombers?

I read a good take by a Regina city councilor the other day about why that city is so opposed to the changes. Basically stating that it would cost each taxpayer in the city $5-$6 per month to make those changes plus their university, junior and high school teams could no longer play there under current rules in those leagues. Whereas Toronto and Montreal CFL stadiums the new field configuration fits perfectly and changing the dimensions is just remarking the fields and moving the goal posts. So very minimal costs to those larger centers.

I think the only stadiums that don't have U Sports teams as primary tenants....and aren't used often for amateur football....are Toronto, Hamilton, Ottawa, BC and Edmonton.

But Hamilton, Ottawa and BC have significant amateur usage, Ottawa has hosted lots of U Sports games although both schools there have their own stadiums too. BC plays US rules for high school so it's already different when they use BC Place for provincials.

Montreal is actually one of the stadiums that will be hardest to change because McGill isn't really willing to play ball....and it's their stadium. Als will have to foot the bill 100% to put a second goal post footing in and move the posts just for their games. The field lining will be an issue too because most of the turf fields are sewn in except for ads. That's millions of dollars to replace and a lot of money ongoing to play on a field that needs the lines changed repeatedly. Might end up playing on a field with multiple sets of lines for football which will look bush league.

I've generally thought the field changes wouldn't happen largely because of the issue of cost and field usage where the CFL is a tenant in a lot of stadiums that are community owned really.

This guy is a prick & an embarrassment to his son playing on the Bombers. Just a big loudmouth who still thinks he's relevant. He's a car salesman now ion Regina after being fired as Riders play by play. Argued with just about everybody on social media including commentators from TSN leading up to losing his job with the Riders. if you follow him on Instagram or X then you know he has an axe to grind with the Riders & CFL.

On my way to Touchdown Okanagan... Kelowna... whever it's called. Looking forward to watching a game at a slightly expanded Apple Bowl again. Tyler was the Passing Coordinator there in 2018. KBF, if you read this do you want to go for dinner & a few drinks after the game??? if interested. leave me some kind of message either here or in private to get in touvh with you.

If you have an old message from him you can likely send him a new message in that thread. Some people have full inboxes and cant get new messages.
