25/26 CFL (Non Bombers) Off Season Thread

Is this ever a guy we should take a run at? I really like Pokey as a receiver but not sure he's a 1A Superstar guy... Would you ever take a run at Hatcher as your #1 and then have Pokey and Demski as 2/3?

I hate change. This is going to take me like a year to get used to.

Can confirm - ran it through Google Translate and this is what came back:

  • Brady is the most complete running back in the CFL full stop. Rushing, receiving, blocking, no one does it all as well as he does.   Now that doesn't automatically make the contract he got w

The only sorta issue is the weather is all over the place. It literally snowed last night here. Melted quick but it snowed and it’s still chilly at night and during the day. But maybe it’s better than late November but not really. So the Victoria Day start is gonna be interesting. It’s also the first real weekend ppl go camping or to the cabins here. Not sure about starting it then.

Honestly thought it used to start then and got changed cuz weather and potential conflict with nhl playoffs, tv scheduling and contracts and what not.

I doubt weather was a determining factor for these changes as you pointed out...It's really about revenue but how many fans are going to show up to meaningless games ....when nothing is left to gain. so in turn the club proceeds to give a half-hearted effort... Fans will get turned off affecting the numbers at the gate...This will be closely watched to see how much revenue is actually gained.....We shall see

as a former player...I have never seen or know of a player playing to not win...and the ones who loafed cause a game apparently meant nothing, or half arsed it didnt hang around long.

nobody likes to lose even of it's a meaningless game....or even pre-season, as for attendance....season ticket sales are what they are and 1st game...last game...its the same net revenue...as for walk ups....more fan friendly weather for the last few games of the yr, may actually have more people in the stands...as it is and has been...a lot of late season games that had meaning in a lot of places were not attended as well, soley based on weather....And to have the Grey Cup earlier and more than likely avoiding for most part sub -15 or worse temps....who's opposed to that?

The Bomber fans will attend meaningless games because the experience at the game is great for all sorts of ages.

The problem is that this only benefits Winnipeg and maybe Regina. It may get a better tv deal because of more games... but will the tv audience increases when 3 weeks out of the play offs the Argos sitting in 4th place are resting all of their star players and the B team is trotted out getting pounded by the #1 Blue Bombers? Will people in Toronto want to attend the game in person when they have a bazillion other options for entertainment.

I know its apples and oranges.. but the UFC has a mega tv deal which is great for the company right now. However the product is suffering massively and they are having huge issues selling tickets and getting people to watch the product either when it was PPV or now on free tv. The product being diluted eventually will come back to bite the league in the butt.

As I said before... this only works if they get more teams and the only way that happens is US expansion.

I've been thinking about it and while I don't think these are necessarily GREAT changes, they don't bother me as much as losing the 55 and moving the goal post back.

What's the point of 18 games to eliminate one team?

Show me real evidence that these changes are going to attract the 35 and under crowd.

Teams cant feasibly sit more than 2...3 starters as it is financially, especially a team who has had a pile of injuries during the season that didnt land a big number of guys on full 6 game IR....I think this fear of seeing a pre-season lineup is a bit overblown actually

This change is purely a money grab from the people who come to games now. It's a bit about the future, put mainly about the now.

Some changes to the cap and rosters sizes for 2026. I like the additional reserve roster and PR

For the 2026 CFL season, both sides agreed $50,000 will be added back to the salary cap, totalling $6,330,514 per team. The salary cap cannot decrease while the current collective bargaining agreement is in place and all revenue sharing growth will continue to get added to the cap. Meanwhile, the players received permanent increases to weekly training camp compensation — first-year veterans will earn $725, second-year veterans $825, and three-year plus veterans $925.

Starting immediately, each franchise will have the ability to designate up to two players on a reserve roster each week with no changes to the ratio or roster composition, creating 18 additional fully-paid jobs. Practice roster sizes have been increased by two, with a Canadian filling one of those new spots. Also, language has been cleaned up when it comes to the injured lists, marketing money, and Nationalized Americans.

So the first place team might have to beat the second place team twice to make the Grey Cup?

No

It's ingrained in a real football player to play hard. You don't get to the pros, unless you are some athletic freak, by half arsing. The consequence of half arsing or checking out in a game is that you get injured a lot of times. When you are out on the field with 23 athletic freaks and man mountains flying around you, you better be checked in with your head on a swivel. Yea most real good players that never happens especially on defence. On offence you see it sometimes because the play call is far away from you....but even then you will get an earful for doing it.

yeah I was gonna ad that is one of the most likely ways for injuries to happen, and some of the season ending types too....Thanks for adding that!

CFL adjusts scheduling, playoff structure set to begin in...

The Canadian Football League (CFL) has finalized updates to the season schedule and reached an agreement with the CFL Players’ Association (CFLPA) on a refreshed playoff format beginning in 2027.

Write it down folks. Goalie and I agreeing on something. Next thing you know gas prices be under 1.5

Earlier start, earlier finish. Bout time. I was thinking with the longer playoff maybe we should cut back 2 games but we’re still finishing early Nov so what’s the point.

For all the changes I wish Stu would throw the country a bone and award the 10th franchise to whichever city builds a 20-25k stadium first.

Did I misread it then?

Week 1

1v2

3v4

Week 2

Loser of 1v2 vs winner of 3v4

Week 3

Winner in week 2 vs. Winner of 1v2

Let's say #1 beats #2 in week 1. Wouldn't they have to beat them again in week 3? Whereas the loser of week 1 only has to beat them once, plus a lower seeded team.

As a curling fan I'm quit used to th we playoffs. Pretty sure 1 and 2 can play twice. That's the point of the second chance in Page Playoffs. Unless this is some kinda weird hybrid model.

Loser of 1v2 may not even make it back to the game.
