I think most GMs would honour any contracts offered. I don't think any team would mess with the system they have to screw it up. Look at last year when they announced the salary cap kncrease right about now. A week after the window opened. No teams wanted to offer more to nab a player from another team or put in a different offer to keep or sign a free agent. Example: Kenny Lawler. The Bombers could have offered more but said no after he & the Ti Cats agreed to terms.

Maybe but sounded like Kyle didn’t wanna go any higher. But I’m never going back the past is in the past.

The neg window is set up that if a team and a player come to an agreement they register that agreement with the league, the team is obligated to follow through at that point if the player does not re-sign with his current team who has a 48 hour exclusive window to try re-sign the player if they so choose. The GMs MUST honor any deal negotiated in the window and filed with the league. As I understand it, and I may not be interpeting it correctly, The player is not obligated to sign any deal and can go to FA if they so desire. They must however inform the league that they no longer intend to sign the deal negotiated and they cannot talk to any other teams until the opening of FA.

Does transferring his rights transfer his bonus?

What bonus? He wouldn't have any bonus until he signed a new contract. That doesn't happen until he is either released or he reaches FA. Team never put in an after the season roster bonus in the final year of a contract. The only time we see the roster bonuses are on the first years of a multi-year deal and most are timed for about the middle of January. It would be epically stupid if 3-4 days before FA, Ceresna had a bonus due on an expiring contract.

If that were the case no team would have offered him anything until that bonus was paid. But like I said, there is almost zero chance that Ceresna had not cashed in on every dollar of his expiring contract prior to the window.

He's signing somewhere, just not Toronto.

Didn't he already sign in Hamilton right after his Toronto release

I think @Mike mentioned it but the size of these DL they adding and signing is interesting. This dude is kinda short at 6 1 but 300 pounds. Lots of the others are 6 4 6 5. 6 7. Ya. 6 7.

according to the Bombers site... the only DL at 6'7 is Willie... unless there are some guys not listed yet...

Could you imagine a future with Shay at WLB and Smith at SLB. Teams would have a hard time running at 3 guys all over 230lbs.

are you reinventing the wheel... or just making the three LB positions the way they were 15 years ago?

Probably Bighill for me, with Strev and Woogie a close second... But I love the discussion.

Top 5

Bighill

Strev/Woogie

Matty Ice

Collaros

Stan/Yosh

I hate to be a stickler... but this is clearly a top 7 😉

I'll go: Stan, Biggie, Collaros, Harris, Yoshi... had to make a few tough decisions to follow the rules (Jeffcoat and Willie, for example)...

The players contracts are up so I don't think any bonuses would be forthcoming from any expired contracts.

But why make a public announcement? That would be protocol anyway. They know he's leaving. My point is, if you do it for one player then you have to do it for everyone. Even the backup long snapper who left in free agency. That's a heckuva lot of announcements league wide per team. I've no issue with it. Just that it was never done before.

Did Edmonton announce it or did the league? Nothing on the L's website about it so maybe the league put it out there for clarity since rights transfers are rare.

Edit - just saw Hervey's statement. Said it was an attempt to do right by the player and other clubs and let them get going on things without needlessly holding up the process.

The website is not completely up to date.

They signed a 6'6 DL named Michael Fletcher the other day but he's not listed so there's definitely people missing. He was signed before Ceresna was made official yet he's on there so it's a bit random.

So for the final phase of free agency, ideally we get a vet qb, imp wr, and pass rusher or two. The qb group is ugly, pass rusher group has some upside but lots of question marks, wr group has some solid gambles for depth too.

@wbbfan , who do you like for pass rushers and WRs?

For backup qb MBT. For receiver Kurleigh Gittens Jr.
