Brady is not going to get the offers this round that he got last round.  He’s unfortunately proven in the past 3 years that he’s not a big game player.  The numbers are there, but it’s guys like Ouellette, Stevie Scott, Kadeem Carey who are stepping up big in big games and big moments.

Can make excuses but where’s the signature playoff game in his career?  Someone like Harris took over the playoffs from the time he was a rookie until his body gave out in his late 30s.

The production is impressive but you’re not paying $300,000 for big games in August.

Hasn't he also had some pretty consequential fumbles in some pretty big games?

Posted

2022- 15 carries for 82 yards, 1 catch for 4 yards. Bombers QBs are 14 for 25 for 183 and 2 picks.

2023- 19 carries for 119 yards and a td, 1 catch for 8 yards. Zach was 19/23 for 236 yards and a pick.

2024-  11 carries of 84 yards and a td, 2 catches for 18. Bombers Qbs are 15/33 for 202 yards and 4 ints.

I'd say Brady showed up in those games.

Meanwhile we're paying a guy $600,000 who was a combined 48 of 76 for 621 and 6 interceptions. That's 16 for 25.1 for 207 yards and 2 picks per game.

So Brady was 45 for 285 yards and 2 TDs and 4 catches for 30 yards. That's 95 rushing yards per games (6.3 ypc) with roughly a TD.

Exactly.  Easy to make excuses.  It's Buck Pierce or Jason Hogan's fault.  Reality is he's taking a haircut in this free agency like a lot of receivers did the past couple years.  His impact on winning doesn't match his current salary.

Some might argue it’s a reason not an excuse.

Our pay structure is way outta whack..and monies alloted in big bucks where u usually pay the least

But osh values his out dated vets in a lot of those spots...so it screws our overall roster

Worked well when those guys were prime garde A beef...but they ain't...but we still pay and play many like they are...he needs 5 upside the head to clue him into reality

If OC guy is back...BO is good as gone...and hopefully osh by labor day for that stupidity

If hogans back / we don’t do a major re tooling that shows serious change, the whole team is cooked

Hogan has to be toasted for sure and Walters has to show up for work this offseason.

I strongly feel we should have fired Walters, both to change the dynamic of the GM/HC and because he oversaw the biggest bleed off of talent i can remember in a 3 year span. That being said I am a forgiving man if 2015-2019 Walters reappears

I hate our salary structure over the past few years and hope we remedy that by dumping some vast overpays we have. BO, WJ, and ZC to be particular. Gonna get a lot of hate for this but I hate the BO contract and I think our team has seen a vast decline since the BO and ZC numbers skyrocketed. We cant dump Zach's contract so I think a very unpopular moving on from BO is in order.

Osh didn't negotiate albatross contracts for BO, ZC, and WJ. Let's pretend that Osh sounded his fist for those 3 guys, he didnt neg those contracts or make the final call.

There is tons to criticize Osh about, ridiculous contract extension amounts aren't one of them

Yeah...but u don't think osh said do what it takes?? Like really?

And osh has...hopefully had too much input...influence...hopefully that dynamic is shifted

I love Brady and the fact that he’s a Winnipegger but his salary is a luxury at the leagues most replaceable position.

I said it in 24 when he earned the contract, I’ll say it again now:  if I was building a roster RB is not the position I’d blow my wad on.

There are guys out there who can do what he does .. who don’t HAVE to do what he does .. and could (more than adequately) fill the role while allowing us to address other areas of the roster.

Depending on the source, RB's are 7th - 9th in terms of the average salary in the NFL by position group. Reasons - overall impact and availability of replacement players. You pay QB's, impact DL's, WR's, all star OL. I get CFL has differences ... Canadians are paid a premium ... we all love Brady ... But still, football is football. It's just bad salary cap management to pay an RB one of the highest salaries on any team.

I don't care what Osh told him. Walters wears the GM title not Osh. If a RB wants 250k per year, it's up to the GM to go back to the coach and say we couldn't get a reasonable deal done, let's move to plan B. You don't blow your brains out on albatross contracts just because the coach really would like a guy back. That's nonsense.

Totally agree. You can make exceptions if you get a real good deal on a QB or something but if you have a top 3 QB salary in the league you shouldn't be paying a premium at RB. 850k in combined salary for the guys standing behind salary is a recipe for a lot weakness, or lack of depth elsewhere. We've seen it. The proof is in the pudding. The guys that are clamoring for BO saying we are nothing without him are ignoring the fact that our overall offence has sucked since the Collaros/BO mega contracts were signed. BO is an awesome RB, but he was paid almost double what the guy who lead the league in rushing this year made. We obviously can get his production or close to it for a fraction of the price.

Also, and this is just a personal peeve and has no bearing on whether we should retain him or not, I really don't like that he claims to bleed blue but holds a gun to our head every time his contract expires. He totally has the right to do that, but I just don't like how he puts it out there in the media etc.

Hypothetical, if we lose Brady but sign one of Mills, Butler or Bell and save about 90-100k, how do you feel?

Thing is signing Brady allows us an import elesewhere , hopefully on the oline. A decent cdn lineman would cost 220 plus so the savings isnt as much as youd think. So Id really go in on Brady

Don’t we have Peterson under contract for next year already? Probably at a very cap friendly rate too, I expect. If Brady wants too much is there any chance we could roll with him as our #1? It lets us keep the ratio at that position and we could use the extra money to shore up more pressing weaknesses.

In fact a backfield of Peterson and MCI doesn’t sound too bad at all.

We routinely played more Canadians than required so does it matter if we don't use the advantage?

It's an idea. I'd try to bring an American on to join that backfield.

If we save 100k, that’s a nice chunk. Imo, I’d rather find another ni back to split  carries with peterson, or develop mci and find another developmental guy.

Yeah, 2 year deal.

yeah but not all cdns players are equal, unless youd like  an even more steady diet of JT

The entire point of my post is that we didn't need to have Thomas in the first place!

I get it but it also infers we need stronger talent at cdns, which has always been an element of stronger teams, just look at Sask with Emilus, Schafer baker, Campbell. You dont get stronger by losing your best cdns to other teams. Ford, and Dobson are recent examples of us getting weaker.

I think the rookie salary cap is a huge problem. If the Bombers wanted to sign Elgersma for $175,000 that should be their decision. The cap should be a floor & not a ceiling.

I think if you get so much NFL time in after your draft year that the rookie amounts are null and void now? Thought I read that, maybe someone can confirm? Sorry if that's all in my head.

I'm OK with that so long as our BO saving go directly to signing a top notch OL.

If we can get an allstar calibre OL for the Brady savings we can easily replace most of Brady's production for a regular RB salary. The net gain in us getting a stud OL is far greater than the 300 yards more from scrimmage we will get from Brady.

JT playing was not due to ratio.

No. It’s cuz he has terminal cancer and that was his wish. To start on a pro football team. Cuz it ain’t talent why he played. Can’t wait to see him trotted out again next year. That to me tells the story. Does Jake get signed or not. Signed means I’m depressed and not gonna enjoy next season. Don’t sign and there’s hope. We should all hope for hope. Seriously. Jake signing would be the ultimate well looks like they should have been let go moment.

Why? Coach is gonna play slugs like tho.as regardless.  We need to end the country club surrounding this team and value talent as much as intangibles.
