  • Fun to sit and watch practice today... Been about 20 years since I was last able. With respect to the late great Randy Turner, the king of Odds and Sods writing.... here's some thoughts: -Al

  • Just to speak to Wolitarsky’s character and just what a good dude he is … few years back, some friends and I went to go see him play at Earl’s on Main and we ended up chatting with him and Streveler …

Really easy to always say that there's some mystical coach out there that would be a better fit.  We've been through generations as CFL fans watching teams including our own who keep believing that.

Neuf is one of those old guys I hoped we'd move on from.

Mixed feelings on Neufeld,  he was bad the first half last year but better later.

Yeah thinking neufeld took time to get healthy is all. I'm ok having him back.

And neuf resigns for his 12th season as a bomber.
Boy he needs to play the year at the post injury level. We can’t afford to see him run out in that first half of the season turnstile mode again.

If the rumours about a lingering injury left over from the 2023 season were true, that would explain all that. Neuf is a good guy and effective when healthy, so lets us hope he is over whatever was limiting him,  and hope further that he doesn't have to compensate for a new right guard and incompetent center. There's a fair bit of money to be gained by dumping at least three veterans who, frankly, were not worth their salaries.

Agreed. Plus he was much better once he came back from injury.

From a certain point in the season and onward he was very solid from my vantage point. I think without him we'd be filling a gigantic hole.

If they’re consulting the database, maybe they’ll finally give Jabari Arthur his shot

Wait!   Havent confirmed this by napkin, yet.....

Are there any potential Canadian OL about to hit FA who would be an upgrade to our club?

McKellar is the only one that stands out

All good points. We really need change and growth on the ol. But more and more I feel we will sleep walk into camp with the same depth chart as last year. With maybe losing Dobson in free agency and replacing him with Wallace the only some what likely change.

Neufeld isn't that old by OL standards so as long as he stays healthy he's a good piece for our line...

He’s 36 with 134 games played. Only 5 games behind big Stan. Hes high on the short list of oldest and most experienced position players in the league.
Keep in mind he had injury issues his whole career. Hes played 18 games just twice in his career. 7 times he’s played 12 games or less, 6 of those 8 games or less. 6 years he’s played 14 games or more, and that includes last year where he was abysmal for more than half the year.
As far as years he’s played great and the majority of the games, you’re talking just 3 seasons here.

He might have more hard miles on him, more wear n tear than any one else in the league.
I think it’s very likely his peak form this year will be equal to his best play last year. But I also think he has close to no chance to play more than 2/3rds or the year, and a coin flip when it comes to how many of his games are good or bad.

Speaking of Oline, does Wallace get a shot to start? Has he shown enough for the club to go with him and let Dobson go?

I don't see how he hasn't earned at shot.  He seems like a better option at RG than LG.

I don’t know if I’d gamble on that this early on. Especially with this year’s draft being so thin on OL, you’re not going to replace Wallace so I’d try to keep Dobson for sure

If we’re going all the way back to the napkinbase maybe Travis Ortega still has some gas left in the tank

He might well take it. If he has the kind of 2nd year step forward most guys do who showed well as a rookie, it’ll be hard to keep him off the field.
That said I don’t want us to lose Dobson. He was drastically better after the first third or so.  Tons of up side and great football in front of him.
That said I wouldn’t give him a big pay day. And I could see some one else over paying Dobson.

it’s gonna be a hard year for teams to improve their ols with Canadian talent.
Kola is the big one we need to move on from. Not holding my breath. Other wise, we should look long and hard at flipping ratio and bringing in more high quality imports who are actual tackles.

Also, with the age of half our ol, and injury concerns the last couple years we really need 6-7 starting ol to get through the whole season.

I’d also still use as late a pick as possible on Eric schon. Even though he retired, if he ever changes his mind his rights are worth risking a 6th or later in.

I don't even know where to begin with this, but.... Osh traveling with the Leafs as an invitee for their "Mentors Trip"...

Actually in retrospect, I'm wondering if someone like Ryan Reaves has a relationship with him and invited him....

That’s odd. Wonder if they have the offers out and just waiting to finalize new hires? If not that’s a really strange choice a month out from free agency.

Looking like same old ,same old.

I okay with Neuf....he is one of the voices and leaders on the team....and was banged up last yr....played well again when finally healthy....Not to beat a dead horse to death but a change at center would bring the play up on the interior....Kolo is a very limited center....but we know limited talent here if an Osh fav gets the play time

The silence with other signings, and solidifying coaching is a little concerning tho....there some reason's I can see but prob wont mention here as dont wanna upset the fanboi's with nobody can do no wrong on our current staff

I think you will be surprised at a few players who are gonna look around and see what's available....tho not necessarily gonna leave...but may...many here wanna deny it but there is a fair sized group of players..some tenured vets who were not happy how things were managed 2 yrs running now....I also think that the non confirmation on an OC...and the defection of other coaches says a lot....of how some things are ran here...the my way or the suck it up style.....interesting 3 weeks coming up

Wonder where they got this idea from? 😂

It is unclear which member of the team invited O’Shea, though three Leafs players hail from Manitoba. One of those is veteran forward Ryan Reaves, who is the son of former Bombers’ running back and CFL Most Outstanding Player Willard Reaves. His brother, Jordan Reaves, also played in the CFL and spent his first training camp under O’Shea in Winnipeg.

Locker room leader is what folks call an old Vet who is not as valuable on the field as they used to be.
