GDT Can the Bombers D shutdown the Als?

Every bomber fan knows that the offence of any team in the CFL takes longer to develop than the defence. The linemen and the blockers behind them need to know what's happening immediately beside them, how to adapt to their fellow teammates. The running backs need to know where the holes are going to emerge. The blocking schemes on passing plays have similar challenges. You can't learn this in practices...

The Bomber Brain Trust decided player evaluation for the few positions that were open was far more important than getting the veterans in harmony with each other. So we have major rust to deal with, more so than usual this season.

There has been such a major talent improvement on our defence that just maybe we can shut down what was a very hot offence in Montréal at the end of last season.

On offence Brady Olivera is going to need a lot of determination as he tries to guess where the holes will be as his O line feel each other out. He's pretty good at seeing what is developing. If he gets 50 yards of rushing that would be pretty good. I'm not sure how open he will be on checkoff plays and other swing passes.

Collaros is going to get sacked a lot on many missed assignments. But he can scramble and is very good at it. He loves the long bomb and we can only guess how many touchdowns he will throw. That's how the offence is going to score, I suspect.

What I think will make or break the game tomorrow is how many touchdowns the defence can supply on turnovers. Maybe one pick six and one or two forced fumbles. There is a real chance pressures on the quarterback will be up significantly this year.

How else can we win this game?

FAJARDO BACK TO PASS! JAKE THOMAS WITH THE PRESSURE! FAJARDO FUMBLES, OH NO! GAUTHIER PICKS UP THE FOOTBALL, HES GOING TO TAKE IT TO THE HOUSE! 60-3 BOMBERS LEAD! The crowd goes wild, Booch’s head exp

  • there were a few of us who said it.    Now I think most of tonight was squarely on not playing in preseason for most of the offensive starters, but yeah Collaros has seen some really concern

No eye rolls here. If it was the Bombers I’d be laughing and saying “well, they could have stopped it instead of crying about it”. I’ve always felt that way about running up the score. Fair game.

My day in a nutshell.

Picturing Noeller peering through the windows of a shuttered Stone Angel just made me chuckle to myself. The city and the Bombers Charlie Browned you!

Edited to add I have a morbid sense of humour. It sucks when the places you love close down.

And I’ll give him due credit for that. No one likes admitting they didn’t do a good job.

Odd that it would make you laugh.... But whatever cranks your tractor, cowboy...

Agreed, that gave some hope to hear he acknowledged a problem that many others could clearly see.... but then he also said that Collaros didn't need any preseason time.

See edit above. No malice intended.

I feel like they’ll turn it around this season, at least somewhat but I’m pretty sure they’ll get porked again in Ottawa too. The first 3-4 games are gonna be ugly imo.
I’m afraid for next year is what I am. This all hinges on Strev, or someone else  long-term now.

Lmao at "porked".

Doug Brown is the only media guy in town who doesn’t fluff away questions or give easy outs. I wish he hosted the coaches show.

He & O'Shea might come to blows.

I’d rather listen to that than another call from “Gail”

Turned out Als only need 1 receiver (Philpot) to beat us.

If that what gonna be our O, D and ST, it's going to be a long season.

I think the D will get better, and they were good enough to win the game with any kind of offence.
If they focus on running the ball until Zack possibly gets it together( debatable if that will even happen) they can still win games.

The Bomberss looked slow toninght. they couldn't match the overall team speed of the Als. Funny how a great returner can make even an average team great. Mitchell was no threat at all. We gave up Janarion Grant for him???? I thought the Bomber DL played alright. They did pressure fajardo & sacked him 3 times. Our secondary especially the corners were impressive. Ford & Bonds acquitted themselves well. They can only get better. As far as Zach goes, this is what happens when you don't play your starting qb the entire pre season. He looked rusty & the timing was off. Our high priced receivers looked disinterested at times & just seemed to be going through the motions.

TSN sure loved the fact the Bombers struggled. Replayed that final GC drive over & over. Even Sean Lemon which really pissed me off. They praised everyone on Montreal constantly. Karma is a ***** Stubblefield.

I think Chris Smith won the KR/PR job. Thing is he got injured.

Augustine is a better returner than anything Mitchell showed. I hope Smith hung around though, they need an actual returner.

Is Chris Worthy still available?

After a debacle like that, is best to start with the good things that happened..........

Cole INT.

Uh, that about covers it.

OMFG....Osh actually admitted that maybe they were not really prepared or ready....did a light turn on...or did Wade/walters have a lil chat??

Legitimately one of the best interviews I've heard from him. Leaving me hopeful he's gonna bust some heads over this.

I thought Bonds had a tremendous game at corner.

Interior of the offensive line was an issue, at least early in the game.  Neufeld in particular struggled.

We got late 2023 Zach tonight.

Strevy played with more heart and emotion than anyone tonight.

There is no question he won the job

I’ve said this before but I don’t recall seeing a network blatantly disfavour any sports team during a good run as much as TSN does the Bombers, especially since Cuthbert left.
I’ll never forget the sadness in Rod Smith’s voice at the end of the 2021 cup.

When Calgary was on top, they were all over them with awe and hyperbole, same with Montreal before that, and BC in the early-mod 2000s. I’m glad I’m not the only one who sees it.

It would be an anomaly for this particular preseason to have been used to evaluate a player. It seems more likely that Mitchell was determined very early to be the starter and Chris Smith and all the other were just filling up reps.

Not until Zach gets it together. Zach has been and will be moving forward at his best when we are a run team first. Was true in 2019, 2021 and last year. This teams O struggles when they get awayt from busting heads and playing mean.

Brady was the MOP of this team and should have been in the league. Not Collaros.

Yeah, there was no sadness about our loss. Both Smith & Suitor were jumping out of the booth taking delight in showing that last GC drive over & over & over. And the Philpott performance. A new superstar is born.... spit.
