Three-peat Kickoff Countdown

Recommended Posts

Today’s selection features two of the most under appreciated and unfairly maligned Bombers in recent memory. Both helped turn the club from a poor sister into a contender and ultimately a champion. Both also embraced the city and were true givers back to this community, both in spirit and in charitable contributions. Class people, leaders, winners, Grey Cup champions.

Until this goddamned labour dispute or whatever you call it is over, I'm done with the countdown. Eff it.

About the number 16’s. Post playing days, who is currently having the most football success? #16 Dunigan, respected colour guy and entertainment personality, or #16 Kliff Kingsbury, remarkable NCAA QB developer and head coach of the Cardinals?

Remembering those who left us in 2014 - Winnipeg Free Press

Tricky D i c k Thornton as a Bomber. One of the more colourful players who ever put on a Bomber uniform. Helluva Safety as well.

Thornton thought he was the best QB on the roster in Winnipeg. He felt he was better than Ken Ploen as a passer. He wanted to switch from defense where he was an all star. Bud Grant said no. His QB stats are pretty abysmal. Story goes that he had some signs made up saying, "We Want Thornton" & paid some kids to carry them around at a Bomber home game for all to see.

Thornton & Dave Mann had Directors Chairs in the Argo locker room that no one could sit in but themselves. Thornton's chair says, "Trick".

WFL-Dick Thornton

Media in Winnipeg & Toronto loved him. Always quick with a quote when he had something on his mind. Rest in Peace, Trick.
