2019-20 CFL Offseason

For some teams, the CFL Offseason is here. Rather than lose all the coaching movement discussions to the Regular season thread, I thought we could start putting it here.

Those teams currently lost in the wilderness:

Ottawa

Toronto

BC

Montreal

Calgary

Edmonton

Saskatchewan

Hamilton

The champs are here.. the champs are here... Winnipeg*

I give you Collaros as a guy who has zero knowledge of our system and completely sucked on their last team. That's what folks are hoping for.

Collaros didn't completely suck with his last few teams.  He had injury issues but wasn't completely terrible.  Also when we did bring him in it wasn't like we had a whole lot of other options since it was mid season and luckily Toronto flipped him to us.

Are you really going to compare Kilgore with Collaros??

Collaros didn't suck with the riders, he was astoundingly average and injured a pile... but his win/loss record was solid.

No I'm more comparing him to Alex Ross, Darian Durant, Brian Brohm and all the other journeyman QBs that Walters has signed to be our #2...

and part of the injured a lot, and somewhat average was cause of a craptacular o-line and shitty OC game plan...somewhat forced onto team due to crappy o-line and the inability to allow plays to develop from lack of protection so constant barrage of hitches..screens and dump offs

Well he's proven he's good at finding talent that's not quite good enough for the NFL...

Revisionist history. Weren't you one of those who said that not having Collaros last year in the playoffs didn't matter at all to our win?

Collaros with the RIders, and with the Bombers for that matter, was pretty much a carbon copy of Matt Nichols. He didn't light the world on fire but knew how to win.

What is revisionist about that? He stated that Collaros was astoundingly average but didn't lose his team many games.

A porous OL AND his injury history were the main reasons for that disastrous O system that the Riders were pretty much forced to run.

Because he didn't. The riders offense really lacked anything of note to hurt the bombers that season regardless of who was at qb.

Yeah...Collaros wouldn't have fared any better in McAdoo's dink and don't offence of 2018. Literally anyone could have played QB for the RIders and gotten beat by us with that game plan.

The essentially had to constantly roll their qbs out and throw the ball quick or the qbs would be killed. Bombers D handled that offense well all season. Losses were only when they turned the ball over themselves.

2018 was the year the Ridersr D and ST accounted for many of their wins, their O mostly sucked.

i think their offence scored only 20 td's all year

Love Taman... The CFL is a better place with him in it. Also, re: Mack... He only ever wanted to be a placeholder for the Als. He had less than zero interest in any kind of GM gig. So he'll be stoked to just do scouting and such...

Lapo swinging the axe....I wonder who he has on our fa list that would fit his club....We better get ]re-upping' going in earnest

Well, they have to want to go there... they have no qb, no OL, no receivers,no RBs, no DL, no Lbs & no DBs. Special teams suck. They are the Bombers in 2014. No one wanted to come here either & no one did other than Stanley Bryant.

No it all eh?

Is Dom Davis a free agent?  Surprised he wasn't cut.

Can't think that Lapo is a Davis fan after the way he shitcanned him in 2017 (and also of course after a 5-TD 14-pick season by Davis in 2019)

I thought Lapo was a fan of Davis? Am I forgetting what happened?

I don't know of anything specific between Lapo and Davis.

but Davis was the explicit QB2 all through 2017, had been with the team for two full seasons and was highly touted as the first Bomber backup QB in years who wouldn't be a free space on the bingo card, and maybe could be something greater.

Nichols gets hurt in Game 17, it's Davis' turn to shine and he plays out the game, about a half and change.  It doesn't go super well, we lose but Davis doesn't obviously play himself off the roster like a Boltus or a Mike Quinn. Then for the critical playoff clinching week 18 game, suddenly it's the Fever starting, and Davis is cut before free agency.

Anyway, we decided somewhere between halftime of week 17 and the start of week 18 to move on from the guy ... after two years of grooming but less than thirty minutes of play running the real offense.  Given how he was touted that was weird.  Many worse bomber QBs have gotten way longer leashes.  So now that Lapo is calling a lot of the shots I'm surprised that Davis is still a Redblack.
