I seem to remember hearing about the NFL playing a game in Mexico and then having to move it back to the States at the last minute because the field in Mexico literally had a concert and was completely destroyed 1 week before game day.   I don't think this is the same. 

That would have been a text book tackle 2 years ago.

No, not the same. the entire field was ruined in Mexico. We're talking about 2 patches 2 feet by 3 feet.

He skewered the promoter in his column today. I hope he really fried him on American sports radio. That guy should never be allowed to promote another sporting event ever again.

Oh no, the NFL game wasn't a huge success.   Somehow, I'm over it already.

Everywhere I read (including multiple US media outlets) blamed the low ticket sales and fan interest on the promoter and high ticket prices, not the city itself. Maybe there are some who will blame the field on Winnipeg but any educated person will realize it's due to the goalposts.

Overall, it was a horribly planned event. All the talk of pre-game festivals and making it an "event" was just hot air and despite a promise that the starters would play, the only ones who did were the kickers. The NFL and NFLPA signed off on the field yesterday and this still happened. I'm not surprised the Packers balked at it though, even if the Raiders didn't, the Raiders weren't planning on playing starters and the Packers were.

It was a gongshow. 

I'm not saying that Winnipeg or the Blue Bombers were at fault for anything but the perspective of fans and the US media is that this was Winnipeg's fault. They're far too lazy to put any work or thought into this.

I read a quote a couple days ago where the promoter was saying it was an event like seeing the Rolling Stones or some such thing. Well there's your problem. It's an NFL preseason game, it's not a can't miss event. Sloppy football with a bunch of guys who will get cut and maybe never play football again isn't something fans will fork out any amount of money to see. 

They got greedy and the thing was a gong show as a result. 

Bombers can't come back soon enough.....lesson learned...this is a CFL city not nfl

the only people that are concerned, or were concerned, about the venue are media people looking for something to write about... honestly, I doubt that anyone other than those seeking clicks or looking to be some big shot reporter on TV are actually talking about it...  because, truth be told, the TV viewing audience for this game was probably about the same size as the paid attendance, lol...

We watched the game..... they sure didn't do much to help promote the city during the game.

well it's obvious that no one outside of the media saying this crap feel the say way...  it's just another cog in the hype machine... they are several cogs as well, much like 'pro' wrestling... you have the media that reports the good and then the ones that reports the bad as part of a calculated exercise to get people to ultimately attend/watch... people here have become pretty much immune to it all and pay little, if any, attention to any media noise surrounding the NFL...

They've pretty much killed the kickoff in the NFL anyhow. I didn't find it that odd that they nixed it last night. 

Anybody else see the hypocrisy that it was Green Bay who complained when their home field is brutal in December and January?

WE played our last home game with the patch already in place...was a non-issue..and bet most people didn't even notice it was there, tho it was brought to teams attention prior to game just so they knew...though the Bombers already did

That or the Bombers knew what they were doing with the patch and the NFL did not.
