Around the League: 2019 Off Season

Okay, so the off season officially begins now that the Grey Cup is over. Lots of topics for discussion in the months to come with the Bombers & the League. A new CBA needs to be negotiated sooner rather than later.  Will there be an eventual agreement or a lockout? How much will the salary cap go up? Randy Ambrosie is on record that wants the cap to significantly go up so that is a positive.  Will Bo Levi Mitchell sign with an NFL or perhaps another CFL team? What about Mike Reilly & Trevor Harris who are also free agents? There's a new start up league called the  AAFL & there are legit concerns that it'll draw star CFL players away or hamper free agent signings with CFL teams. Coaching changes in BC & Toronto. The continuing evolving story of the expansion Halifax Schooners & possible exhibition games in Mexico.

My mom went into the bomber store years ago to buy me a jersey and Moreno was in there.  She met him and said he was a good looking fella so she bought me his jersey.  So pretty much I got his jersey

  • I hate that ******* ginger with a fiery passion for all he did to us over the years..............but............I respect the hell out of him as a CFL QB.

Wild week in Regina. Sounds like Rod Pederson is done at CKRM and as the Riders  promotions coordinator I have no details or idea why.

Fixed.

Sherritt retiring is a big loss for the Eskimos.

If they lose Reilly...

HAM adds Tommy Condell as WR coach, no doubt a future OC. Add two more cast-off s to staff from BC. Three holdover s from Austin/Jones staff given pink slips.

Supposedly it goes back 3 months or so to a couple minute segment he did on one of his shows. I was wrong in that it wasn't a podcast.

But anyway....  just proves a point that Riderville is like North Korea.

Say anything bad, you get canned and shipped out.

Dude.  You showed up at the front door throwing nuclear haymakers. Of course you're going to get banned.

It was widely known that Peterson had been battling the bottle for many years but had dried out several years ago.  However, if you sober up a horse thief, you still have a horse thief.

RP got canned.  His timeline basically indicates this.  Also leaving Pats in mid-season.

Love it. Good riddance. The CFL will be better without him.

Cone of silence descends on Riderfans. Taking themselves so deathly serious is both ha-ha funny and weird funny.

Yet any similar story on any other team is fair game.

Does this mean more Jamie Nye content on CFL.CA? He stinks to put it mildly.

Bit of a low blow there.  Alcoholism is a disease and people should be praised and supported for beating it.

Pederson' struggles have nothing to do with this. I happen to know the reason why he is gone but it best not be discussed in public.  And out of respect to the friend that told me.

Then why say this ?

Acknowleding and beating addiction ? Noble.

Using that as part of the arsenal for self promotion? Creepy.

Only to confirm it was not drinking related as was inferred in the post a responded to.

Self promotion?  Hardly my friend. I have no need nor desire.

My point being that when people are in the grip of an addiction, they are often devious, dishonest and manipulative. Those who dry out and overhaul their lives as per the 12 steps are the ones who flourish, but those who simply abstinent (often by being compelled) are the ones who struggle and often fall down again because they have not done the work on themselves.

Got it. Thx

I was quite surprised when Jones quitting didn't headline the national news tonight.

Or CNN, but on the other hand, "Fox News" might.

I, for one, am disappointed in Rod Pedersen leaving. I would often listen to the sports cage out here in Saskatoon. Pedersen was fiercely loyal to the Riders and a true "homer". He wore his emotions on his sleeve. I would text him as a Bomber fan and he'd get riled up. It was always in good fun and he said so too. I appreciated his honesty with alcoholism too. I will miss him.

I wish you all the best, Rod!!

Understood.

No, was referring to Pederson.

I know you're not a Mark Washington fan. Anything I should know about Robin Ross,  Randy Melvin?

HAM just hired them.

They are good football guys. I like Ross. Washington has no clue. Just when he figures out the Lions can't play zone and are a man to man D he sends them back into zone and we get steamrolled  Frustrating.

I met Robin Ross when he was HC at Western Washington in Bellingham, WA. My son was considering playing there. We had some discussions & he may have gone there but WW dropped their football program suddenly & that ended that. Ultimately, Simon Fraser took their place.  My son ended up playing at SFU three years later so in a sense he did kind of play there.  A lot of alumni involved with SFU never understood why the AD at SFU never hired Ross. He knew the Conference SFU played in, the teams & he knew how to win. He was available & the AD at the time hired other guys with no success.
