  • The way this was worded I was hoping Paul Friesen was taking another job, no such luck

The only thing that would've made this move perfect is if he had asked for a release, signed with the Riders, received a lofty signing bonus... then retired...

  • Good luck to Smith in the future....I'll always remember that Velcro catch and his spunky attitude...He hasn't mentioned anything 'health wise' for his decision but I'm guessing it had a lot to do wit

When he was injured last year his injuries were not concussions, were they?

Was hoping he'd be our dressler for the next 5 years.. oh wait, we have dressler!

jaaaayyyyyzzzzuzzzzzzz...........seriously?

that definitely makes keeping Denmark a lot more important........

A career where people aren't trying to decapitate you?  This makes no sense!

Best of luck to him and his new journey.

wooooooooooow. I wish him the best moving forward.

Can't say I blame him:

Having Stafford and Denmark makes this hurt less.

Wonder if gurley is getting a call today. (unless he signed and i missed it) Isnt mcduffie still floating around FA too?

Certainly unfortunate... but as @Jpan85 pointed out, we still have Denny and Stafford to go along with Dressler and Adams...

I wish Mr Smith all the best

Surprising!  Good thing we signed a few WRs this offseason.

I wish Ryan all the best I his new career.

Gurley should be on the horn any time now

Well this is surprising but the fact is we still have 4+ veteran import receivers so it shouldn't hurt too bad.  Just means there is an opportunity for a good rookie to get more reps.

Mcduffie is currently a Cowboy. Not sure about Gurley

How much cap space did Smith frees up?

Interesting, I would think now with his available salary that was fairly significant and already budgeted into the SMS for this year could be allocated for a fairly significant free agent signing or more inclination now to draft the BPA  with our first 2 picks and roster them this year.

Personally I would be on the horn with Laing giving him Smith's money and a bit more and going all Import receiver

Hurts less with Denmark back.

Wish Smith nothing but the best in his new career.

McDuffie signed with the Cowboys.

Could wait for some NFL cuts too. Some receivers won't make it to the summer and the Bobmers can be there to poach someone.

I wondered about Gurley myself. Wish Smith the best but the timing kinda sucks. If it is job related, not health related (which I doubt with his concussion problems last season) & he knew he had to make a choice I just wish he let the Bombers know a month & a half ago as there were some pretty good receivers available then we could have pursued. Having said that, he still has to look after himself first so he made the best decision for him & his family.

Going off of nothing more than vague memories and intangible goo, 120k would be my spitball.

First choice being McDuffie but I don't see him being cut by Dallas based on his return abilities.  Wait for the Riders to cut a receiver or better yet send Neufeld home for a receiver (not Owens) and one of their first round picks. :D
