BC cut T-Dre Player, 2nd round pick in 2014, who started 9 games for them at right guard last year.
24 years old, born in Winnipeg ... is there any reason this kid doesn't immediately join the Bombers? This is exactly the stroke of luck we needed if we can bring him in.

Me neither. He's been a fan whipping boy for a while and Randle is a superior CB by a mile. He's got to be making good money, too much to just be a backup. It's a good situation when you can cut a former starter because someone better took his spot.

CIS rules are complex, but basically they boil down to a player having a 7 year window when the graduate high school.   They can play 5 years in total within that window.
So, a player out of High School can play CJFL  (Rifles) for 2 years without using up any CIS eligibility.   That's why you see so many players go to the CJFL out of high school, it gives them the chance to develop and then shop the CIS schools with a higher level of training.

I'm not wondering!! And the coach is right...all the fan sees is the quarterback getting pounded into the turf. What we don't know is.....did the running back not complete his assigned block?? Did the quarter-back take too long in the pocket ( hello Drew Willy ), did the receiver not run the right route and delay the whole play?? There's more to it, it's a team game and team responsibilities....

That was great!  Loved hearing an old school coach answer questions and talk football in an off the cuff and insightful way.  When it was just the HC, there is a lot of choosing the words carefully and "controlling the message".  Very nice to hear the specific coaches discussing their positions.  And with such passion.

Orrrrrrrrrrrr he's trying to show how the number of sacks isn't always an OL problem. If the RB misses a block that's not a problem with the offensive line, if the quarterback runs into a guy all on his own that's not the OLs fault, if the OL gives time but the qb hangs onto the ball that's not their fault.
The question was stupid because it shows a fundamental lack of understanding about the game and tries to distil it down into a simple talking point. You guys gave up 59 sacks, you suck. When the reality is that the reporters have no clue how many sacks the OL actually gave up vs. other areas being responsible for it.
Spreading the blame around? How about he's actually addressing what the real problems are rather than having his offensive line take all the heat for it?

If this is the kind of entertainment we get from the mandatory assistant interviews, I'm ALL for it.
It's about time somebody tore into some of the stupidity that gets peddled by our local media. Notice how when Wylie asks a football related question, NOBODY in that scrum has an answer for it? They can look at numbers all they want on a piece of paper but ask them to actually talk about what goes on down at field level and they're speechless.

The fact that O'Shea lets a guy know he's cut and then gives him a day to process it/call his family etc, before announcing it to the world is not a bad thing.  We can wait a day.

Medlock is a proven kicker, and a great free agent signing. As I type this I'm just wondering.....do we hang onto Castillo and TRADE him rather than cut him? Trade him for a player in a position we need some help with?? Hate to see him go for nothing.....

I made the list myself by going through the roster. As for the status of the players, the Wpg Sun has updates on lots of the guys and for the rest I just checked twitter for confirmation of their injuries.

Castillo has shown "promise" but you don't know if a cheque is good until you take it to the bank- in this case, full-contact games. Castillo might just develop a sudden mysterious injury which will keep him sidelined indefinitely but could heal spontaneously and abruptly.

We hardly saw anything of either Willy or Nichols. But what we have at #3 and #4 is so improved from the past 2 seasons it's difficult to put into words. We have depth and skill at the qb position, and we should all breathe a sigh of relief over that!

Richards dropped an easy one and also made a catch.
The Williams td was both a solid pass and reception.
I was happy to see that the newer qbs have arms and can zing it. Also mobile.
The new Canadians looked like they belong.
McDuffie made one bad play but also made several real good plays.
What impressed me the most was the low penalties we had and the team seemed organized and not confused

I heard Addison Richards' name last night. That's progress, right?

Seriously though, great game. Looking forward to seeing them against some stronger competition. Still, it looks like we finally have some depth. It will be nice to be able to breathe while the starters are getting some rest. Also, isn't it nice to feel confident in your kicker?

Live..at the game. Good to be in the stadium once again!
1st team against 1st team - must say Glenn looked pretty sharp and their specific play calling got a few receivers wide open. We ran, at first, a pretty Bellefeuille kind of offense and I thought we went deep too much to start. Drew Willy neither looked here nor there, but he did survive his first hit. 1st quarter belonged to Montreal because they moved the ball better.
Once the subs starting coming in, the bombers took over. 13-3 Montreal - with 1st teams - the rest of the game? 33-0 bombers.
Simply put, our backups crushed their backups.
Led by the 3rd and 4th string QBs, the bombers steadily moved the ball and made watching the game a pleasure. Davis and Bennett got a good feel for playing a CFL game following a game plan that gave them alternate times to go in and show what could do. And show they did. Playing against second stringers was easier, no doubt, but it was good practice in live action. Brian who? Marve who?

Major announcement - we now have a running attack. Harris, Anderson and Flanders. When Anderson came in, it seemed to be a perfect complement to Harris. Anderson with his darting and cutting. But make no mistake, for the remaining time in the game, and all of the 4th quarter, it was Flanders field. He made it real tough to ignore giving him a spot somewhere with the bombers.
Play of the game - screen play to Harris. It had all the right ingredients for a great play - except for the penalty.
Play of the game, part 2 - that lovely loft pass by Bennett to Williams that resulted in a TD. Pass - very good, reception better. We don't always see plays like that.
    Individually speaking -
Castillo - just when you think he's going (missed his 1st attempt) he strikes for 4 non-too-easy FGs
Adrian Hubbard - the DE opposite Westerman? Could be..
Trent Corney - not a bad start for a rookie. He's going to be exciting.
Tony Burnett - was all over the field
Ryan Smith - going to be a good one for us.
    McDuffie - exciting and quick
    Addison Richards is real.
Ian Wild - what can I say? He flies all over the field and never seems to give up on a play.
Vertung? Don't know if he did enough.
Hardrick - can't say too much on his actual play, but he's a teamer! Lots of animation and energy!
Teague Sherman - was involved, in a good way.
    Khalil Bass - thank goodness.
    Westerman - guy doesn't quit.
    At first glance -
Bomber O-line had its moments, specifically staying relevant when Keeping went down, and with the subs playing, including Intzandt.
The players who had spot duty, such as Waggoner, Butcher, Loffler and such, represented themselves well.
Plug and play never looked so good.

Ok everyone, sorry it took so long but while we have sun that lawn needed a trim!
    From my eyes of course:
Buckner picked off willy 1st play of scrimmage and ran it back for a score. The defense is gelling together nicely, the boys are fired up. He may not take Randles job but he needs to be used on the field. Practiced with a lot of fire today. Maybe Randle moves to B Johnson's spot, he looked a little shaky on the plays I saw him on.   Few plays later Bass had a pick, this time of Nichols.   Oline breaking a number of runs through, really nice end around by R Smith, dude is a lot of fun to watch can't wait to see him on labour day!   McDuffie looks really good, a number of solid grabs in drills and scrimmage, I must be missing something because I can't see why a team would cut a guy like him. His hands are solid and he makes guys miss on special teams.   Harris very vocal when taking repsoff, big time leader... more gushing about him going to be huge for us this season and so on....   No way is medlock punting.... looks like Castillo may be out of a job... Pavlopoulos had a cpl 60+ boots.... a **** tonne of hang time. His first was a squib, I made the irrational decision to write him off and then 3 huge kicks with nice direction... wow.   Hurl made a really nice stop on Harris in the backfield, I don't know if it was solid instinct by Hurl or a missed assignment by OL but give credit where its due, he made a nice play.   Jesse Briggs.... he better be a demon on special teams this year because it's hard to believe he's going to beat out many of our other LB's or Canadians.   Darvin Adams...my man, made some really nice catches, Willy loves the guy, they are always talking giving each other props. He isn't going anywhere. But you can begin to see some standouts in WR corps. Besides the obvious, J Davis will make the team, Mayo had some nice catches, Talley look like they belong. Cone looks like one, Jean still can't catch worth blank, and doubt Bastien makes the club (we just have better options, no slight on the guy), and Richards still looks a little rough, but think he can turn things around once he feels more comfortable after rehab. I can't imagine him being on anything but the PR or IR to start season.   Who else....guys like Kearney looked comfortable, moves very stealthy broke some passes. Moe Leggett had a pick, looked like a stud, he hung out a bit with the other NFL guys today, looked like Wilson, Patrick are going to make it tough on the coach. These boys are always working...   Loffler was a lot of fun to watch today, he flies around the field.   Watched a little of the OL/DL one on ones and didn't see anyone really jump of the page besides Bryant.   Macho is terrible... nuff said.   Not really organized but thoughts throughout practice.

Chris randle isn't coming out of the lineup either. I would lean towards starting a second NI receiver in that scenario. I must say, that it feels really good to have Canadian options for a change.

Alright boys and girls, I was at practice today and I am sorry I am late but I got stuck at the office.....oh wait that was most of you
So here are some of my observations from today:
Coutier and Intzandt first OL, first ones on the field working on footwork. (Roommates, looking like they were helping each other out)   Intzandt really taking advantage of coach Wylie. One on one tutelage, he would have something explained and then show some of the IMP. He must have done a good job because Wylie gave him a couple taps on the lid, not in a discipline way.    Travis Bond is a friggin behemoth- Yes I know this has been said before but wow! Surprised they found a helmet for this guy.   Foketi looks like a real solid athlete, Jace Daniels better bring his A game because there are guys here who want it! Great scouting!   We have some really nice depth here... I can not see by any means other than an injury plague that we are running 3 imp on the OL, that is just ridiculous talk.    Flanders has really nice hands for an RB, was catching a number of passes.   Talley seems to struggle with the waggle, IMO he won't make it past the first cut.   Vitt is intriguing, really want to see him Crack the roster, strong work ethic.   Didn't see Hall talking to much, someone else was running the defensive calls and communicated well with the guys (Glen Young, Todd Howard maybe?)   Cobourne has his guys walking with some confidence, RB will be a really neat battle to watch next week to see if we hold onto 2 of these guys.   45 (CJ Wilson) is going to be a team leader. After practice was coaching 23 and 39. Helping them with reads. And then did some conditioning after. A true pro. Avon came by them and could here him from the sidelines telling them " I like the work, I like the work! Singleton was doing sprints on his own as well, then joined in on the conditioning after.    That's all I can think of off the top of head and my sad notes.   We have some hungry boys who want to play football this year guys, if you get even a little bit of a chance, check them out next week, it's going to be intense!

Trent Corney's rookie camp journal - Day 2
"I de-stress by doing push-ups in my room. That’s one of the reasons I gained a lot of weight in high school. I had bad anxiety in high school and started lifting and that’s how I got big.
So I was doing sets of 80 push-ups last night in my room. I did five sets of 80 and my last set was 90, just to see how many I could do. My chest is about to tear right now."
Just reading that made me tired.

For all we complain about how guys these days chase the money and have no loyalty, this is a guy who went out of his way to come back and retire wearing our colors and all you want to do is question why he'd do it?
