  1. Genetics do not determine athletic or intellectual performance, otherwise we would have a lot of hockey players named Richard, Mahovelich, Gretzky, etc etc and have our scientists all named Einstein, Feynman, Da Vinci and so forth. The only three generations of pro athletes are named Wilson. That Smith gene pool seems to be pumping out a lot of good ones...
  2. The designated import spot has now been replaced by the "wildlife" spot where teams will be allowed to roster either a bear, deer or moose. I would like to see a Moose lined up at DT... good luck stopping that... until they implement the "designated Ford F150 for O-line" rule... then it might be close...
  3. It's funny cuz it isn't just bitter Bomber fans or other CFL fans that are annoyed by this... I was talking to some family/friends recently who aren't even CFL fans and they wondered why saskies need to wear their rider gear everywhere... I guess we don't understand the insecurity of constantly having to remind everyone what team you cheer for...
  4. I'd say the last paragraph of the article sums it up... "If this season unfolds as they hope and he lights up defences while leading the club to the playoffs, they know they'll be held up for ransom by Willy's camp next winter. And that's a big, fat cheque they'd then be more willing to write."
  5. He stands 6'5" and weighs 215 lbs. Could be a FB for the Bombers. He worked out as a receiver and will do the same for the esks He has the athletic pedigree, and if he makes it in the CFL, maybe with the Bombers, it would be the second CFL/NHL brother combo. For a guy who didn't play any college football I find it hard to believe he is a CFL contender... if he was that good why didn't Dobie recruit him (or maybe he did and decided to play bball instead?)... this could just be a case of the name getting a try-out...
  6. I thought this thread might have to do with funny twitter accounts... as in the guy posts funny stuff... not just what their name is... I don't follow a lot of non-bombers... but Rob Maver is on exception... he's generally pretty entertaining...
  7. If there's one thing we've learned in Winnipeg... it's that media executives always make good CFL executives...
  8. I think Sheets will be looking for starter money and starter playing time.... once he realizes no team will be paying that... his demands will likely go down...
  9. For the record... I have no idea who "timeout" is... I just noticed he made one migs-esque post, then disappeared... seemed suspicious...
  10. Seem to recall they both were on CHI when they won. So Ladd has 2? Yes, Ladd has won with both Carolina and Chicago. The win with Carolina was his rookie season. Never underestimate having some one on a team who knows what it's like to win a cup. Was Frolik not on the Hawks during their last cup?... 3 guys with rings, better than none
  11. We definitely gotta worry about getting in first... Take it one game as a time, but I'd like to see 10 wins in the last 18, maybe throw in a couple OT losses and you're pushing 100 points... from there, anything could happen.... likely Anaheim or Nashville first round
  12. Most of what Jeff O'Neil says doesn't make much sense.... And yes I'm a Little late to Pardy on this.... but I would absolutely trade anyone on this Jets roster (or prospects like Ehlers, Petan) for the chance at 1st overall... one for one...
  13. I agree... the Argos sharing a stadium with Toronto FC would be beneficial to the club... I'm just not sure how that's relevant here...
  14. Saw on twitter yesterday he was working out with Rams RB Zac Stacey... if that counts for anything...
  15. I'm not sure why some people want to immediately write someone off as TCF... worst case scenario, he shows nothing and is released after camp.... no harm, no foul... best case scenario, he shows some promise and we keep him on the PR for development.... there is literally no risk for the team to bring in a buy like this...
  16. You think they keep all of them around? Unless Grigsby got some balls surgically added in the offseason he's not as good as the other two guys. Call me over sensitive but really beginning to think you don't like Grigsby. He gave us high hopes coming outta camp after.cottons injury... Then we realized he can't block, barely catch and is a lightweight when any contact happens... Any dislike is based upon his brutal season with us AND then blaming everyone but himself.. That's just incorrect... catching is one of the things he is good at... I believe there was even discussion around here about how effective is would be in the slot...
  17. Or at best a project... good National O-lineman are not unemployed
  18. Lamar and Bass both have prototypical CFL MLB size... so that's start... What's really exciting about Bass is that he appears to have grown three inches since his pro-day. http://www.nfldraftscout.com/ratings/dsprofile.php?pyid=90582&draftyear=2013&genpos=ILB Well that's just impressive... how could this kid not be a stud!
  19. Rider homerism seems to be at an all time high right now... via http://www.rodpedersen.com/2015/02/daytona-homes-monday-morning-goalie_23.html "THE WINNERS AND LOSERS: It's too early to crown a winner in 2015 CFL free agency but because we get all wrapped up in wins and losses, it's prudent to look at what's gone on so far. Clearly the Winnipeg Blue Bombers and Ottawa RedBlacks signed the MOST players and both clubs certainly upgraded their talent. Not coincidentally both franchises finished at the bottom of their respective divisions in 2014 so they had to do something. However, to me, the most intriguing free agent on the market was quarterback Kevin Glenn and I pointed that out on the SportsCage prior to the Feb 10 deadline. So given the fact he signed with Saskatchewan, you'd have to think the Riders are near the top when you're deciphering a free agency winner. Plus, they were able to retain all the players they were hoping to while the Calgary Stampeders were ravaged. It's also interesting to note that two-time Grey Cup champion with the Stampeders, Nik Lewis, is still floating around in free agent space. The Roughriders declared weeks ago that they have to interest in Lewis." To summarize... signing Kevin Glenn = winning in FA so far
  20. Lamar and Bass both have prototypical CFL MLB size... so that's start...
  21. The funny thing about Mack's draft history was he either picked players that were too good (Muamba, Bilikudi, Mulumba) or guys that weren't good enough (Pencer, Ettiene, Robertson, Poblah)... either way it didn't help the team.... American scouting is a different story...
  22. You're assuming the Riders could have kept Hurl. You can't force a player to re-sign and you can't assume the Riders "let him walk" either. It's certainly a possibility that Hurl told the Riders to sod off so he could try to follow Richie Hall here. Exactly. You can't "elect" to keep a pending free agent. From what I've read they did make an offer in an attempt to keep him. But everyone who ever plays for Sask never wants to leave b/c it's the holy land of the CFL... right???
