Well this is a confusing one... I feel the same way as when we re-signed Wilson... I like the player, but I don't see the fit
22 minutes ago, GCn20 said: JSK is an excellent WIL. I am not sure why people are unhappy about this? This literally guarantees that Wilson will be a teamer. This upgrades our LBer corps big time.
and this is what makes it even more confusing... JSK is a better WIL... Ayers is a better teamer.... Woodbey is a better "utility" player... Jones still stays at MLB... Shay and Smith need to start getting some playing time... why is Wilson here??

according to the Bombers site... the only DL at 6'7 is Willie... unless there are some guys not listed yet...

are you reinventing the wheel... or just making the three LB positions the way they were 15 years ago?

Top 5
Bighill
Strev/Woogie
Matty Ice
Collaros
Stan/Yosh
I hate to be a stickler... but this is clearly a top 7 😉
I'll go: Stan, Biggie, Collaros, Harris, Yoshi... had to make a few tough decisions to follow the rules (Jeffcoat and Willie, for example)...

They also improved cdn depth slightly by signing Nield (more than slightly) and grabbed a realiable veteran cornerback. The only question mark with the bombers Is backup qb but options appear limited. Bombers signed all their important free agents and every one is well minus Kyrie Wilson but if the worst move is signing Kyrie who is a solid veteran leader to a 1 year deal. Then yeah bombers are winners
Losers = Hamilton and Saskatchewan ( they lost the most players) maybe Toronto also as losing RD and McManiss is 2 huge losses.
The rest id keep in the neutral to stayed the same category.
I know you mentioned Ottawa but didn't really get into details... they had a really nice FA period adding Allen, Reavis, Eberhardt... but their biggest addition was getting Dinwiddie

McManis hasn't agreed to terms in Hamilton yet has he?
No room for him really but he's a baller.
I highly doubt the Bombers would do this... but I would drop Jones and Wilson in a heartbeat if we had a chance to sign McManis... I'd start McManis at MLB and Ayers at WIL... the money would be close to even that way and the production would probably be better

Jury is out on our C until he proves himself, but our OGs need not worry much about OTs.
I highly doubt Randolph displaces Stan/Broxton at OT. He probably plays inside over Vanderpool.
54 minutes ago, GCn20 said:I don't see one of Vanterpool, or Randolph starting. Stan is the GOAT and Stan will start, It's quite possible neither of the aforementioned start. Stan doesn't need a resurgence, He is no longer the best OT in the league, but he is still really good.
totally agree that Stan is a legend and he'll likely play... but he's a downgrade from Broxton at LT... switching to RT, I'd be hard pressed to think he'd be better than Randolph... and he's never played inside, so likely a downgrade from Vanderpool...
I still think he'll play... I'm just interested to see how it shakes out... for the record (I haven't purchased it yet) Bryant #66 is going to be my next jersey, if you're questioning how I feel about the GOAT... 😁

I genuinely wonder about where Big Stan fits in... if you consider a potential starting line up of Broxton-Vanderpool-Eli-Paddy-Randolph.... where does Stan play that makes this group better?... Could he dress as a DI and play TE on 6-man sets?.... that would be an easy way to count him as a DA

Uhh, no. Sorry. I post a lot here. So, unless you can give me better context than that I have no idea what you're talking about.
To me, Dunk is a Ti Cat fan. As a fan that's who he wants them to sign more than anthing. Remember when Dunk used to call the Ti Cats the CFL's "Super Team" & then we'd hand their asses back to them in the 2019 & 21 Grey Cups?
you're right, you do post a lot and it would be almost impossible for me to find something from over a year ago... but the context was basically that he took responsibility for not having the team ready prior to a loss... you (and others) said just taking responsibility wasn't good enough and that he should resign if he really meant it... I'll admit, I can't remember if it was resign or be fired
And yes, we all took great pleasure in beating the piss out of Dunk's super team, lol... that's one thing we'll never disagree about 😄

Yes, it would definitely have helped. No way of knowing what kind of contributions he may have made. He actually stayed healthy last year and was by far, the best receiver in the league. Hard to come with a reason that wouldn't have helped. You say "wow what a catch by Kenny Lawler" like it's a bad thing. Those kind of grabs change games.
you're right... signing Lawler would've added a few "wow" moments to our offense... having him may have led to more points and maybe an extra win... but his presence wouldn't have fixed our OL issues or DL issues or overall ineptitude of our offense... what's done is done... last year is a throw away (IMO) and let's look forward to getting back this year....

Ceresna is a better DE... and he's not even a DE, lol... I have no hate for Vaughters, he was OK last year... he would probably benefit from playing across from a star... and I'm not sure he'll have that in his new home
6 minutes ago, SpeedFlex27 said:Do you remember just how bad & undisciplined the Riders were under Craig Dickenson? He stood up for Garrett Marino who was a thug on the field & run out of the league. Duke Williams spit on an Argo & while injured off the Rider roster that same season took a swing at a Blue Bomber who ran out of bounds at the Rider bench right beside Dickenson. I don't recall much of a controversy at Mace's media conference when he was hired as Rider HC. Or if he even said that.
Players should have to make the team on merit. Not entitlement. We've seen that going on here for 12 years. We lost our fair share of players over the past 3 off seasons leading up to this one. The flip side is if you keep playing OTH veterans like Thomas & Kolankowski it creates a log jam & younger players who deserve it can't get on the field. They end up leaving at the end of their contract anyway. The older players keep signing because they want to keep playing & know that anywhere else they'd be cut. So, they re-sign these loyalty "cap friendly" deals.
I don't get your criticism of Mace. He's just doing his job.
remember not that long ago you were saying Mace should be fired for taking responsibility for a loss??

As much as some people want to hate on Coach O'Shea... his reputation around the league is unmatched... and I guarantee some of those guys signed because of him

Especially when we don't even know if Winnipeg had any interest in Mack. That being said I would have preferred Mack, but White is outstanding at keeping the opposing defensive backfield off balance. The cannot lose track of him and he is very good at slipping out of coverage. What he does opens other guys up as well. He and Demski are both very good at that. Now we just need a legit 50/50 guy.
3 or 4 days ago there were 3 top WRs about to hit the market... all three are now signed and we landed one of them... some people are going to complain we didn't get the best one... but I think the reality is the other two probably weren't realistically coming here... I am happy we went out and got a legit talent.
22 hours ago, Tracker said:The reality is that Demski has a lot more days behind him than in front of him and he is getting dinged more often and needs longer and longer times to rebound. Tre Ford ought to be a natural replacement.
Ford the QB is a natural replacement for Demski the slotback?... I might agree if Ford gave any indication he was willing/interesting in switching positions...

White is a good signing... gives us a nice top 3 in Pokey-Demski-White (in whatever order you choose)... as others have mentioned... I would also like to see an under-the-radar/under utilized guy like Shamar Bridges or Joe Robustetelli added to the group... maybe given more opportunities, one of those guys could emerge as the "next guy"....

I wish I had your faith in Eli but I don't. Hope I'm wrong.
to me, it's one of two things... either the Eli boosters here are just wrong... or maybe he is a better C but the team valued his ability as the sixth man higher because Kolo would be even more useless if he was anything other than C...

This seems like a not good move when you've got Shay and Smith needing reps....
Not to mention Ayers and Woodbey...
I hate this signing... not that I don't like Kyrie Wilson... because he has given us some really quality years.... I just hate the idea of playing a 33 year old (let's be honest, he's starting at WIL) on the down side of his career when we have multiple ealry to mid 20s guys ready to play and needing reps... just doesn't make any sense to me

I’d agree with this. Maybe Woods to compete would be ok. Makonzo hasn’t played in a long time and when he last played he got hurt, because of his Canadian status I’d prob bring him to camp but at this point not expecting him to stay healthy
I agree there are a few players that would be OK to bring back... but none are "must sign" in my opinion.
-
At this point, I think we've brought back the right vets and released/not signed the right players... looking at our list of FAs, there aren't any more "must signs" on the list... Makonzo is an intriguing player that I would like to actually see play... but other than him, no one on that list needs to be back

Looking at the BB free agent list...I'm not sure there's anyone left we really NEED to sign. Is there anyone who you think we should sign? Successful offseason thus far. Time to start looking at other teams' free agents IMO. I'm still thinking Brissett from Toronto would be a great add.
agreed... I still think Willie and Big Stan will be back... please give me one big addition to the OL and DL in FA... but otherwise we've signed the guys that needed to be signed and released the guys that need to be released... so far, so good.

Is Pokey really the only American vet receiver we have on the roster right now?...
I was thinking about Schoen recently... I wonder if the team would try to bring him back on a cheap deal... he sits on the 6-game for likely 2/3 of the season... worst case scenario, rehab doesn't go too well, he doesn't play, doesn't cost the team much.... best case scenario, his recovery goes well, he's ready to play around Labour day, and we've added a weapon for the stretch drive... seems like a win-win to me...

I think its time to move on from Jefferson. He's going to be 35, he's had declining production the past two seasons, he takes plays off and he costs too much money. Too be honest, he seems to get a pass from many here, while other players don't.
I think it has to do with the fact that a DE can take on a lesser role... when you're talking about aging vets at S, LT, MLB, and QB... those are guys taking 100% of snaps... an aging DE can be employed in a lesser role as a rotational player... I believe that's where most of us see him now...
9 hours ago, GCn20 said:The overwhelming majority of position coaches in our league are ex-players who retired and had zero coaching experience beforehand. Your complaint is unfounded. Jake's not our DC for cripes sakes.
You can count the winning HCs of 4 out of the last 5 Grey Cups among them
Osh, Mace, and Dinwiddie all retired and went straight into coaching.
This is probably nothing more than a gut feeling... but Jake strikes me as exactly the kind of guy that was an average/below average player but will make a great coach... Also, O'Shea did go straight into coaching... I believe he was in a sales gig when Toronto brought him in to coach ST.... but point still stands
24 minutes ago, Tracker said:Those players who successfully transitioned into coaching were good at their positions, and Thomas was barely adequate when at his best and had no techique except bull-rushing. When that failed, he simply stood there and hoped the play would come to him. In the last couple of years, standing there was his go-to technique.
I'm confused.... do you genuinely think this is true?... there's literally dozens, if not hundreds, of examples of bad players who have made great coaches...
