What people aren't understanding is that a QB must have the fundamentals to play the game at the pro level. Just because some QBs took years to develop, it wasn't because of their fundamentals. They were working on their understanding of the game and ability to manage it. Durant, Reilly, Burris, Glenn, Calvillo all have one thing in common. A good accurate arm with a quick release. This is why they rose to the top. In pro sports you can't teach a player how to throw. He either knows that by now, or he's gone. Marve struggles with his accuracy, and he is a fundamentally poor thrower of the ball.

Here we go with the "Anthony Calvillo" nugget about how he took years to develop. For every AC there are a hundred QBs that legitimately wash out of this league. Not all can be coddled and brought along for years waiting for them to emerge. The reason AC, and I watched his early career, lasted as long as he did was because his fundamentals were off the charts. He just struggled making his reads early in his career. Completely different story, from Marve, who has many fundamental problems with his game.

A lot. Just the terminology alone would make it impossible for him to start this week. Even starting the LDC on anything more than a skeleton playbook will be highly optimistic. He needs reps with the first team offence, and some deep immersion in the playbook. He will not have anywhere close to the full offence at his command within the next 3 weeks.
It is laughable to think he could play this weekend unless we go sandlot and reduce our passing playbook to a few plays. There is zero chance he would have half the playbook at his command by this weekend.

Sounds about right to me. 150k would put him on par with what Hall is making with the Riders and would still be 50k a year cheaper than John Chick.

I think that Simmons is being over rated by many on this forum. Last year in Orrawa he was the best of a very bad lot, but it's pretty obvious that on a team with talent he is depth. Hopefully, he can play himself onto the 44 man and help us down the stretch, but people shouldn't be crying foul because he hasn't done so in his first week.

Some pretty interesting stuff in this video. I recommend anyone interested in what scouts do and what they look for to give it a listen. Takes a couple pretty good jabs at his former CFL employer, and talks a bit about some of the players he recruited for us.

No kidding. SMH. The logic shown by some in this thread is disturbing. The fact that the Riders lost some close games makes them better than us, but they fail to recollect that we have 3 games this year that we lost in the final minute of the game. How you can give an 0-8 team more credit for close losses than a 3-5 team is beyond me.

We haven't had a great running back since early in Fred Reid's time here. In a way I don't mind the RB carousel going around until we find one.

Anyway, back to the discussion. I think we should sit all our current starters on Saturday. I believe some of them may be banged up from playing football. It would be poor coaching to not give them all a break. (sarcastica)
 
What a poorly conceived and thought out train of thought. Rest our healthy franchise QB that we are paying 20k a game for, even though he has been medically cleared and played like an allstar that game. Clearly a bad coaching decision to...you know..play him and win the game.

Yea..no question about it. I think the same could be said for most of the teams in the CFL this year. The only team that's looking really good this year is Hamilton, and the only team that is looking really bad is the Riders.
