If Jones hits FA, Taman won't be the only one driving up the price.

He is a nice kid, he went to high school with my daughter. I hope he gets a great opportunity. He is 23 and will be a good player for a long time in this league. I'd be lying if I said I wouldn't love to see him come back home and play here. I have a feeling that he will stay in Calgary. Huff is anything but dumb, he can see what he has in Jones. I can see the Stamps being very aggressive in trying to keep him.

I've been having the same thought.  Unless an NFL offer comes in I could see this happening.  The Riders have lost two starters on their oline and I'm sure they would like to replace them with quality players, and I'm unsure how good their backups are.  Maybe they would be in on Bryant or Harrison from Calgary as well? I know those two are Americans but Heenan leaves a big hole at tackle for the Riders.  Gotta figure the Riders have some money freed up now with both Heenan and Picard gone.  And of course Jones is a Sask boy and we all know it's every Sask boy's dream to go home and play for the Riders at some point in their career  .

From Calgary's POV Jones is a fantastic player and tough to lose but they have Lavertu ready to step up if Jones moves on.  Calgary always seems to handle losing top end players just fine.

I would be surprised if Taman wasn't active in free agency.  He rarely if ever sits it out.

Anyone else think maybe Brett Jones is going to Sask? And that's one of the reasons Picard was expendable?

Loved Cory Watson when he was on the field .. epitomized the way this game should be played .. best of luck to Cory going forward.

That said .. I think we made out like bandits in this trade.

very good move by Walters, he is earning his stripes as a G.M. He has a good handle on the Salary cap management and has it set up to retain core guys longterm, creating stability.

We just secured 4 picks in the top 20 of probably one of the stronger drafts in years where we could realistically see 3 draftees make the game day roster.

He's created cap room for a big splash in free agency and if cards fall into place as they just may now, we may be in a position in one full swoop of an off-season solve O-Line issues, ratio and Canadian depth issues and allow us to more than likely play 4 import receivers, or possibly an all american d-line

Brohm is trying to land an NFL gig. If that doesn't work out I coukd see BC amongst other teams showing interest. I have a feeling he won't be back with the Bombers, which is too bad because he really impressed me.

Certainly an interesting read, and I liked the format he used for grades.  Although based on the grade definitions he gave I think Volny and Ettiene are 2's rather than 1's, but that's largely inconsequential.

One thing I think is inaccurate is the assertion that Volny doesn't play much special teams, drawn from the fact that he has only 5 ST tackles in his career.  There are 6 different special teams units.  Only 2 of those 6 commonly involve tackling.  Although I don't watch for Volny every time special teams steps on the field, I know he is a fixture on the front line of our kickoff returns, and am fairly certain he is on the field for all punt returns as well.

And I would be curious to know the source of his assertion that Mack drafted Ettiene at the behest of LaPolice.  I don't dispute it, but if it's just something that's been out there for a while, I must have missed it.

When you don't practice Inside Run once during the season there's no excuse. Unbelievable. I knew Etch was bad but I had no idea truly how bad he was. Thing is, where was MOS all this time? is he so blind he couldn't see what was/wasn't going on in practice?? How could he let that kind of thing happen??

In all honesty I believe the ineptitude of the offence is what finally did Etch in.  If they could have moved the ball marginally well in the second half of the season Etch's poor scheme may not have been exposed as badly as it was.

Doublezero reacted to Mr Dee in Buck Pierce as Bombers QB Coach?
The QB coaching issue will be looked at carefully, no doubt, as that remains a huge part of our game going forward.
This is a pivotal year for Drew Willy.
He no longer has the benefit of '1st year QB label' to fall back on.
Hopefully he can work with whomever is named as QB coach whether it's still Dahlquist or Khari…and Khari would be nice.
But let's remember that a QB coach can't teach a QB pocket presence and that's what Willy has to re-establish if he's going to remain #1.

Willy's "awareness", in the pocket, wasn't great to begin with, and it suffered greatly as the year went on.
Hence…he contributed to his own sack fate.
Hopefully Willy is rejuvenated, this spring, and he and MB mesh with an improved offence.

Will Tedford try to wedge in some American systems or try to coach like it is still 1990 in the CFL?  Or will he be abreast of the latest CFL trends, demonstrating dynamism and boldness in his approach?  The answer lies in the future.

    Only time will tell.

Stats don't tell the whole story obviously but an interesting one is that we were 9th in the league, dead last in terms of points against.

On O we averaged about 22.05 points for per game, on D we average about 26.7 points against per game.

There were 4 teams who scored 400 or more points for, Calgary, Edmonton,Toronto and Hamilton <-- in that order too of points scored per game

The rest goes SASK WPG BC MTL OTT

Sask had 399 points scored, Wpg 397 points scored.

Our O was kind of middle of the pack really, Our D tho was dead last.

My problem with MB is multifold. His track record as an OC is well below average. He didn't excel as OC in Mtl in 2007 the year Calvillo was pummelled into the ground and left early, injured, to be with his wife who had cancer. That year, with Bellefeuille as OC, Calvillo was sacked 50 times in 13 starts. The Als gave up 68 sacks that year, which was a CFL high. That was with a decent O-line. Now that Bellefueille's here, same thing - Bombers gave up more than 70 sacks last year, most ever for the Bombers. Calvillo and Willy are similar pocket passers and MB seems incapable of designing an offence that will offer protection for that style of QB, or take the pressure off the QB with appropriate play calling. The offensive stats - the ones that count, were abysmal for Winnipeg last year - again. For example, Winnipeg's touchdown percentage was 2.6%, second worst in the league ahead of only Ottawa. We were 7th in most offensive stats - among the lowest in terms of touchdowns scored, total yards per game and most 2 + outs. We seem not to have a screen pass, draw play or any other play designed to relieve heat on the QB. This isn't rocket science. Bellefueille also made some questionable personnel decisions, same things he took heat for in Montreal. Why did he stick with an ineffective Grigsby so long at the tailback position when Cotton, who showed better at TC, was waiting in the wings and when he did come in proved to be more capable? To me, that's judgment, or lack thereof, or maybe he just relying on the advice of RB coach Buck Pierce - which, if so, is another story in itself. I'm also astounded that Bellefueille allowed Drew Willy to get pounded as much as he did, which does nothing for a rookie QB's confidence. Willy had happy feet for a few games in the last 1/3 of the season and I blame Bellefueille for that, too. I could go on and on ... Bottom line: Miller Walters OShea don't know much about offence - so they are completely delegating | deferring to Bellefueille, at their own peril.
