Pretty sure there was the same reaction when Mack was hired by some. Not worried. Imwt and all that.
Walters seems like a good football man to have in the organization, but i fail to see how he is any bit qualified to handle such an enormous task as transforming a horrible team that has been mostly crap since 2008 into a highly competitive team that push for division champions each year.
Cis coach to shitty st coach to assistant GM to intermin GM, Not seeing the cfl experience in building a great team from the dog pile we currently are. Sure he has CIs experience but how does that translate into the cfl?
I rather someone like Higgins or someone with similar amounts of experience helping manage teams that have turned from crap into top 4 teams in the league.
Settling with Walters May turn out to be great, but i don't understand our perpetual gravitation to rookie management hires..

I don't mind Walters getting a shot, I just think that right now given what this team has gone through since 2009 a more experienced person would have looked better. Now granted there maybe aren't a lot of those guys available, the optics of this looks kinda iffy. 

This. Plus it has to be worrisome that we take a poor ST Coach and make him GM in the space of a year.

What other winning cfl football teams have the CEO making football operation decisions beyond selecting the GM ?
The bombers have been horrible, top to bottom for the last 5 years.. We need to start follow winning examples from around the league....
Try radical coaching and GM experiments have consistently failed going back to rienbold, Kelly, Burke and Mack and even buck (player moves). So maybe they should stop and go " hmmm. Maybe we are the issue and should build the team with experienced cfl coaches and management teams"

The whole building for the future mantra is super annoying to me. We have been building for the future for the last 4 years by getting younger players with "potential" and we are getting progressively worse.
We need to build for being a good team now and next season. Once u fix the current problems and field a competitive team each week then we can start building for the future. With a weak base / foundation u can't build on it for the long term.
Mack was trying to bring in young talented guys and missed the boat by taking flyers on veterans or cfl experience players that could make an immediate improvement to our team and seemingly decide to wait for the green player to turn into all stars and lead the team to greatness.
Hopefully this is all changing now with Walters and whoever is hired to replace Mack and Burke. They have focus solely on making this team competitive immediately and address the weakest links like the oline and coaching and once progress is made start addressing longer term/future depth with younger players. Then and only then can they groom players to take over when starters start the down side of their careers.
Free agents are going to flow towards the teams willing to play them more and if we hire experienced cfl coaches and management then our gong show going on this year will be a secondary thought for free agents.

Well.. Something I don't get is that no one is going to want to come here as a GM if Miller will be meddling. Not sure I agree. A GM will sign on for three years and build the team as they see fit. Miller can ***** all he wants but his hands are tied other then perhaps laying out a budget for personnel and coaching staffs. miller is not going to be able to fire the GM in the first or second year due to finacial hardships to pay out the contract and the optics of it all.
Which brings me to my second point. Any GM is going to get a 3 year contract, presumably, and be set with a steady income with the upside that they can transform a truly horrible team into something really competive. If they get fired they take a hit to their ego and continued to get paid.
Pro sport are very competitive and so are all the player, coaching and management staffs. They All want to show what they can do to the rest of the league.
Walters May be okay but it will only reinforce to the fan base and the rest of the league that the bombers are a joke and continue to promote people from within that are already part of the problem. If they weren't the team would be doing alot better.

But why would u want someone to be a coach if they have no drive to do so?
He could tank the teams he is coaching and force their hand

Burke is way out of his league.  
 
Admittedly i thinks its fairly obvious we don't have the talent to be the best team in the league, but with essentially the same players Lapo had alot better success.
 
Part of Me thinks that Mack Handcuffed Burke by forcing who starts at QB and ignoring the issues with the O-line.  But Burke's in game decisions have lead to a few losses as well as calling out players and then retracting it later shows, to me atleast, that is is not the HC this team needs.
 
We need a HC with experience and the ability to deal with adversity as well as the ability to recongnize what isn't working and fix it.  We Need a HC that can allow the players they do have to accel and create and enviroment in which they can grow and reach their potential.
 
Burke hasn't shown us any of this so far.

And I did say in my post that there's really not much a guy can do taking over midway to convince me one way or the other. GMs really are judged by what they do in the offseason leading into a season. Every GM out there makes some good tweaks when a team is 1-a pile in the standings so just because there's a new receiver making some catches or whatever doesn't really mean a whole lot in the big picture. You want to know if the guy can prove himself with the remainder of this season? I just don't think he can unless he somehow gets us Ricky Ray.

Henoc assuming he's under contract or coming close to a contract will be protected, there's one guy protected.
now we've got 5 spots left, to me the choice is between giving up a lineman or a reciever, in my mind we have a little more depth at reciever than we do O-line (especially considering we have Aprile, Dicroce, & Alli all in the pipeline). So assuming there aren't going to be many options at O line in free agency, are we basically handcuffed into protecting our O-line starters? 
So Henoc, Sorenson, Greaves, Swiston. and now you've got two spots left to protect Kohlert, Etienne, Watson, Palardy, Deangelis, Pencer, Renaud, Cauchy, Poblah or any other NI you deem worthy.
I would probably protect Kohlert over Watson, as he's 4 years younger and hasn't shown any injury problems. So basically right now that means that Watson is probably your 6th pick to protect. So at this point Watson and the guys on the outside looking in are basically competing for that last spot. 

This has been a major problem with the team since Mack arrived, players being handed starting roles without having earned them by beating out the incumbent. That is why all teams have a #1 QB until the next guy steps in and takes his job, nobody has taken the #1 job from Pierce and until someone does, he should still be #1. Same goes for every other starting position on the team. It's going to take time to correct the damage done by Mack but it will come.
