  1. Maybe Bucknor wouldn't get beat for 60 yard post pattern touchdowns every second game if we had more than one guy who could rush the passer?
  2. The Phaneuf trade really sucks for the CFL. Say goodbye to any coverage in the first 52 minutes of SportsCentre.
  3. I've watched that clip a million times. I wasn't that old in 84 but I was old enough to feel the weight of that drought. That game would rank in my top 5 sports fan moments even now. Ahead of even the Grey Cup in 84 because I knew we would win that game. maybe even ahead of the Cup wins in 88 and 90 which I made the mistake of believing were becoming routine.
  4. I would love to see the 84 West Final in its entirety. One of the highlights of my youth.
  5. The whole situation is such a perfect metaphor for the modern Bombers. The league makes a rule change to make converts a little less automatic. It should affect every team equally. In fact, it should favour us because we have a promising young kicker who surely will be 97% or so from 32 years. So early in the season he misses a few. It indirectly costs us a game. Everybody gets on him. But he's still making field goals so it's cool. But now he starts missing field goals and now the media and fans are all over him. I'm no expert but I think confidence is probably pretty important to field goal kickers. Eventually, the Edmonton game comes along and he loses his job and we are running him out of town. Next step is he goes somewhere else, rediscovers his stroke, wins a couple awards, our new kickers suck, and four years from now we are on this board talking about how we should target him in free agency.
  6. I think when they initially set the prices at IGF they were working more on an American model or maybe the Jets/hockey model where "closer equals better." But you can see from where the empty seats are that those tickets are overpriced. As the years have progressed they have worked to slowly rectify the situation. Even as prices rose elsewhere they actually went down in the end zone. At least for seasons tickets members. There is no doubt the view is better from higher up on the sidelines. Even in the corners of the upper deck you get a better view than from the endzone. Having said that my tickets are in the end zone. Section 140 Row 21. Even though I'm a little old to party with the guys that sit down low I prefer the atmosphere in that part of the stadium. Also, my 11 year old loves to go down and beak the opposing team as they enter/exit the filed. As for the original question no I don't think it causes people to stay home because there are sideline seats available for every game. If you're looking for like $10 endzone seats like the old days and trying to fill the stadium that way it's just not going to happen. You might get a few more people in the park but that just devalues every other seat in the stadium.
  7. The thing about one off fluke winning seasons is you don't know they are one offs until at least a year later. If the Bombers go 11-7 next year you know we will all be proclaiming it the beginning of a dynasty and you best believe the WSF will be sold out.
  8. As a fan of the football team I would say he hasn't done a great job. As a customer of the football club and season ticket holder I think he's done a great job of improving customer relations and the in-stadium experience. It's not always flawless but before he got there I felt like the team believed it was doing me a favour by letting me attend their games.
  9. I thought of the Bombers the minute I saw that.
  10. I sit in the end zone near the rum hut. Worry not there are lots of fans under 30 at those games. The league is in greater long term peril than the Bombers are.
  11. The Bombers are my emotionally abusive life partner. I should leave but I can't.
  12. This is the most depressing time of the year. The whole "we are only 2 points behind some team that is almost as pathetic as we are and if we win 3 of the next 4 (even though we have won 3 of the last 13) we could sneak into third place and get beat like a prison ***** in the semi final" phase of the season. And the worst part is it's an annual tradition.
  13. Or I vote for mixing up tradition and have a comedian at half time show joke about how the first half went with no one immune to his observations.Russel Peters comes to mind :-) How about The John Hufnagel Roast?
  14. I had tickets to both. Sold the Jets tix and am going to the Bombers game. So I guess I #believeinblue The fact the Bomber tickets were basically unsellable and the Jets game is preseason had nothing to do with the decision. Nothing at all.
  15. What does 2nd place get? Some kind of car or something?
  16. That might be the biggest lie ever told on this website. You clearly Do Not like Postma.
  17. I hope they move Turner back to being lead sports columnist and not Wicek. Or maybe now that Ed T has a couple years making NHL contacts to go with his football cred they will feel he's ready to take the big byline. I'd love to see that. He has that rare ability to criticize the home team without enraging the fan base. But then again I guess enraging the fan base is at least a little bit a part of the job.
  18. In Rod Petersons mind coaching the Riders is a better coaching job than being an NFL OC. Best fans in the world and all that.
  19. John Murphy was at least partially responsible for the SwaggerVille defence that made Joe Mack look not totally incompetent for an entire year. And that's not easy to do. I guess before I endorsed him to the degree some others are willing to do id want to know everything he does in Calgary. American recruitment is only part of the job of being a true CFL GM. If he has people skill issues that's a real thing. Want a stone cold guarantee of being a top 4 team by 2018. Hire Eric Tillman. It's a deal with the devil for sure and would require a lot of PR. But unless you're giving Murphy credit for EVERYTHING that's gone right in Calgary (and some of you are) then Tillman is the only proven candidate out there. start flaming... Now.
  20. I don't get the thing where they are lumped in together. Three totally different roles and three totally different situations. Miller... I know he's seen as part of football ops and I'm sure to a large extent he is. But remember his job is CEO. And not to insult you by stating the obvious but that's pretty far removed from being responsible for Nic Demski's punt return. Remember four years ago when the team sucked on and off the field? We spent more time here debating stadium security policies then we did the backup quarterbacks. Which considering Bomber fans obession with backup quarterbacks is really saying something. In my opinion the club has made gigantic strides since Wade took over in off field areas. Including and especially customer service. The in stadium experience is much improved (obviously helped by the new stadium). I think the guy"gets it". Walters... This one is tougher. General Managers are usually going to get more than two full seasons to turn a ship around. Obviously the results haven't been great. But I think the days of the one season turnaround in the CFL are over. Sometimes the results seem to come quickly but that's after a lot of paddling has gone on beneath era the surface that we don't see. ( neg list rejuvenation for one). I'm very much undecided on Kyle. But who's going to replace him if he's gone? Either Taman or some other teams unproven AGM type. Then you start the rebuild all over. I would be inclined to give him another year. O'Shea... It's not looking good. It's not just that they're losing it's the way they lose. Mostly blow outs and self destruction in close games. Mike is supposed to be so mentally solid but his team is as tough as a wet marshmallow. Just looks at the way the collapsed in the games Willy left with injury. Sucking because the backup QB is lousy is on Walters. Completely disintegrating is on Mike. I really feel Mike is coaching for his job from here on out. Getting to 8 or 9 wins and finding that playoff spot is huge for him. My complete and total guess is the 6-12 or 7-11 would leave him vulnerable. One mans opinions.
  21. How is it hard earned? He wasnt scouted by us.. By your thought process.. Nichols is a garbage bag until proven otherwise because hes a bomber.. How you can just assume hes gonna suck because hes associated to us is really crazy. The kids got tons of potential. Lots of positive reasons to be even luke warm to this move.. Not to mention the most it could cost us is a 4-6 rounder.. Where to start. He wasn't scouted by us. Well I hope we scouted him because we traded for him. And the fact Hamilton gave him to us for nothing doesn't speak too highly for their opinion of him. We chose to bring him up here. Whether that was straight off our neg list or through a trade and bringing him up to me is semantics. Now comes the part where we have to develop him. Which pretty much spells guaranteed doom. He's got nothing to do with Matt Nichols. Two entIrely different situations. Trading for third stringers is one thing. Identifying quarterback talent and nurturing it is something else. And it's something the Bombers have been cursed in any attempts to do for more than a generation.
  22. I know this is a douchy negation opinion but it's hard earned: I'm pretty much going to assume he sucks until proven otherwise.
  23. There will be a few quality back up QBs available in the off season. There aren't any other Henoc Muambas.
  24. Huff comes available this offseason but we are committed to Walters and Osh. Huff goes to Riders and dominates for the next decade. Walters and Osh get fired 7 games into next season. It's the Bomber way. see: Kent Austin goes to Hamilton in 2013 but we already have Joe Mack.
  25. With our O Line and Matt's history I could also see Nichols being out for the season with a knee injury about 17 seconds into the first quarter on Saturday.
