I don't know how many of the anti-socer people watched the last Olympics but the Canadian women were phenomenal. They play a very tough, physical brand and did this country proud . It's training camp , and the up to 3000 people will have to give way to a packed, world event taking place in our city.Socer is the most popular sport in the world and in Canada. Set aside your aversions to a sport you just don't understand or is not your cup of tea and support the fact that Winnipeg scooped this major event.

What would you like them to do?  Spend a bunch of money for a couple dozen fans?  That's usually the amount of people who aren't Bomber employees or people who are supposedly covering the team for local media at the TC practices I've been to other than the opening full practice which they've made into an event in recent years.  Let's apply some logic and rational thinking here.

Personally, I thought they should have dropped the field turf into University Stadium and used that for local football as there is a huge shortage of adequate facilities.  That would have worked out perfectly for Bomber training camp when they can't be in IGF.

    Absolutely right.
This is a huge snag for Winnipeg' sports community due to its popularity, and it will make great use of this facility.
    Win-win for Winnipeg.
This event should be applauded by the city...even though it does displace our favorite team.

I recall going to St John's Ravenscourt and sitting on the hill to watch. Jim Spavitol the coach with a really small RB trying out for the Bombers. We all said he will get killed....Mack Herron proved us wrong.

    Based on what?  Name recognition?

I'll hazard a guess that there wasn't a moment last night where Walters said "Not that guy, his talent level is too high".

The problem every year is people form strong opinions on players they know next to nothing about, based almost entirely on a Duane Forde column, and then spend 2 months shaping his thought-farts into fools gold.

Did Walters evaluate the players correctly?  We won't know for a while, but I have no problems with his evaluations being different from Forde's.  They'd better be, otherwise anyone could do his job.  Walters did not do what I expected, but I also have enough sense to know my expectations aren't based on much of anything other than being part of a fan site.

Here's the thing, it doesn't really matter what I think.  It's what the GM of the Bombers thinks.  Personally, I think that this was the right move for a lot of reasons.  Firstly, it tells Willy that the organization has confidence in him and believes that he can be the future for us.  It also sends the rest of the team a message that the club is serious about getting things done and removing any possible distractions.  It also says to everyone that the days of nickel and dime tactics are behind us.  We'll pay the going freight, so if you perform, you'll get the coin.

We call all those things "optics" and guess what?  They matter.

Vega just didn't produce enough, he had a really poor season.  Morley was just a matter of time.

I still don't get all the Greg Peach hate here.  I expect him to start and have another career season, likely will hit double digits in sacks if he stays healthy.

We've heard pretty well everything that has been said in this blog but it's good to hear that Wade Miller 'gets it' and is willing to spend money to make the org. more professional and is not just a cog in the wheel of the Bomber good ole boys.

But this talk of fluff is kind of ridiculous.
This is a good news story that has merit and should be presented to the fans any way it can get out there.

I wouldn't expect O'Shea or Walters to pump their own tires, so it should fall to their PR. guy and what the hell is wrong with that?
We should be so lucky that we're fully involved in Free Agency when it was necessary, and that they succeeded in the getting the players they targeted.

Good grief, I can remember Free Agency coming and going with nary a word of Bomber involvement and Bomber news was such that a PR guy wasn't even necessary.

If this is considered fluff, then give me more because that means we're actually doing something and things are progressing out there.
Much better than it the dark days when we didn't even know what the H the GM was doing.

average:  a number expressing the central or typical value in a set of data, in particular the mode, median, or (most commonly) the mean, which is calculated by dividing the sum of the values in the set by their number.

The average fan does not check this site multiple times a day and obsess over coaches and announcements.  The obsessive or hard core fan does.  Face it, those of us that obsess at sites like this are not “normal”.  And there is nothing wrong with that.

The Bombers know that they don’t have to try very hard to get the attention and money of the hard core fan.  They do have to try harder to get to the average fan.  This is why announcements in the off season are often strategically scheduled to get the Bombers name out into the news at regular times, and not necessarily the minute a signing is a done deal.

It doesn’t mean they don’t appreciate the hard core fan or are trying to upset them.  They are just doing what a smart organization does to remain in the conscience of a wider fan base.

And yes, those people are real fans.  They spend money on season tickets and merchandise just like hard core fans else (maybe not as much on a per fan basis, but they spend more money as a group).  If the only fan this organization had was the hard core fan, it wouldn't be an organization for long.

What I like about these two Canadian receivers, other than the fact we snagged them as free agent signings for nothing, is that they share one common and valuable asset….they're reliable.
Do I prefer one to the other? Not really.
I love how both of them put in that effort that sets them apart.
Just very happy that are contributing and that the upside is very promising.
If we sign that Goodrich kid, then we're in a good stead going forward.

I think it'd be an okay decision. Both are nice guys, but too mellow. I still think keeping Morley around as a 6th or 7th OL would be smart, with all the injuries the past few years on the OL. Morley is Canadian, reliable and versatile.

You couldn't be more wrong in your assessment. The new stadium has so many revenue streams. And the stadium debt is a fixed cost, so as the years go by when revenue goes up due to inflation etc, the debt payment goes down proportionally, as a percentage of overall costs.
The Bombers are in a very healthy financial position going forward.  As part of the debt repayment agreement, the Bombers put $500,000 in the bank before paying down the stadium debt.  And where do you propose spending more on football ops?  We had the highest number of coaches last season in the entire league, and each team has a salary cap, so you can only spend so much on players.
