Let it go, not happening.

Interesting article on this topic from the "Globe and Mail" (whatever that is): http://www.theglobeandmail.com/globe-debate/a-textbook-example-of-competition/article21834658/

Wow. Hutch is the real deal. How do you not start him again? He is the only reason the Jets got a point out of that game.

In part, It has to do with opportunities for inner city youth (especially males) throughout the US. So why not baseball? Just as much opportunity for black kids to play baseball as there is for them to play football. Yet the ratios are wildly different. Why? Don't give me some lame partial explanation, you said there is a clear explanation, so let's hear it. -
But I mean, 4-6 weren't so great in that regard either. Luke Skywalker was just about the lamest character you can imagine. Man I want to watch Star Wars now.

I was referring to his claim that it is easy to explain why there are more black people in the NBA/NFL, etc. -

Basically it just shows that you can't make that leap... 10% of the general population being gay has no bearing whatsoever on the percentage of gay athletes. What is the percentage of black people in the USA vs. the percentage of black people in the NBA? Doesn't correlate very closely does it? Or the percentage of black people in the NHL for that matter. No you can't make that leap in any reliable manner. So your point re: stats is correct. But the thing is, sexual orientation is different then race. You don't have a lot of black people in the NHL because there aren't a lot of black people tuned into it or growing up playing it. Or blacks playing lacrosse. Sexual orientation though is different. If you have a pulse, you could be gay. That's why the barriers are going to go down so fast. Thank you for saying this. Yes, there are more Afro-American people in the NFL than in the general population, but the reason for that can be clearly explained. Not so much for sexual orientation, but some people can't quite seem to grasp that. Explain it then -

Except the ending of both was awful. "I've got the higher ground"/"Into exile I must go" were two very good example of how bad a writer Lucas is. Yes you're right, closely followed up by "NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!"

Boring. Can we go back to taking personal shots at each other?

Sure, it seems harmless to allow a gay guy to play, but what's next? Air Bud? It's called a slippery slope, people. -
The "Yoda vs The Emperor" intermixed with the "Anakin vs Obi-Wan" scenes at the end of Episode 3 is the finest moment of the entire saga IMO. Give me something that rivals that and I'll be happy. Also, no Gungans or Ewoks. Or whatever those things were that George Lucas put into the new Indiana Jones. God I'm glad that man is not involved with the new trilogy.

But the point is silly because there has been Pavelec talk ad nauseam for years. To say that one win tonight will ignite a goaltending controversy? The so-called "controversy" has been raging for a while now. Pav-haters have been calling for more Mason/Montoya/Hutchinson since day 1. Pav-lovers have been saying he's just fine. They talk about Pav on the radio every day. One win tonight isn't going to change a thing.

I agree, most players probably DO have a problem with it. Doesn't make it right though. Fortunately, society is changing very quickly. This will be a non-issue in 20 years. Right, just like race relations are a non-issue now. -
Change is good, but change for the sake of change is not always good. And unfortunately for you, all the old actors WILL be in this movie in case you didn't know. Luke, Han, Leia, Chewy, etc... will be in this. What they're trying to do is tie in the old with the new, which I think is a great way to keep it going. I know they will be in it, but I'd hate for them to be the main characters, and I really don't think they will be the focus. It's not unusual to me to not see them appearing in a teaser trailer, in fact I'm glad because that tells me they will be secondary characters rather than Luke and Han vs the universe part 2.

Hutchinson is making a case to start more games. He is not making a case to the number one goalie. But if he keeps winning, then that conversation will inevitably happen. I just don't think we're at the point where one more win by Hutch will knock Pav down to backup status. I also don't think a loss should mean Hutch gets less games. It's an 82 game schedule. Lots can happen over that amount of time.

You're adorable. Yes, everybody is a human being. Is every group of people represented in pro sports equally to their % of the general population? You didn 't answer the question. Why do you think that pro sports people would be different than the general population? I'm curious. Because they are different from the general population in every other way. Really, "every other way"? That's a rather bold statement to make. How so? Remember, we're not talking about behavioral stuff here, we're talking biological/developmental stuff. So how are they different? How are pro athletes different from the average joe? I'll let you figure that one out on your own. It's not hard, I'm sure you'll get it. I didn't think you had a logical answer and it appears I was right. Let me explain something to you, the speed at which you run or the height that you can jump has NOTHING whatsoever to do with sexual orientation. If you have any research to the contrary, I'd love to read it. Acting like any statistic that applies to the general population also applies equally to any specific group isn't just naïve, it's downright stupid. Take any class in demographics or statistics. Come on. You still can't identify how or why a group of pro athletes would have fewer gay members than the general population, other than to suggest that somehow their demographics are "different". You are correct that not every statistic applies equally to every specific group. But normally, that can be explained. I'm waiting for that explanation and no one can supply it. There might be a reason for that. There's a great reason. Because there has never been any study on it because A) You have to rely on people being honest about their sexual orientation, and B ) Nobody is funding a study so politically incorrect as one that says gay people aren't as good athletes as other people, or however you want to spin it. Lack of evidence doesn't mean you're right. But it does mean you jump to conclusions. -

And yet your comment is about the discussion around his orientation and not his football abilities. -

Funny quote from a Vancouver reporter on H&L yesterday, considering the recent history of the Canucks goaltending. "You guys don't know what a goaltending controversy is." Even if Hutch plays well, I think we have a ways to go before it is a controversy.
