    Yes, I remember that too. Only way to sign him currently to a higher contract would require that he is no longer a global.

    Found it;

    A little-known aspect of the league’s agreement for global players is a rule limiting them to a salary of $54,000 – $11,000 below the CFL minimum for all other players.

    So becoming a free agent last month was basically meaningless for the 29-year-old Hansen.

    “We’re not able to negotiate,” he said. “This is a hard situation for me. It’s fair maybe for one year to have us on a deal where we get maybe the league minimum. Because for teams it’s a shot in the dark. But after that, we should be able to. Especially if teams want to pay us more.”

    The Bombers actually tried to sign Hansen to a deal with a bigger salary after his first season, 2019, but the league voided it.

    Word is the CFL Players Association is working to get the rules changed in the new collective bargaining agreement. While Hansen appreciates the opportunity the league has given him,  he’s not sure how much longer he wants to put his body on the line for such low pay.

    “I play all the special teams, I get snaps on defence,” he said. “So I’ve got to see, if they don’t change, if I really want to continue to do it.”

    Hasn't he said he's not coming back under the global tag?

    New CBA might change things to allow us to sign him at a raise, though.

    I thought I read somewhere that Bombers had him signed to a contract, but the league voided it as it exceeded the global tag amount. I'll have to see if I can find that. In any case, it's an issue that should be addressed in the new CA.

    As we discuss this protest, I hope everyone is thinking about what line these protesters are crossing. I bet that line is different for everyone.

    What have line have they crossed between respectful protest (whatever that means) to unacceptable?

    I just want the enforcement to be there when laws are clearly being violated. That would  be a good start. I want the same standards applied to other actions to be applied to this one.

    Part of my job is to organize rallies and other public events up to and including strike pucket lines. There's specific laws around legal struke action, but rallies are different.

    For rallies, we always have permits when needed and ensure traffic (both vehicle and pedestrian) is never impacted as the law requires . We are also respectful of those affected as it is easy  to turn people off, and a fine line between being seen and heard, and turning people off from your message.

    Organizers are also responsible for the actions of each and every person participating.

    When organizing, we coordinate with police to ensure any issues come to the organizers, and frequently meet when needed for example when a strike happens.

    I think these organizers totally messed this one up, and lost control of the participants and the messaging. they  should be ultimately responsible the same way I would be ultimately be held responsible should that happen at any other event, or anyone else organizing something similar.

    But - how long can the average trucker afford to not work - due to some of their co-workers blocking routes?

    By what was mentioned in that twitter stream (that was hilarious BTW)- not long if not already hit. Some are already hoping for that gofundme $$ to get home, that they're never gonna see.

    Daily cases don't mean anything anymore especially with all the rapid tests that are going to flood the market

    I agree. I was referring to hospitalization/ICU numbers that seem to be being ignored. They're getting called out on this now.

    Finished Last Of Us 2.

    WOw- what a game. I never knew a video game can get that emotionally taught. Really well done. Actually deals with the cycle of violence and the layer upon layering of the themes is really skillfully done.

    HIghly recommend this series to anyone.

    It's been out a while so I shouldn't have to warn of spoilers- right?

    Fantastic game and story- but I had so much trouble getting beyond getting behind a character that offed a character so close to you. It was probably different for you going right from one to the other, but I had years to attach myself to a character (though flawed) and then try to identify with the character that ended them.

    I remember on the news just before the border reopened they talked to someone from the Grand Forks Chamber of Commerce. They were itching to welcome back Canadians (and their wallets) but mentioned that they didn't have any public health measures in place so they recommended masking up while there because of their infection rate. Their state tourism slogan should be "Welcome to North Dakota: We'll trade you your money for COVID".

    3 Things stuck out for for me;

    1. certainly not a lot of Canadians making that trip still. Border crossing were relatively quick and easy, especially considering people haven't ben able to do it for like 18+ months. Not many cars with MB license plates in any of the parking lots

    2. Made me appreciate the collective effort we've done. Yeah, south MB is a shitshow, it hasn't been remotely perfect anywhere, but it's light years beyond what they're doing collectively and as a whole. Also gave me a perspective of how they got to where they are at as opposed to us

    3. definitely wouldn't recommend to anyone that values taking precautions. I honestly feel like an idiot for even going for a few hours and doing everything I normally do to protect myself and others.

  8. Well story time;

    Went to Grand Forks today (yes we had the app) and it's gonna be a while before we do that again!

    Had a couple packages to pick up in Pembina  and we figured go a bit further have some lunch, shop, make a day of it.

    You'd never know we were still in a pandemic, 95% of people unmasked, most masked elderly.  People walking around without any care, dirty looks we got from people, lack of measures in place, zero distancing. I can't recall the last time I felt that uncomfortable and unsettled.

  9. I'm still thinking there's more to the story- same way AC Leonard's **** didn't come out right away, and we found out there was more to the story. Guy doesn't spend the night in custody over what's currently coming out.

    Rider organization handling this stuff much worse than the Bombers would. All the more reason to embarrass them this weekend. **** them and two time snitch Purifoy.
