Checking in... Puzzled about the other site, but none the less I'm pleased that we are still talking Bomber football on November 19th...

To be perfectly honest, every day that goes by I care less and less about it because MBB is fulfilling my needs. I didn't bother with MBB previously because I spent all my "forum time" on TEP and didn't have time for another, especially when the conversation seemed like the same except considerably less active. Now with this forum, we have many of the same members plus the MBB stalwarts all in one place and it seems far more active. Obviously the software is world's better.

I will go back to TEP if it comes back but I like it here and will probably end up making this my primary spot. As others have said, as long as there is good people here, including some old e-friends, that's all that matters to me.

Those are just the pending FA's on the wrong side of 30. Anyone think Labatte, for example, has another year in the tank? I wouldn't bet on it. I know they are saying it was a rebuild year in Regina this year, but was it really? With the exception of a new QB this is a very veteran laden team that was the culmination of Chris Jones rebuild really.

You can't be serious that Rider fans think this was a rebuild. The roster was absolutely Jones'. He bailed last minute but left them a stacked roster that Dickie simply had to navigate through. Sure they had an injury to their starting QB but that position was never at any point solidified to begin with and it's not like they knew CoFaj would be their future. I guess if the Rider mentality was that this was a rebuild then that explains why they are making excuses for their exit and now bragging about how they got way further than they should have blah blah blah.

From the list MOAB posted, it is crystal clear that next year is their rebuild, because no way can they keep everyone or even most of those guys.

Stamps fans, and Calgarians, hate us. They hate Winnipeg to a creepy degree.

Why do you suppose that is?

In a mostly unrelated story, I was in Edmonton for a wedding this summer and a rando found out I was from Winnipeg and he just said "Haha". I said, "dude, you live in Edmonton", and said, "Oh, touche".

Maybe its a feeling of thinking they're better than us until they think about it for a sec?

I would be shocked if the quarterback did NOT have the option to go with the sweep or pull the ball himself in the situation you describe.   Surely he must have that option, especially when he can see at the last minute what the defence is doing.  That is also why we need to be careful about calling out Lapo when something does not work.  Yesterday several people were complaining about us throwing a five yard pass just over the line of scrimmage on second down when we needed ten for a first down.  On that play, it could be clearly seen that the QB checked the other receivers who had gone deeper.  Given that they were covered, he had the good sense to drop the ball off to avoid a sack.   I'm sure the OC was hoping that a longer pass would have been on but, given that it was not, the right decision was made.  It was good to have that shorter option built into the play.    It could have been more productive, just not that time.  There is always another team on the field, and sometimes our best offensive work will not be run well enough to beat them.  I think Lapo does a good job and if you would like to check with the Sask fans, they would love to have him instead of Mc Adoo.

Not sure I buy this 100%, although this is a good post.

All too often we see this 2 yard dump offs when we need 15. Sure, it's better than a sack but if this final option is all that's available as frequently as it happens, then we have other problems with our offense in getting receivers into space so we can do more with the football and extend drives. Our inability to keep the offense on the field yesterday in the second half drove me bonkers.

There are so many unknowns at this point.

Earlier this season - a lot of us were thinking that this might be a total tear down of coaching staff if we were one and done in the play offs (the shadow of a HC opening in Toronto also factoring in). I no longer believe that's the case am fairly certain we see MOS signed to a new deal.

Lapo will probably look for HC opportunities and could be a big factor. I can't see Nichols following him anywhere if there is interest from the WFC to retain him (he has young children here after all), but maybe Strev follows the guy that has shaped his career thus far. The new OC coming in will have a huge factor in who we re-sign. A Buck Pierce promotion promises the status quo - whereas a Calgary disciple might want to bring on Arbuckle (as an example).

Do we want to re-sign Zack? Does he have a strong interest in returning East? Do we have faith in Nichols to stay mostly healthy moving forward? Are posters here suffering from back-up QB syndrome in their evaluations of Macguire? (Hint: You definitely are).

I'm really interested to see how the league's coaching staffs sort out in the weeks following Grey Cup. I think that may clear some unknowns up.

The coaching movement question brings an entire different dimension to this whole thing. Had to make my post in a vacuum looking strictly at QB personnel and their assumed interests.

Btw, my McGuire comment was me describing the development spot for a QB (which McGuire currently occupies), not him in particular. I am not with those that think he is hot stuff after throwing one incomplete pass. That said, my point is that we need to find out if the future guy is any good because we could be turning to them sooner than later. Certainly sooner considering circumstance next Monday morning are different than the circumstances at the beginning of this season.

  6. Couple thoughts, and I'm sure I will be posting this opinion (although likely evolving) through out the off-season as we sort this out.

I think that after this year we are going to need to start thinking about the future.

Collaros, even if he wins a championship for us, will not be here next year IMO. There are a few factors: health, desire to be in GTA, TO's desire to have him there (I believe Pinball said as much), first round pick, and Bombers' vision for the QB position both short- and long-term.

I think we win a championship and everyone is happy, and ZC and th WFC shake hands and part ways early and in the most amicably way possible. So what do we do for QB. Personally, I think we re-sign Streveler who has proven both his worth and, at the same time, his lack of readiness to be a starter in this league. I think that's ok and he would happily accept a backup role at a higher salary than he ELC. He will spend next year getting lots of time on the field, no doubt pounding the ball with his legs but also learning more about the pass-heavy CFL game. Not at all sure he will ever be a starter but there is no doubt he is a huge weapon for us, especially in the absence of a premier "well-rounded" CFL QB.

As our starter, I think it's Nichols again. I admit I think he is the devil we know, which is one capable of doing enough to win games. He will not be elite but he will get the job done, and when you throw that in with his age (not old but not getting any younger) and his growing history of injury, he can only be good when complemented by Strev to complete our QB attack. I think it will be largely similar to this year in the way we deploy our QBs, albeit likely with Strev having a more prominent role given his gained experience.

All that said, that's just my prediction and not necessarily my desire. I'm 100% ok exploring available QBs if brass thinks there's something better. Could be a proven retread, could be a young gun looking to be a franchise guy (Arbuckle). We will need to believe they are better than Nichols in order for that to happen, though.

Aside from getting a young QB, if we are stuck with an older guy as our QB then I think we start to take the development spot (McGuire) more seriously. Too bad about the 2 QB rule beginning next year, given our possible situation.

    Someone mention my name? :)

I was lurking for a bit but figured I'd just browse until the other forum came back.  Just want to wish my Bomber friends luck today.  A Bomber / TiCat Grey Cup would sure have a lot of cool story lines about ending droughts.  But this game is insane with its own story lines.  I have always been a Zach fan and have stuck up for him whenever I could. That doesn't change.  He is a great guy and if he leads the Bombers to success I will be extremely happy for him.  Next week's grey cup happens to fall on my daughter's due date to have our first grandchild...so that's where my focus is and  so really don't mind a Bomber celebration this year (especially if you guys can let us have 2020).  That being said....I am still going to be cheering the Riders on big-time today.  I leave for the stadium in about 15 minutes.

Hope any fans that made it in for the game are having a good time.  Weather is fantastic!  Hopefully it is an exciting game....and this year has had some VERY exciting games....so I expect nothing less.

    Cheers!

Wishing you well on family stuff, and horribly on football stuff.

  8. Happy to see both Gray and Eli on the DC, although at the expense of Whitehead, which is unfortunate. I understand he hasn't done much in a long time but it's hard not to cheer for the guy. You'd think that with the versatility he brings, he could be kept as a backup SB to slot in on situations. That said, there's a limited roster size so I get it.

Quite happy with the rest of the DC.

"Be13lieve" weird how they opened themselves up to the 13 thing again.

Is it, though? These are the same people who think that Winnipeg is the only place where a homeless person has taken a dump in public.

They're not a bright fan base. They just toe the line. It's all they have.

They can pan to his wife between all plays, she is certainly easy on the eyes.

In all honesty though Fajardo's injury and his story makes news,  All broadcasters pick a story or two, this game has lot's; Rivalry, Jefferson vs. Hughes, Collaris vs his old team,  Fajardo injury, Strevelor injury, rookie Dickie coach, Evans injury, the 13th man, yes if Fajardo's dad/wife are there to watch him in his first playoff game, Powell vs, Harris #2 vs #1 rushing.

Both sites are very confident going in. Sask is good, they have talent, we need to play a he11 of a game to win, can the Bombers play that type of a game in the riders back yard....yes.

True there are lots of #storylines, but we should take bets on what will be focused on and what we will have to sit through as a TV audience.

Hint: it won't be Bomber stuff and we all know that.

Only TSN will subject us to that. What will be worse is if Rod Black does this game & they keep flashing Father Fajardo on the screen for him to gush over constantly.

Well it's a huge #storyline, obviously. Like can you imagine? A father...being proud of his son? Or his hot wife...attending a game in which he is playing.

Just crazy stuff right there. Who needs a game when you have those #storylines? Nowhere else does this sort of thing happen in the CFL. Truly heartwarming and inspirational.
