  1. a lot of people thought Buck was done before he even signed here... the thought was always that he was 1 hit away from being finished, and we managed to get a few more seasons out of him (with some injury stints).  But if we can get a few games out of Collaros, I agree that moving down 2 rounds in the draft to bring in a veteran when he's really the only option that seemed to be available, isn't that bad of a move!

This is a gamble I can get behind. We had to. Nichols is not coming back, and Streveler is not a CFL Qb. You cant just throw away a whole season when you can gamble on ZC. Tape him up, give him extra padding in his helmet ,and pray to christ he can do something on offence. People jumping in with their negativity need to pipe down.

Red Green is in town tonight.... no one better to "tape him up"

Didn't get him for free. It's also going to be really windy on Saturday, so he may get hurt standing on the sidelines. Maybe they can borrow one of the balls from the Power97 race?

In a complete spin of irony... the trade was actually Collaros FOR the Power 97 balls!  Home Depot is also all out of bubble wrap after Khari Jones & Dave Dickenson made some online purchases!

Experience NOW isn't going to help. There is no QB available that will help the Bombers win now. If they can't find a way to win with what they have, the season is lost (It might already be...)

what harm is there going to be in bringing in a veteran at this point?  We have the cap space, they are 1-4 in their last 5 and still have a chance to host a playoff game.  If you're fine just giving up on the season, well fine, that's you... I think they need to at least try and do something.

Yeah we should regress and bring in an older QB and hand him the keys.  No future in that!

future be damned... they need to win now and think about the next few games in front of them.  Plenty of time to worry about next season in the offseason.   They need experience NOW.

I would agree with you, however, Strev is also an OSH guy and I think that is the direction we will go.

    I don't get this "He's an O'Shea guy" ???  Aren't they all??

Streveler is a fiery guy... I don't think that would change under another coach!

Why bring back a QB who's numbers have declined the past two seasons, will be 33 and just had a serious injury to his throwing shoulder?

Because he's a good character guy, and he says he had his best season ever!    This is going to be all about dollars at this point.  If he really wants to be back with the club, he's got to be looking at taking a team friendly deal, not swinging for a home run pay day!

    Janarion Grant beat Calgary.

and if you look at my previous point, it was mentioned that Defence & Special teams contributed largely to our winning record early on.  So.... it's not as simple as Wins & Losses and QB efficiency rating!  Gotta look at the overall body of work!  And to me, Nichols only really had a couple of good games this season.  For the most part, it was was relatively mediocre performances.

Nichols said he was having the best season of his career and now you want to argue that by only comparing it against two QB's with long careers?????

Don't you feel that this is a bit of a negotiating tactic?  He's got no deal for 2020, and it doesn't sound like the club wanted to work out an extension pre-season.  Of course he's going to try and highlight the good he did this season.  But we all went through this last week looking at the opponents.  Nichols great record this season was largely against struggling teams.  To say he was having a career year, when he only played 3 teams that had a winning record, you have to look at this from both sides.  His best game of the year was against Calgary, so give him that... but he also couldn't move the ball at all against Toronto and contributed greatly to that meltdown loss 2 months ago.  I'd be fine with him coming back next season, but not as the defacto starter, and certainly not at Elite level starter's money.

Upon further review... he actually only had a W against 2 teams with a winning record.  Calgary & Edmonton.

O'Shea saved Nichols career.  So did Richie Hall.  Our W-L since 2016 is nowhere near what it is without a defense that turns the ball over at a record rate from 2016-18.

argument could be made that Harris saved Nichols career.... Harris careered in 2017 with his yards from scrimmage and 105 receptions.  All those short passes propped up the completion percentage and QB rating, and he's been nowhere near that level since this time 3 years ago.  He had a couple good games this year, but to say he was having a career season?? That also says a lot... mediocrity is okay I guess!

When I was living in southern Alberta, I happened to meet a retired historian who had an insight into why Alberta and southern Alberta in particular is so like Alabama.

does he have any insight into what's going on inside Richie Hall's head, or just how bad Nichols injury was?

unrelated, but somewhat on topic.... on the coach's show tonight, O'Shea responding to a caller who was disappointed how the football club has done nothing to bring in a marquee QB over the past couple decades basically just had an on air love fest over Nichols, stating how good he is, how good his record is and how he'll never back down from that opinion "well after I'm gone".   Wasn't sure what to make of that statement.  Tells me that there's no way Nichols won't be back next season if he's still around (which isn't his call), but the "after I'm gone" comment is interesting.   Conspiracy theorist can ponder, but maybe O'Shea is headed to Toronto, and Nichols won't be far behind!?  If in his mind, he's already checked out and headed back to Southern Ontario, that could explain the complacency lately!
