27 yards passing in a half......good thing those are meaningless.

but when you're a game manager, you point at completion percentage (67.7%) and turnovers (0).   Oh, but wait.... he doesn't want the game manager label!

In his mind, he played fine and it was the receivers who weren't getting open.  He mentioned in the post gamer on CJOB that receivers were all covered.  Sounds a lot like the blame game that went on in Calgary last year when he was really struggling a lot.   I wonder myself if the receivers and even Harris to a certain extent are giving up on him.  There was zero spark whatsoever in the 2nd half yesterday!

Mike will just say that Nichols gives the team the best chance to win, that Nichols is the starter & the coaching staff will close ranks. We have seen this before. Nothing will change. Not yet, anyway.

Been the same sad story for 3 seasons now.  At what point do you keep leaning on the teams record and defending him and saying he's among the elite...  hes just not, and I dont think ever will take that step.

He'll play Nichols. He won't play Streveler. I mean, it's obvious.  Nichols is the starter & he won't come out when he struggles.

Cant remember which game it was last season, I think it was against Ottawa.  I walked out of the stadium with 8 minutes left to go because I was sick of watching Nichols and knew he wasnt getting pulled.. that's how I've felt the last 2 games..  if he struggles next week, theres no way the fans will stay quiet and no way the coaching staff can continue to stand by this... the calls for Steveler will be loud, and cannot be ignored.

  4. I backed that play up right after it happened, and yeah, it appeared Demski did have to let up a little and let it get there.... had it been thrown 5 yards further, the adjustment is one stride harder and he's gone!  Nitpicking for sure, as that was probably one of his best throws all night!  But... another long ball missed, which is a criticism of him!

I also couldn't believe in his post game interview he says "that kind of pass is a 1 in 1000".  Come on.... he routinely overthrows receivers wide out of bounds!  Don't act like it never happens that balls sail on him!

Last year at home to Calgary in game 17, which got us into the playoffs,

just re-watched the highlights from that game... the Bombers took the lead with 4 minutes left in the 3rd quarter.  Hardly a clutch come from behind game winning drive.  Thinking back though, if Nichols has generated such a drive at all, it was maybe in his first season as a Bomber??  I don't recall it ever happening.

They just had Stegall on TSN Radio this morning, and he was commenting about how himself & Henry Burris both need to see Nichols have an outstanding game where he throws for 300+ and wins one through the air when the running game isn't working "because that's what great QB's can do", and went on to say that they have yet to see this out of Nichols.

The Calgary game... seems to be a 1 / 15 kind of performance for Nichols.  He's capable of doing it, yes. But the stars have to align, and he doesn't seem to be capable of doing it consistently.  That's the most frustrating thing about his game to me.  Consistently showing that he can be a threat downfield and break a game open at any moment.  Opposing defences aren't worried that Nichols is going to get in there and drive the field with his arm when it's needed.

The way the Nichols was functioning, I cannot see how Matthews would have made any difference. It is unsettling that Nichols was presented with an opportunity to redeem himself and win the game when Masoli went down, but he choked.

Tough to come down with catches when the ball is routinely being thrown 10 yards out of bounds, regardless of the receiver.

What about the two turnovers on special teams? But I do know you’d rather blame it all on Nichols.

The special teams constantly went 2 and out??

Part of this loss is on O'Shea for sticking by Nichols.  He was clearly off tonight, and with the OLine struggling, why not put your more mobile QB in rather than let Nichols continue to take big hits??  Streveler could have at least extended plays by rolling out and allowing receivers time to get open downfield.  Was worth a try, that's for sure!

Wow...I see the posters that were just waiting for this to happen. First loss of the season and Nichols is ****, Lapo is the worst coordinator and the team  is crap.

    This place is so schizophrenic.

And what about the people who even when the team is winning, and still see major flaws in Nichols game, dont believe in him.  Nothing schizo when he opinion doesnt change.

Hes had some good games this season, but against garbage opponents.

Glad its early in the season.... theres plenty of time to get it figured out!

To go back and bring a little context here to the Lapolice post you were addressing, it was not even directed at you.  It was more directed at trueblue83 post 426 page 26, line about 17to85's take on Lapolice:

"In an earlier post he blamed the West Finalresult squarely on LaPo.... that's a joke"

Take the post there for what you will, I see it as an attempt to let Lapo off the hook, maybe you don't but hence my post more in response to that.

How do you figure this was intended to "let LaPo off the hook?".   I don't believe that any one person is to blame for TEAM play.  I was simply stating that in that game, Nichols was awful and seemed shell shocked the entire game, not being able to find anyone down field, or make any accurate throws. The numbers support this.  To place square blame on LaPo for stalling out drives one after another... I'm sorry, but LaPo isn't behind centre.  If the Stamps were taking away Harris, there are typically 5 other capable players out there ready to make a play, and if the QB can't find any of them and make a throw, that's not on the OC.   If he's calling bad plays, that's one thing, but to routinely not be able to find anyone open, or run an audible to make a play happen, at some point the QB has to have some accountability, which you guys don't seen to want to pin any of on him!

Wonder how many times we tried to get the Stamps defense caught off guard with different motions or play actions as they keyed in on Harris, or if jet sweep play actions with Demski or company were used to try and draw pass rushers off of Nichols?

and is the QB not allowed to call an audible if they see something at the line that they don't like!??  surely you can't blame the play call in every single case!

I do not believe that is how he is dissecting Lapolice's playbook

in an earlier post he blamed the West Final result squarely on LaPo.... that's a joke.  Nichols was awful that game, and they had every opportunity to take control of that game had his play even been average.

Anyways.... beating the dead cow again.   Let's see how he continues to perform in the coming weeks, especially with some bigger challenges looming in Hamilton & Calgary!

even out the peaks and valleys. we have periods of dominance, and times where they punt after minimal yards. That is all on Lapo though. Guy needs to stop over thinking and not change how he calls the game and also recognise when to change what isn't working.

your dislike for LaPo is laughable.  the ball is in the QB's hands, and it's up to him to make a play.  I'm sure players make adjustments to routes all the time to try and get open, and it's up to the QB to find that seam.  To blame LaPo for not being able to find a receiver open in an intermediate route??  The QB has to make the play happen!

  13. Nichols played his best game in well over 2 years and was on his way to a big game stats wise.... what I'd like to see is consistency though!   He's shown that he can do this over the years, but never consistently.  If he's under centre on Friday against Toronto, I can see him having similar success.   Hopefully the injury is nothing serious and he can build on this!

Streveler did kinda have happy feet, but we're still talking about a guy with less than 5 starts in his pro career and who hasn't been in a consistent basis.  Can't just look at this game and say 'see, he's not the saviour!'.  He needs more development time for sure!
