I'm fine with Lapo as OC, he does design some good looking stuff but it's time to get Buck calling the plays and if Lapo won't give up the role, then show him the door.

As for Hall, his defense has been folding in crunch time all year, not sure what the answer is there, probably what Oshea said about needing to sniff out the problem on film.

well after listening to the coach's show on CJOB, it doesn't seem like O'Shea thinks there's a problem.  Not with talent, not with coaching, not with scheme.  Now, it's they weren't playing "tough enough".  He honestly believes that they gave up the kind of yardage they did in the secondary because they weren't tough enough!?  They were playing 8-10 yards off the line of scrimmage again.  He also went on to say they play a lot of man coverage and defended Hall's schemes saying he's "one hell of a coach".  He actually rattled off the last drive against Montreal saying they played zone on 3 of the big plays, and then man on a knockdown.  OK!?  So what are you really trying to say coach?  The one knockdown should be praised, and the rest of the lacklustre effort forgiven!?

I don't know if he's shrugging this off as a mind game for the Riders, or if he actually believes what he's saying!?  Because if he doesn't think there's anything wrong with the way the secondary has been playing, he's delusional.   He made the comment about how they "made some adjustments" for the 2nd half against Hamilton, and only allowed 51 yards passing against.... wow, congrats.  You don't think they made adjustments too, and threw in a little more run into their play calling?  They were trying to run out clock, the same way we try to when we've got a lead.  Only difference is, they held theirs with good defence!

I actually didn't mind the call. They only needed 1 yard for a first down, 2 for a TD. They'd been running the ball down BC's throat all game long. If they score the FG, they give the ball back to BC with a minute left to score a FG and they know something about coming back in the last minute of games.

The execution of the play was horrible though.

deception play with Stanback in the backfield probably would have fared a little better.  There was no disguising what was about that happen on that play!

And with Shiltz having run the ball just fine all game, why Pipkin comes in was a head scratcher too!

Anyone see Khari's aftergame speech they showed during the Lions game tonight?

    "We beat the refs"

    SMH

Sorry, the refs were not against you.

didn't quite understand that comment?  the questionable review on the Wieneke catch, the no ejection of Adams... don't quite see how he felt the refs could have been against them?  Because of a pass interference call on the Bombers second last drive!?   He was just too fired up and blurted whatever out I'd think!

NFL cuts are not going to help us, unless it is a guy who has played in the CFL already. NFL cuts who have never seen the CFL game before need to come in and learn the differences in the game. Guess what, the guys on our practice roster were also NFL cuts once, just last year's class. They are actually better off because they have learned our system.

I don't know?  I think if there is one area where a player can make an immediate transition from the American to Canadian game, it is in the secondary.  Pass coverage is pass coverage, and if a guy is fast enough with good vision, I don't care if he's never even seen a CFL game, he should be able to cover.  But, that said... In Hall's scheme, where there is little to no man coverage, it would probably be a waste of talent!

There is the pre-snap motion that will be a little different, but a talented DB should be able to adapt pretty quick.  Who knows, maybe it would be too late in the season!?  I just feel something needs to change, and quick!

  5. there's gotta be some NFL cuts available that we can scoop up.... we've gotta have some cap space with Nichols off the books for the season!  Get a couple DBs in here now so we can do something about this.  Our secondary just looks like they don't even want to be out there!  Awful tackling, and just flat out terrible coverage.  Uninspiring only begins to describe their play of late!

From 7-0 to 9-5 in a wink of an eye.  From a mid-season slump to a late-season slump heading to a post-season slump.  Not funny I know but neither is the fact the guys we pay to guide the team to a cup have the team running around like chickens with their head cut off.  These people are not holding up their part of the agreement.  Fortunately, they are blessed with the best fans in the country but at some point these fans won't want to watch this kind of football.

I had plans in the works to be out in Calgary and stick around for the weekend to see the game in a few weeks... my dad was going to come out there, brother in from BC and go watch a good game!  After last night, that whole plan has been scrapped.  Why waste the money to go watch Bo Levi probably throw for 500 on this secondary. You know the frustration is peaking when you've got 20, 30, 40 year season ticket holders that are seriously considering not renewing next year!  I talked to several long time fans after the game last night, and the feeling is consistent.  This coaching staff needs to be blown up!

    Strev is now 2-3

    Matty 9-2

I want a a qb that wins games...

OK.... "Matty"  VS  BC, EDM, OTT, TOR, OTT, HAM (L), TOR (L),  CGY (vs Arbuckle in his 3rd start?), BC

Streveler... VS EDM, SK, SK, MTL, HAM

say what you want, but the Bombers (not Matt, not Strev) the team... had a much softer schedule earlier in the year, and now we're seeing the true colours.  Very talented team on paper, but can't thrive under it's current leadership.

I hope the Bombers do not try to win the whole game in the first quarter. They have to be steady through the entire game, grinding the TiCats into the ground. A mixture of running and passing would be the best bet to keep the TiCat defence off balance.

You have to hope LaPo spreads his gadget plays around a little, and actually lets Streveler play Quarterback and throw the ball tonight!

Call it a hot take, if you will, but I'd still give the ball to McGuire ahead of Glenn. SM has been in camp all year and will understand our playbook a lot faster than it would take Glenn to get up to speed. I pray this is all a moo point, but if we're playing "What If...?", I think I'd give it to McGuire before freaking out and giving KG5 the moon to come in late season...

Oh, I agree... McGuire should definitely be your next man up.  The thought of him being the #1 at this point though is mighty scary.  Not that I don't think the potential is there, but my god, if you're now down to your #3 for the home stretch!   Yikes!   I'm sure a few other calls would be made in that scenario!

  10. 1 minute ago, Noeller said:

he's said no to Walters already...he's not coming back. Bombers aren't bringing in an "experienced" back-up. Ride or die with Strevelation...

he said no based on coming in as a backup I'm pretty sure.... if, god forbid, Streveler was to go down, that changes the whole scenario.  Glenn would be coming back with the understanding that the keys are his and he will play.  He wouldn't leave the couch for any less I'm sure!

and so yeah, it's annoying to me too to see keyboard warriors calling out football players as cowardly or timid. Especially a guy like Nichols who has come back from some pretty gruesome injuries in his career and who is a huge reason for the team's turnaround since 2016.

the fact that he even wanted to come back and play football after the gruesome leg injury he sustained in Edmonton tells you all you need to know about his grit and toughness. His decision making in the pocket has zero to do with toughness... he gets rid of the ball to avoid getting hit, sure, but isn't that the nature of the game?  Not many can be Mike Reilly and sit in there and just take repeated beatings game after game and expect to last!   If he's played his last game here, he will be remembered as a good game manager with a winning record as a Bomber.  Wasn't the flashiest, but did enough to get the job done more often than not.

That said, I'm excited to see how Streveler progresses.  I think we're in very capable hands with him under centre moving forward!

  12. 46 minutes ago, Booch said:

That is in a sense Strevelers check down...something Nichols didn't bring, so Streveler has 2 check down options...if he shows like he may run, people are gonna converge on him, and if he can get that ball out to Harris...then there will be big yards to be gained

I think as Streveler gets more comfortable, not only will this scenario play out, but he'll keep his eyes downfield and connect on a few bombs because the LB corps is stuck spying and making sure he doesn't take off running.  I really do think Streveler is poised to have a 300+ yard passing game sometime here in the next few weeks.   Here's hoping it's tonight!!

  13. just watching the end of the replay of Saturday's game on TSN.... don't know why I'm putting myself through this, but needed to see again just what went wrong.

A few observations.... from 6+ mins left in, Bomber secondary is lining up 8-10 yards off the line and just giving them everything underneath, and more, because they're backing off as the receivers come to them.  Awful.

The last Bomber offensive play, you can tell wasn't a designed Run-Pass option, it was a designed Streveler run. You can see Darvin slowly jogs 5 yards and gets into run blocking position.  Maybe they get the first if they give it to Whitehead on the sweep.... but at that critical of a point, you can't be running a gimmick play.

Last Montreal drive, the fluke catch by Wieneke, when they slow it down and show the side angle, you can tell that the ball isn't in either of his hands... hence, has to be touching the ground.  How that isn't the indication it wasn't a catch is just brutal.  They rushed that review for sure.

The TD play with 11 seconds to go, looks like the Left Tackle moves before the ball is snapped.  No procedure call.

This whole 4th quarter was just a joke.  And now I wish never to speak of this game again!

Something like, "The Canadian Football League recognizes that mistakes were made from the on field officials to the Eye In The Sky. In order to maintain the integrity of  the league, we acknowledge that we must improve the level of officiating to ensure this does not happen again". That might help.

Also... this franchise has been struggling the last several years, and we need to ensure they are doing well and increasing attendance, so a winning record is paramount.   Oops, we didn't say that out loud, did we!?

Whatever team hires him this offseason as HC is going to live to regret it. He's all sizzle and no steak.

I'm not sure anyone, other than maybe Ottawa, will be looking for a HC for next year.  SK, TOR & BC have new coaches, if EDM makes the playoffs, Maas may be okay and get a pass with the Harris injury.

Redblacks can have him.... can't imagine what that would look like with their QB situation.

Honestly I think it was brought up in the chat room during the game that the only deep shot they took was from Adams. Very strange to not let the qb try and deep passes.

pretty easy to plan your defensive scheme when you know the ball isn't going to get thrown over 10 yards.   You would think that THIS WOULD be the time to pull out a changeup and toss one deep when they aren't expecting it.... LaPo needs to really mix up the playbook moving ahead, or we're going to stall every second half.  The receipt for success against us should now be well known to the rest of the league!
