Odds and Sods - Game 5 - Winnipeg Blue Bombers at Edmonton Eskimoes

Hope springs eternal....Bell fumbles early.....

...but Blue go 2 and out.... then miss FG....

Methinks, that was some sort of omen....

Bomber D looking good...in first half

Westerman really getting into the groove....

Adams getting some respect on the corner....

Hurl still questionable as MLB...

Both teams doing it on D, in the rain....4-3 at the half

Blue O looking pretty predictable....can't handle pressure..

As soon as run works....we go away from it....

Bombers not handing 4 man rush....or for that matter 3...

Tyler and Picard...having their struggles

40 minute mark...the ole fatal tipping point....
....Willy sandwiched...leaves with knee injury.....

As soon as the Willy went down....Bomber went flaccid....

The rain then stopped.... so did our team....

...Drew hit low...league apology coming, after the fact...

Bombers deal with the adversity...in the usual manner...

...allowing a long punt return, followed by TD....

Brohn, to the surprise of everybody comes in.....

..and promptly tosses a pick, albeit, with blown PI call....

James Franklin promptly throws a TD pass to Bowman....

Richards then plays trained seal with a pass....for another pick..

....setting up another easy Franklin TD pass

Bell eludes 3 Bomber tackles for 70 yards....

...setting up, you guessed it, yet another Franklin TD pass...

Brohm's TD/INT ratio?  now 0-5.......

Assume that Marve is still hurt....or there will be blood....

28 straight points for Edmonton, after Willy down....

Give up 3 TD passes to the 3rd string guy...in less than a half...

Discipline problem again...plethora of dumb penalties....

Refs were pretty bad....but Bombers lost on merit....

Another great Western road swing.....

Blow one game....get blown out, in the other.....

Tackling on D, fell off in 2nd half....

Another key special team breakdown, then INTs...

...giving Esks a short field for easy scores....

Blue tired of the beat downs, in Edmonton?......guess not.

From MOS, on down....having real doubts about coaching....'

Team lacks jam, and may simply be toast....

DOD lacks patience, right now.. and may simply be burnt....

  • It's not that I want to see Marve play, I just don't want to see Brohm play....

  • Stoudermire was among the best returners in the league last year. I'm willing to give him another game.

Yup -  the 2nd and 3 play where Cotton (only guy in backfield) takes a deep handoff, and runs into 6 guys....

True, Boltus is probably worse. Dinwiddie at least had a few decent games.

Garza. Sammy ******* Garza.

The team folds not because they just saw Willy get hurt and leave the game, but because they see Brohm come into it.

Was that the son in law?

You guys aren't even scratching the surface.

Mark Jackson (back-up to Deiter Brock)

Troy Kopp (minus 30 minutes vs Saskatchewan)

Stefan LeFors

Keithan McCant

and the two biggies:

T J Rubley

Tee Martin

Stoudermire was among the best returners in the league last year. I'm willing to give him another game.

He's not getting it done and the other guy has gotten it done, isn't that the entire basis of your Marve vs. Brohm support? Why the different opinion here? Stoudemire might have been great last year, but this year he's been useless and actually a detriment to the team whereas Veltung has been good. 2 chances is plenty in my opinion, when the CFL is as tight as it is you can't piss away games letting guys figure it out.

Veltung has just been alright. He has gotten the job done but hasn't proven to be a gamebreaker, like Stoudermire was capable of last year. If Stoudermire can get back to last year's form, I think he's our best option.  That's why I'm willing to give him another shot. If he falters again, I suppose he deserves to be sat until Veltung proves to be ineffective.

Brohm is a 30-year old QB  who does not belong on professional football field.  What's the use in dressing a QB who can't throw nor run the ball? I don't see how the two situations are similar at all.

Yeah. He was the son in law.

I'll bet no one can remember Art Schlichter being on the negotiation list.

Might as well add Jim Zorn to the list. Very high profile. Complete bust. And the dude is head coach of the Redskins!

How about Wally Gabler or Wably Gaylor as we called him.  Horrible QB.  Just freakin horrible.

Casey Bramlet was the worst I've ever seen.

Mind you, the guy was hardly set up to succeed, he came in midseason and was thrown to the wolves by Kelly. But he looked like a toddler out there.

May not have been much of a QB but that's a damn fine name for a footballer.

Yeah. He was the son in law.

I worked on the ham line at Canada Packers with Mike Murphy back in the day, he wouldn't let me near his sister so she settled for Sammy.

just have to watch the film and make a few corrections and adjustments.

I wish the positivists would show up and say something. They always say the negatives only show up after a loss. How come they only show up after a win?

Maybe dazzled by Brohm's pedigree. played with Favre, and coached by so and so and such and such. Heismann candidate second round draft. Maybe he's great in practice. solid character guy… seems to be the first thing they look for, even said that in an interview.

Maybe Offence collapsing is the only way the players can get it across to the coaches that they don't want Brohm in there.

What are you talking about? There was a positive thread made like right after the game lol.

Twice now we lose Willy to an uncalled infraction. Brutal.

Also, Brohm is terrible. And Marcel has the imagination of a wet potato.

Hey.. Watch it you! Lol.

Did Jack West (wesloski) work there in HR when you were there? Spend much time at the Chalet? Or am I thinking old plant on archibald and Marion....

Sorry Rod, missed these questions.  Didn't know Jack but I only worked there a couple of summers and yes it was at the old St. Boniface location.  Half the Murphy kids had jobs at CP because the GM lived across the street from them in River Heights.  One of the company nurses was Cal's wife.

Chalet?  Oh yea, well before it lost it's soul and became Teasers.

I always thought Gabler was a good qb. He just had no talent around him to work with. He was here in 69 & 70. About as bleak then as it was in 2013.

Tom Porras

He is lighting it up with his tight end these days in jail!

Nostalgia just ain't what it used to be.

You sure it's not his wide receiver?

Tommy Pharr....

With the list of QBs I've seen in the thread... I might not sleep tonight with all the terrifying memories!

There were also two standouts in 2005-2006 in Russ Michna and Tee Martin ..

But yeah .. this cavalcade of quarterbacking excellence isn't going to put anyone at ease .. lol  :D
