Garcia to Als

Garcia added to coaching staff.

Nice move by Popp... found his replacement for Higgins, now its just a matter of time.

No actual coaching experience, but he does train QB's so he could help Montreal.

Oh great Rod Black will now bring up Bo Levi even more and then somehow go in a circle and talk about No Bowling and it will be an endless loop

The Rod Black Drinking Game sets record for sales. Police set up road checks to catch more drunks. Details at 11.

So if Garcia is QB coach, then AC not likely headed there after his "endless" vacation.

Are we all keeping track?  They're up to 14 coaches now:

  1. Tom Higgins, Head Coach
  2. Noel Thorpe, Assistant Head Coach, Defensive Coordinator and Defensive Backs Coach
  3. Ryan Dinwiddie, Quarterbacks Coach
  4. Erik Campbell, Receivers Coach
  5. Mark Speckman, Running Backs Coach
  6. Kris Sweet, Offensive Line Coach
  7. André Bolduc, Offensive Quality Control Coach and Assistant on Special Teams
  8. Keith Willis, Defensive Line Coach
  9. Greg Quick, Linebackers Coach
  10. Anwar Stewart, Defensive Quality Control Coach
  11. Jean-Vincent Posy-Audette, Defensive Assistant and Special Teams Assistant
  12. Don Matthews, Consultant
  13. Turk Schonert, Offensive Consultant
  14. Jeff Garcia, Offensive Consultant

Garcia could end up playing yet.  He's only 44.

@HerbZurkowsky1: Although he's 44, Jeff Garcia said he'd consider coming out of retirement to play QB for #Als. I believe he was serious. So ... Stay tuned.

unless the als were to go 1-17. which seems to be where they are heading.

Desperation thy name is Als

He'd probably do okay. The guy is a phenomenal athlete.

I'd love to see someone like Willis absolutely kill Garcia on the field for having the ego to step back out there again...

Phenomenal athlete or not. He is 44 years old.

No one is immune from time.

Smacks of underestimating the quality of play up here which is silly for a guy who played here...

There is a saying that as we age, we tend to remember how good we were and forget why we quit. The quickness, stamina and bounceback just isn't there any more even though we can feel in the moment that we are as good as we were. When /if he gets into daily reps, Garcia will remember.

Too many consultants.

They need more authorities, specialists, gurus, sages and savants.

If they have an opening for pundits, I'm applying.

Wasn't Damon Allen 44 when he retired?

Imagine of Garcia started against Bo Levi? Rod Black would explode!

The comedy continues in Montreal.

Now I liked Jeff Garcia, guy had quite a career having success in this league and then going on to have a hell of a career in the NFL taking some teams to the playoffs and winning playoff games too.  That being said, this is likely a move to put him at QB coach, maybe freeing Dinwiddie up to help get some better prep in his playbook or something.  Taking on that much water for the guy isn't good at all in this situation.

That being said, I must agree that all this bringing in of more consultants and merely swapping or adding position coaches for the Als isn't going to fix the root of the problem.  If you're gonna find what the root of the trouble is, you gotta point to the power struggle going on up in their Administration.

This article pretty much sums it up http://www.montrealgazette.com/sports/Alouettes+lose+ugly+offence+falls+flat/10084382/story.html

I think what happened was Popp wanted and wants to hold onto two hats, as both HC and GM of the team.  But Mr Wetenhall doesn't want that.  I think he expected Popp would voluntarily go back to being GM by season's end, but when he didn't Mr W stepped in with the hire of Higgins.  That as was said was a pretty late hire, and seems the staff was kinda thrown together on the fly, hence the whole Worman situation that happened.  This begs the question as to why did Rob W extend Popp's contract another 3 years.

Seems like the wise thing to do would've been for the Als to just let Popp have that HC job and hang onto it unless the whole bottom falls out, or else let him go after this year and get a new guy who's gonna add new players and take the team in a different direction.  Because right now, it seems Popp as a GM is losing interest in having only that position, and he shouldn't be going after old NFL outcasts to form his rosters, he oughtta be getting the Als scouting back to younger talent and look into more proficient Canadian talent.  I mean, you'd figure in a major city like Montreal, down the road at Ottawa, or even making some trips to Toronto you'd find quite a stable of Canadian talent at the local universities there.

Kinda sad he was running around the Arena league when he could have come back up here.

Yeah... Damon Allen was the CFL MOP in 2005 at 42 years old and then retired at 44.

Garcia would probably still be the best QB on the MTL roster.

No doubt b&g.

Unreal.. So this has to be considered absolutely that the wheels fell off, right? Montreal is hooped..

On another note.. As garcia is a "coach" and say he's paid 600k a year... If he steps onto the field of play, does that not count against the cap now?
