The TV Thread

Second season of Orange is the New Black launched today.

Anyone else into this?

I have to admit to being a bit of a TV/movie-phile.  I generally buy Blu-Rays when there's a movie I want to see rather than just watching it on PPV or In-demand (I like to collect).

Premium TV has really been leading a creative resurgence in recent years, probably dating back to The Sopranos.  Its nice that Netflix has become a legitimate competitor for HBO (which puts out some really great shows like Sopranos, Deadwood, Boardwalk Empire, True Blood etc).

House of Cards was tremendous.

While cable channels like AMC are getting in on the act, I annoys me a bit.  The Walking Dead would be so much better on Netflix or HBO where they could truly appeal to adults (HBO passed on The Walking Dead when Thomas Jane was attached).

As for Orange, it took me a few episodes to get into last season but Im looking forward to banging out a few episodes tonight.

As an aside, for you Trekies, it was recently the 20th anniversary of the finale of TNG, one of the best Series' Finales in TV history.

Until Gord Downie started talking about Charlie Wenjack and the Residential School system, I had absolutely no clue I'd been living my life in complete ignorance. Then when the discoveries started happening....that was it. I really made a commitment to learning. Shutting up, listening and learning as much as I can. I have a number of indigenous friends in the Manitoba music world and they are very passionate about sharing their culture and helping idiots like me learn, which I'm trying to do every single day. We can no longer sweep our terrible history under the rug. It all needs to be brought to light.

Thank you for taking this journey. Education is the key. Most racism is born out of ignorance and I am proud of my brothers for opening that door for you too.

The word native also refers to where a person was born. As in, being a native of Winnipeg. You mean, that's offensive now?

To some, yes,

We cannot heal what we will not acknowledge. I have known those were damaged by the residential school system and those whose experience was benign, but thee second were far fewer. Pretending it never happened is the path to it recurring.

Agreed.

If you look in a dictionary, the word native has more than one meaning.

"The Spoils of Babylon" is excellent, I've never heard of this series before as it was made in 2014 well before I owned a TV, it stars Tobey Maguire, Kristen Wiig, Tim Robbins, Jessica Alba, Val Kilmer, Haley Joel Osment, Michael Sheen, and Will Ferrell.  Completely over the top in all regards.

While waiting for Silo and Star Trek Strange New Worlds to air this weeks episode I starting binge watching Loudermilk, I like it.

Never got into this show. I loved the old show. Tom Selleck WAS Thomas Magnum. Jay Hernandez wasn't. In the old series, Higgins protected & managed Robin Masters property. He wasn't a woman. He wasn't a love interest for Magnum. He was his foil. Higgins never liked Magnum at first but over the series he begrudgingly respected him & they became friends. Some of the best scenes in the old series was the interaction between them.

I tried watching the new series but just couldn't get into it. They would have been better off to have just made another Hawaiian Private Eye series. Selleck wisely stayed away from the new Magnum as he is busy with Blue Bloods.

Season 2 of The Bear has arrived.

Just finished episode 6. Jamie Lee Curtis is going to win an Emmy for her performance and wouldn't be surprised if the director won as well.

I could find legit uses for many slurs. Context is everything. That being said, native isn't so much a slur as it is just the incorrect term. I am fine being described as a native but I prefer Indigenous, as it is more accurate.

It's not enough to recognize it happened. Recognizing it happened and that it was wrong, and created severe damage is the path forward.

Ryan Seacrest has officially been tapped to replace Pat Sajack on Wheel of fortune

I knew something like that was bruin.

Just finished up Loudermilk, it was really good and rumour has it that they are trying to revive the series with as many cast members including Cutter from season 1.

Holy crap I did not expect the Amazing Race Canada to Start in Winnipeg

Just finished the season finale of Silo and I thought I had figured outside out but it can be interpreted a few different ways

Love that Segel got a nom for Shrinking and Lyonne for Poker Face. Two wildly underrated shows.
