Jovon Johnson unsure he'll be back with Bombers

I think it's time to move on from Jovon. Looks like the Bombers may be thinking the same: http://www.goerie.com/article/20140207/SPORTS0509/302079940/John-Dudley%3A-Johnson-set-for-camp-then-free-agency

He's unsure how serious the Blue Bombers are about bringing him back despite his being named a CFL East All-Star defensive back four times and winning the league's most outstanding defensive player award in 2011.

After picking off 22 passes over his first four seasons with Winnipeg, Johnson had only one interception in each of the past two seasons. He said that's created a misconception that, at age 30, his game has slipped.

"I think a lot of people determine how good a season you have by the number of interceptions," Johnson said. "But that's only one part of it. I had 62 tackles last season, which is the second most I ever had. And I played about half the season at safety, which changes a lot of things."

Johnson also forced one fumble and recovered two, one of which he returned 48 yards for a touchdown.

"I have plenty of football left," said Johnson, who spent one season with the Steelers in 2006 but turned down subsequent reserve/futures contract offers from the Dolphins, Jaguars and Bengals because he felt he deserved at least some guaranteed money. "I haven't really thought much about it yet, but I know I'll play somewhere in 2014."

Some of those nightmares were self-induced.

Jovon might be right that he's got lots of football left... but what the last 2 years has proven is that that football should be at dimeback or safety.  The guy can still play, but he's not a cover corner anymore.

Actually the last two years have proven to use he has no business playing football anymore. He's not half the football player he was 3-4 years ago.

Never seen a DB get beat deep as often as Jovon had been the past 2 years. Quite the accomplishement given some of the players on the roster through the Jim Daley seasons. Good riddance. Looking forward to Walters swinging for the fences tomorrow!

Jovon Jhonson tweets he's movin' on per CJOB sports show @ 6:45pm.

whoops. Sara O tweeted first and I can't find a delete button.

2011 was something special and a lot of fun. It's not 2011 anymore and grillers just wanna have fun.

@saraorlesky: Jovon Johnson tweets that the Bombers have told him they won't be bringing him back this season #CFL

Good

To be fair though, Pontbriand would have been an improvement over Cauchy...

Justin Sorensen would have been better than Cauchy last year, at safety.

In Etcheverry's defense he just may be.

Jovon Johnson's days are over with the Bombers but he was a soldier with us. I just want to say thank you & wish him well.

Geoff Currier sure climbed high on his soap box to repeatedly browbeat the Bombers' "lack of respect" for JJ because O'Shea reportedly told JJ via voicemail that they were not offering him a contract.  Currier compared it to the average person getting fired from their job, which ofcourse is a silly comparison.  Nobody beats a dead horse quite like Currier.

Were they nightmares? I guess that's why he looked like he was sleep walking on the field.

Can you blame him, I'd hate to have Creehan and Burke as my two bosses giving me direction ...

News flash JJ signs to play arena ball in hometown of Erie PA. Now reported he had to buy the team for somewhere to play.

Can you blame him, I'd hate to have Creehan and Burke as my two bosses giving me direction ...

Classy.  I remember when we first got Burke and JJ was singing his praises.

Has he checked his voicemail lately?  :D

In fairness Burke was a great pickup... I don't think anyone could predict how badly he turned out as a hc.

Me too. I'm listening to music on my iPhone. My guess is he just decided not to pickup when he saw who it was on his caller ID.

And with the amount of time Jovon spends on Twitter, I guarantee he has a smartphone.
