Vaval should be good to go for the 2nd half as per DT.

  • That was the absolute worst ******* two downs Condell has called all year Collaros gets rocked, you know he’s gonna be a bit slow and we just give him a ******* insanely long-to-develop play call two

My theory is that the Rider fans realized that having a fan favourite short yardage guy is pretty fun and now they are just way over compensating based on how they treated Streveler.

But everyone knows that Stevens isn't a QB. He's a guy under centre who can push the ball forward. If you are gonna have him pass the ball you are going to have a bad time. There's a reason why he's only attempted 21 passes on 80 game.

Or why Osh could have possibly thought Cobb was a better option at boundary receiver than Singer?

Did singer play boundary receiver tho? Thought he took Demskis spot. I liked what singer did also but doubt he’s getting as many looks in cobbs spot as he is in demskis. Singer looks like he’s more Wilson and maybe white even. Same build really. That’s not boundary receiver. But there’s been plenty of receivers who have a game or 2 then nothing.

Singer was good but he’s not even Greg Carr level yet. And what’s Cobb done besides catch 90 percent of the balls thrown his way. Acting like receiver 5 is making differences when receiver 1 catches 1 every 2 or 3 his way. At this point Cobb has been more consistent than Nield and Wilson.

Edited by Goalie

And no Cobb shouldn’t be starting but at this point he’s more consistent than receiver 1 who I suppose is Wilson and whatever Nield is. 5th receiver ain’t making much difference for anyone. Cobb knows his role. He’s not the reason our O sucks tho but yeah, odd decision making to start more cdns than necessary when you don’t have the talent to do so and that’s coaching. But yeah all Cobb does is give effort every play. More than pokey and white do. You watch pokey and white when not involved? Doing nothing. Cobb? Busting his ass.

5th receiver ain't making a difference is such a disingenuous argument.... If you got a guy there who can make plays it forces the defense to account for them which should give the other guys more space. When you're trying to do receivers by committee why the **** handicap yourself with a backup level Canadian starting?

it isn’t tho. It would be if that was the only problem with the O. It isn’t tho. It’s not even top 5 problems honestly.

Unless coaching is being counted as 3 separate issues it absolutely is a top 5 problem on offense....

yup....this notion the 5th is a waste of space and not gonna see balls anyway is dumb logic

Look back at our cup wins...all 5 guys were a threat...made plays...and had to be accounted for...same with the good teams now...no guy is out there as a starter and after 12 games is averaging 1.5 catches a game for a sparkling 11 yards a game

Just look at 2018 for example...Woli was our 5th guy behind Demski..,Darvin Adams...Dressler and Bowman...went 45 for 650...5 td's

2019...we had Woli..Adams...Lawler..Demski..Whitehead/Bailey..no duds there...We even moved on from Mathews thatyr who was in some kind of haxe...and still had a Peterman and Grant as backups

2021 we had Adams..Demski..Woli..Lawler..Bailey with BOLO and Grant...again...where is the useless slug?

2022...Schoen..Demski..Bailey..woli...then Ellingson but got hurt and filtered thru some guys..Agudusi..Harrison....but still had BOLO and Grant...nowhere to be seen where the likes of a Cobb or Corcorran..A not ready for prime time Daniels...and we been sliding ever since that yr trying to replace

None of those yrs did we have to employ a guy..let alone 2 that had minimal impact...all those guys were a legit threat

coaching is the underlying problem because they choose the roster....it aint ZC being asked who he wants out there.

Further complicating things..and again leads right back to coaching is the void we have at center...never thought I would say I wish Kolo was still here...He may have been low tier as a center but he made the right calls for most part

Singer would at least make the defenses have to match up with him. There is absolutely nothing Cobb does that is even a remote threat to score. He's not really a possession receiver. He's not a deep threat. He's there as a decoy. Cobb has to come out of the lineup. As Doug Brown said take Cobb out & figure out who replaces him. Singer has to play next game.

With demski back next week you play him inside and slide Nield out in cobbs spot..ideally you use Clercius over neild and rotate different guys and looks outside..make defences have to account for and decide coverage based on who's outside

A group of White..Wilson..Demski..Singer and Clercius used as our main 5 with Neild as the rotation/backup is our best unit to move forward with.

Id even go as far as pooching Cobb right off as we still will roster Daniels anyway and replace him with Stuart and put him at safety...Kelly has shown he's not the guy for there so make the tweak..plus Stuart killed it on teams until inexplicably being yanked off the roster..he has most upside of any of our cdn db's so its foolish not to develop him and at least at minimum work on teams and own it..much like Smith did his rookie yr

Yeah but that makes too much sense....

Here's how I look at it, sports and real jobs share a lot of similarity in leadership. The coaches job is to make sure the players are given what they need to succeed. That means preparing them properly, using their talents in the best way possible... I will compare it to my workplace... 2 years ago we had experienced field people, they didn't need much management, it was here's the job and they knew how to do it. Now with some departures there's less experience so more hands on management is required. Extra preparation, more thought about ok can this person actually do this or do I need to use someone else... I think this is where our coaches are falling short. I think they're still treating it like it's 2021 and Bighill and co. Are going to handle a lot of that themselves.

it's kind of amazing that a rookie receiver comes in, goes 5-62-1 TD... and we're genuinely not sure if he'll start the next game...

I tend to agree with this. Good analogy. My work is similar. Never looked at it that way. Things running smoother now that 2 problems are out of the way, yes I would put coaching in 3 different problem groups, Condell is a problem, JY is a problem, Osh is a problem. They all have more flaws than Gavin Cobb who just does his job. I just look at the O and see more issues than who zachs 5 option is really when he barely looks at read 3. Oline sucks. We don’t have a true 1 receiver, singer is solid but he’s not a lawler, he’s another pokey really but perhaps better hands or more consistent. He’s another pokey and Tim white look a like really, all similar sized. A number 1 guy? No prob not but a solid 2 or 3 I’m sure. We have 3 of those those already. I’m all for Singer playing, and I’m certainly not saying Cobb is better cuz he’s not, but Cobb has a role and dude competes every play. When I look at pokey or white, I don’t see that effort that Cobb brings. I see a couple of guys who are pretty lazy when not involved. That to me is a sign of a bigger problem than who your 5 receiver is. Should it be Cobb? No. Should it be singer? Also no cuz he’s a waste in that spot. Cobb is Jamie stoddard. He’s a lesser Woli. That’s his role.

If being honest, Nield shouldn’t be starting as he’s done sweet **** all And that wasn’t supposed to be his role, I’m sure he’s being paid well to do nothing

Just bc you’re listed on the depth chart as the field wr doesn’t mean you have to be the #5 option. Philpot plays out there a lot and he’s the most targeted receiver in the league. We can also move him around.

Comparing our O to Montreals is interesting. We aren’t in the same planet as them offensively. Our O sucks, changing 1 receiver won’t change that. I mean I’m all for singer playing like I said, I just think he’s more pokey white Demski than lawler or a philpot or a Snead or a Mack even. Really what we lack is a true number 1. But we also lack an O that has any true identity, we lack an oline who routinely gets our chronically injured now starter damn near killed every game, our starting qb ain’t what he used to be also. Our OC is playing checkers while everyone else playing chess. That’s not even true, there is strategy to playing checkers also. Montreals QB is elite, ours is closer to retired, arm is shot, accuracy is gone, happy feet

Yeah hes not option 5 per say..a good recieving group and schemed team also doesn't look at guys like that positionally.

He's undoubtedly 5th best of the starters tho..and rarely gets looked to or involved because he won't really offer you anything and really doesn't make himself an option on any given play

If he was getting himself open and free...or found himself behind coverage for a kill shot...or streaking free across middle on a slant a qb will find him.

We as a team essentially scheme him out of the play by the insistance of playing a lesser player there..I agree he gives it his all..Is probably a great teammate..does all the right things...but that alone doesn't make the player...or justify the spot when you could use a better option

Much like Thomas before he retired..checked the same boxes...except the key one

Both are just 2 examples of a coaches choice trumping actual value to the team.

Just look at our reciever numbers 1 thru 5...even the 6th guy when we actually had..and rostered talent and compare Cobbs numbers..what Corcoran had put up...and even Neilds...they aren't even close in comparison or value to the offence

Therein lies a big part of the offensive woes

Ya that was sure apparent two weeks ago..........

So if we don't have a true number one i would rather go with 4 2/3s and a 5 than 3 2/3a and 2 5s......

I should have been more clear, I meant switching Cobb out for Singer would mean more than just changing who our #5 receiver is. I’m 100% in favour of making that change.

yeah agree...and really, he should just be seen as one of the 5 starters....and is being replace...finally... by the better option
