Bombers signed former REDBLACKS DB Deandre Lamont.

Lamont is a player that gives us options, hed played safety corner and halfback

If we decide to move Allen to corner Lamont could step in at safety. If we pr him.he could back up several positions. At only 27 it should raise the competition level as well. Really a low risk signing

He either makes it or not.

I can see him at corner game 1..unless another Alford drops outta nowhere

I say this knowing osh and how he is..and will favour the vet if he had access to one

Sure he played Alford and Nichols immediately but had to...we had no vets and open spots..Holm too was due to injury...

If that was training camps with old vets ...we would never have mentioned Nichols or Holm..again..and Alford wouldnt be in the NFL now

Wasn't Holm actually cut...and then brought back cause of injuries?

He was cut after the first pre-season game but was brought back soon after and slowly but surely worked his way into the lineup where he appeared in nine games with four starts. As a full-time starter in 2023, he proved to be one of the best halfbacks in the CFL, and he further cemented that in 2025 when he was named the team’s Most Outstanding Defensive Player for the first time in his career.

@Booch I am pretty remember you're not high on Holms before.

I think you can count on the Bombers not running a smurf at boundary corner this year.

They've got Allen plus 5 other guys 6'1 plus, two with CFL experience, coming into camp at DB.

No more watching a 5'9 guy with no ability to play the ball eat **** on 50-50 balls vs 6'3-6'4 receivers.

I would imagine if a DC has more reliable cover guys, he can than make more use of pressure packages / blitzes

you can, but blitzing is hard and strange in the cfl.

The more guys you have that are reliable in coverage, like you said, you can do any ting and every thing better.

D today is all about how well you can blanket with out breaking, and how well you can disrupt at the line. If a guy isn’t one of those or a guy who heavily enables others to do that easier, they aren’t an asset on the field. Just a body filling a spot.

If you can take away over the top routes with out a massive bubble, you can run up and play the ball or the man and disrupt the pass too.

Guys who can do both are worth their weight in championship rings. Guys like ba, biggie, and wj in their prime.

I wouldn’t be surprised if we find another db this year. We got lots of good vets, but we scout db and use them really well.

Like him more than I did..that being said stixk him at safety as a true over top guy...he's a waif and gets out muscled and isnt a strong tackler...thats why he gets targeted lots...hed be a killer int machine at safety if his eyes are as good as these fancy feet we here about

Our secondary save for Nichols and Griffen were a right bunch of wussies who installed zero fear in anyone

I’d bring the house on every second play hence why i call plays from my couch and not on the sidelines.

My hypothetical DC resume would just be me screaming a quote from Remember The Titans “YOU BLITZ, ALLLLL NIGHT LOOONNNNG”

So yeah, hanging on to my day job probably the wise move…

Second and long. 5 DBs, bring the house!

It was at the point where every commentator was noticing it, but opposing O's still had no answer for it.

I DON'T WANT A RECEIVER...TO CROSS THE LINE OF SCRIMMAGE!

No answer for a blitz because 5 blockers on the line can't block 6/7. Bring a running back up or a slot to block then you take away offensive choices & weapons. The qb has no one to throw to & gets sacked. It still works today. We see the best teams doing it in both leagues. What';s even better? Creating pressure with just 4 pass rushers like we used to do & the guys on the back end don't have to blitz.

disruption with 3-4 and pressure with 4 occasionally 5 is best. It leaves you with the most options.

No answer with blocking for the blitz.

The way to beat the blitz is to attack the cushion. on either side 2/3 targets, you will have only 1-2 dbs on the line usually 1.

So you have one guy clear out and throw to the under route. If it’s your 3 man side you have the 2 under guys force the nearest defender to jump one. If the cover all play up on the line you bust them off the line and take it deep on a timing route.

That’s how dons D was beaten. Teams stopped trying to out block them, and started using the spread to get the ball out quick.

The counter for coverage, is to show and drop guys, rotating coverage showing man and dropping into zone, generally forcing the qb to change his read at every point possible. If you take away the qbs ability to rely on his pre snap read, you make it very hard to run the quick game and beat the rush.

After that, the best option is to move the pocket a lot. Drastic line shifts, slide protection, half and full roll outs etc. It is very hard to effectively rush the qb, when you don’t know where he’s going to set up.

Some people get caught up with play action, but that just slows the process of getting the ball out and setting up protection with the back. Jet/fly/rocket/orbit motion packs on the other hand can be effective at beating the rush but it requires a very specific threat to work.

If you can disrupt and pressure with your base though, it’s extremely hard to beat that with X’s and o’s.

That's what they did in 2019 & 2021. Base D with a ferocious front 4 applied pressure. Then you add Biggie & the pass D & that's why we gave up just 181 points in 14 games in 2019. Ritchie Hall's D killed other teams.

Yep. I love what jy and hall, but that is pretty much the only stretch of time we had that consistent disruption/pressure. Haven’t had great personnel on the dl over that time, but we also haven’t developed or made use of guys in that time.

I hope hall and thomas focus on the dl and disruption while jy runs coverage. we’ve seen hall run some brilliant front concepts when he’s had the horses.
