Permission to talk: Is O'Shea leaving?

I figure the arrogant Osh will end up in Toronto and it may be a good thing for the Bombers. Their cup run is done and time for new blood to lead the squad. I am forever grateful for what he did for this club but it is not the worst time for a change.

If MOS pounded the desk for JT cuz he wanted him to play in 2025, I think if I'm Walters I'm rolling the game tape come 2026.

Yea....I don't particularly see a rookie draft pick not getting many reps as a bad thing necessarily. Some teams do and some teams don't and I am just fine with a slow roll out if that is what a coach chooses. We have no idea whether Shay or Smith would have helped or hindered us by getting regular reps, and I don't see our LBing corps as a particular area of weakness where we had to roll the dice and find out.

If the mafia are all back this year, I would hope that it is after Wade Miller has driven home that their jobs depend on better job performance this year.

Say or Smith wouldnt have been a huge difference maker....but wouldnt have hurt us either, and would have been so much further in development for 2026 tho, the larger issue was it would have allowed another import elsewhere...say a legit Dline man to delete Thomas....an Imoport olineman todelete Kolo....a true legit WR threat

You cant look at the thing just player vs player....it affected the entirety of the roster...a poorly crafted one for us in regards toassetts/value/worth....and coupled with his insistance to not vary from his rstio allotment....just handcuffed us more

Some mildly interesting stuff on Bonfire last night....

Bauming indicated that O'Shea very much "runs things at Princess Auto Stadium"... That he's the one who is in charge of everything.

Re: Kent Austin and why he would leave a cushy job in the NCAA, apparently he has expressed interest to people in the CFL about coming back again, according to Farhan Lalji. Farhan seemed to think he'd be a good fit in Winnipeg having played here before, but also said that Jordan Younger would be a good choice as well, and might be the only way to keep him from returning to Toronto with Osh.

Austin was a complete disaster in Hamilton and the only other time he's been in charge was a one season stint.  He's also 65 years old.

Jeff Hamilton of the WFP was on Winnipeg Sports Talk today. Sure sounded like from what he's heard the Bombers brass (Miller) wants Osh to stay. Hope he's wrong.

If he leaves I'm more interested in how TO does over all. Maybe not year 1, but 2 and 3 for sure. That ultimately will be a tell of how things went down this year.

When has Toronto ever been down for more than a year or two?

Well that's part of it. Is it more of that or is it more sustained like he created here?

I read somewhere yesterday that the Bombers have an offer on the table for him, and told him to field as many other offers as he wants, but to come back and talk and they'd be waiting.

Fortunately I have access to a crystal ball and it shows 2026 - 2029 to answer your question.

I can't help it that I really despise this team but go CFL!

HC has final say on how talent is assembled, GM has final say on what talent is available to the HC. That's how it works on our team, and every other team out there. Our lack of talent is 100% on the GM. We sit here and grouse about guys like Jake Thomas, but it is Kyle Walters that keeps putting contracts in front of him. Every offseason is an opportunity for the GM to get rid of or keep talent. The HC does not have any form of final say on the roster in that time. It is 100% the GM's job and responsibility as to who will be out there come June. If you know you have a player that you should move on from, even if he is a coaches favorite, it is 100% (and this can't even be disputed) up to the GM to have a tough conversation with a player and the coach who loves him and then swing the axe. It amazes me that you would think otherwise.  During the season, it is tougher on the GM to do that for sure, but at the end of the day he is the boss and the HC is the employee. If that is not the way it works in Winnipeg then Walters isn't doing his job properly.

This isn't some new phenomenon, for crissakes Walters signed Collaros to a 2 year extension the year after he clearly looked cooked. Is that on MOS? Not a chance. We've been talking about Thomas for the better part of 3 years now. Walters re-upped him twice. Walters hands out the contracts not MOS.

There is plenty of room on the gibbet for three.

Big no on Kent Austin from me, last success he had in the league was nearly 20 years ago.
Hamilton was **** when he was there, plus he comes across as kind of a jackass. Never been a fan.

I’m not completely against bringing in someone with HC experience If MOS leaves but I’d rather they bring in someone who’s had their finger on the pulse of the league sometime recently, and preferably not old enough to collect CPP.

Yup. got it done and didn't let it drag on. I know some will be pissed at this but in the CFL you can rebuild at the drop of the hat if there is a will

Good, but we better see some dead weight on the roster jettisoned.

If he trots out JT in 2026 I will make a special trip to the Peg with torches and pitchforks in hand. Oh and glad you’re staying MOS!

Pretty sure Osh and Miller have had many convos on what went wrong this year and I expect changes. Now what about Walters

Curious that it's only Osh mentioned as a re-up so far....

Berger is a former radio reporter who covered the Argos as sideline reporter about 30 years ago, and spent most of his career on the Leafs beat. He now works -- I'm not kidding -- at a funeral service, and often makes seemingly-in the-know predictions on social media. His track record for accuracy is not stellar. He's kind of Marty York Lite -- no longer working in the media but still wanting to seem connected.
