I’m not giving anyone a hard time but a lot of us don’t know how extremely respectful and caring the majority of first responders and medical professionals are to people who are experiencing severely distressing situations. Dark humour is a coping mechanism to keep them sane and focussed on the task at hand. You have to be built a certain way to do this type of job. Tracker 1

For those of us who have worked a long time (30+ yrs) in “the field”, it does not give us free reign to be disrespectful, under the guise of using black humour as an earned coping mechanism. johnzo Posted 1 hour ago Report Posted 1 hour ago back in the day I was friends of friends with a bunch of ER nurses from the big trauma hospital in town, the one that pulls all the really gnarly **** .. got to party with them fairly regularly ... and damn those ladies had some funny stories to tell ... but if my life were on the line I'd be glad to be in their hands. was hanging out with some American submariners in the aftermath of that billionaire imploding himself at the Titanic ... their jokes were funny as hell but were very very dark.
