Really easy to always say that there's some mystical coach out there that would be a better fit.  We've been through generations as CFL fans watching teams including our own who keep believing that.

Patterson is trash...zero upside there...not sure the reasoning other than in case Strev isn't ready to go week 1

I also see Strev used as a legit QB and full breadth of the playbook...Wilson showed he can operate the short yardage and why risk running Strev into that mass of bodies..and risk injury to knee early on...maybe next yr but this yr be foolish

I think your being too harsh ,Patterson beat both Toronto and us last year and had several 300 yard games in the 6 games he started, and was 2-3 and 1. not bad for a qb in his first games.

Streveler, whether its playcalling or what, had 1 3/4 games  where he had significant minutes, hes 1-1 ,  threw for 127 and 170 yards. Lost to Calgary.

Riders had 5 turnovers off Dukes in that game, including a pick six for winning TD.  TD pass he threw was a screen that Emilus took 35 yards breaking 4 tackles.  Started 3 drives in the redzone off turnovers and scored 1 TD.

Patterson is a bottom half of the league backup QB with no upside.  Interesting thing with him is when he was allowed to pass downfield he turned the ball over like crazy.  7 turnovers in the 3 games he threw more than 25 passes.

and Dukes is better ? kinda made my point..  Just saying Strev and Dukes or Dolegala arent better options

Neither is great, but dukes has raw potential.

Hoenstly if strevy is healthy in decent time and Wilson has continued to grow I’m not worried. QBs 4/5 are camp arms.
I can see value in having 2 experienced league guys in at those spots to bring along WRs/dbs and get the offence installed faster. No one has to make the adjustment to the Canadian game every one has run O in games.

Dukes is the best QB of the names listed there.  Dolegala has similar numbers and production as a starter.

By either QBR metric Patterson is a significant drop from Dukes, and Dolegala.  And Dukes has 2 years as a pro where Patterson already has 5.  Going into 2025 Dukes would be a good backup with upside to maybe become a starter.  Patterson would be one of the worst backup QB's in the league with basically no potential to be a legit starter in a passing league.  Even if you want the option package guy, Stevens (who Sask has signed) is better, Streveler is probably better if he has any health.  And that's just of guys who have already played in the league.

It's a bizarre signing and unless Streveler is out until October doesn't make a whole lot of sense.

Training camp fodder?

none of the backup  qbs we have do I see as being able to succeed Collaros.  Needed to bring in some newer options, However in the CFL with such a short preseason, and adjustments to the cdn game its very difficult to assess potential.  To me they are all close to the same level.. Feels like we are bring in these guys to compete at training camp,

Any chance that Zach is contemplating retirement and they are signing a bunch of guys as replacements?

Doubt it. Think this will be his last season though.

Some of these signings such as Cobb, Patterson and Sterns feels like Walters is shopping at the 29 cent store and randomly throwing items into his cart.

Dukes improved with reps

Dukes got worse the more he played.

Regardless, neither one excites me very much.

temu specials?

Strategy might be to have Patterson and Dolegala learn the system through camp.  Then we cut them both and there are a couple options out there who are a phone call away when Streveler gets hurt again.

based on what I see of Streveler on IG I can’t imagine he won’t be healthy for training camp.

Why would you just bring in 2 players at such an important position knowing you're going to cut them anyway?

Sorry wbbfan, I respect your opinion except here. Dukes is trash. JBR says he has upside. Where? So much upside he lost the the QB2 to journeyman Nick Arbuckle. Yeah, he beat us.... Well no, Arbuckle didn't beat us, Osh being Osh beat us. That being said, not thrilled with the Patterson signing, either.

Toronto's offensive coaching and QB development is so much better than ours that I have to agree with this. If they've chosen Arbuckle twice over Dukes—especially since Arbuckle is older and has no upside—then something must be off with Dukes. If they couldn’t get more out of him, why do we think we could?

He's raw. Last year was his second year and first starting. IF you aren't going to put arbuckle in in a situation like that, why have him on your roster?

Remember, Wilson is OLDER than dukes still. He was a young guy forced into action virtually right away. You know what you get with Arbuckle, if a D has a chance to prepare for him they should beat him. Dukes is still largely an unknown he hasn't had the chance yet to try to adjust to how teams play him.

Like I said, I'm not crazy about Dukes, arbuckle, or either rider off cast qb. But Dukes easily has the most potential of that whole group. All 3 are old and well-exposed in the CFL.

Same way I feel about Dolegala (over Wilson) in the Grey Cup.

I still believe firmly we should have been the team to trade for Maier.  He's was the most reasonable option to take over for Zach next season if Zach retires.

Is it? Bombers did develop Dru Brown who was the most sought after young qb.... what have the argos done? Kelly sure but they developed dukes so well they decided arbuckle was a better choice...

I think they got more out of a first and second year QB in Dukes than i've seen us do. I'm taking more of a longer term view. In the past 15 years is there a team that has developed more QB's than Toronto? Our one example is with Brown. Even the current regime has struggled with any other qb than Brown that it has tried to develop from rookie.

My opinion is Wilson will be the QB of this team moving forward into 2026....Grooming him with Strev to see who grasps the starter role...the other will back-up....I could care less about a number 3 guy to be honest...Patterson...Dolebanana offer the same....very average at best play.....no upside really and not a starter in the waiting....Wilson has everything you want and its very visable...heasnt got a lot of reps....yet....put in his time on the field shows wayyyyyy moe than Dru ever did in his first 2 yrs...Dru looked scared and confused...Wilson doesnt...and Wilson has a better arm...

Why take a 15 year view of things in the CFL? Most of those years are not even remotely applicable to now. Different GM, different coaching etc. etc. Saying that Toronto is better than us at developing QBs currently, because of Collaros or Harris is nonsense. In the last 5 years we have developed 2 backups that either spend significant time in the NFL, or are now providing quality starts to another team. I would say our track record developing QBs is pretty darn good right now.

just need to keep them....and move forward....I cant see ZC re-upped regardless how this season goes......and definitely for not over 450k if they make tht dumb decision....which in all honesty wouldnt shock me as long as Osh is hanging around

Here's the plan, we win the GC this year, ZC retires a winner and as a Blue Bomber. Win Win Win.

The way i view it Chris Streveler was given a chance to showcase a skillset that he was born with at the CFL level. He's never demonstrated that he's developed into an adequate passer at the CFL level. At the time he signed in the NFL a few NFL teams were enamored by what the Saints were doing with a chance of pace QB and saw some footage of what Steveler could do with his legs. Somehow Streveler was able to squeeze enough juice out of that situation to earn himself an NFL pension and good for him. I'm happy he was able to do that. By no means is he some kind of testament to our QB developmental skills. When he comes an adequate passer at the CFL level I will change my tune on him in terms of being impressed by our QB development skills.
