  • I liked the part where @SpeedFlex27 quoted himself so he could regale us with his illustrious curling memoir.

  • Whether he comes back to Winnipeg or not, Strev will be a Bombers legend for life, after that playoff run (and all he did within it) and the post championship celebration... Afaic, he is a Bomber for

As long as the bonus doesnt kick in til past the nfl window. Paying him a big bonus just to play the remainder of this season may not make sense

It's a signing bonus, it would be paid immediately for the extension. And would allow him to be paid very, very well for the remainder of this year, while not leaving us committed to a crazy cap hit for him next year if he doesn't get NFL interest. Doesn't make a lot of sense to give him a big roster bonus for after the NFL window next year, he'd have no reason to sign that and come up here today. He may as well just wait till then. Mean while we have excessive cap room because of the lack of signings and use of the cap extension.

Elgersma doesn't help us this year, no matter what. But he might be our only real QB hope for the future currently.

I assume the ideal situation is having him with the club next season as a 3rd stringer and starts 2027?

Cut Strev and keep Wilson as backup?   Or vice versa?

For us, I think best case is he sits down there, gets released late with out TC invites for next year, so signs with us early enough then is in full rookie camp forward. I'd say go into camp next year with zach, elgersma, wilson, chase, and strevy or another league vet. Then break camp and dress Elgersma as qb3. Hopefully with a vet as a qb2, and 1 qb on the PR. If chase/wilson doesn't pan out you use the PR qb spot to try out developmental guys.

He looked really poised and professional in his appearances, it would be great to get him here this season if he doesn't catch on to anyone else's PR

Aye, there's the rub.

In that instance I think Trump is all talk. He mentioned that months ago and nothings come of it.

I guess he's been busy with his tariffs. Trump may ignore something for awhile but then that same something pisses him off & he reacts.

I think it speaks more to the point about Elgersma (and his camp) being willing to exhaust *every* NFL possibility (no matter how odd the fit might be) before considering coming back to Canada.

I think the CFL rookie deal had a lot to do with it. From what I understand it's something like $75,000 Canadian for 3 years.

Doesn't seem to want to play here  in Canada now, Im sure he thinks he's a nfl player. There's no guarantees he's good enough to play here there are thousands upon thousands who can't.

Doesn't want to play here? Based on what?

Right now he is going to exhaust his NFL opportunities but when that’s exhausted and it could happen pretty quickly I think he becomes pretty eager to sign given the opportunity to burn through a year of his entry level deal in the CFL.  Does he want to make 75k still as a starter in the 2030 season or deal he want to make 450k?

I might be wrong but I thought the league made a change a few years ago that means years spent in the NFL count as years served in the CFL (for NAT players). So a drafted player who was in the NFL for three years (even if only on practice rosters) would be able to sign the going rate and would not be bound by the CBA rules binding NATs to $75k for their first three years in the league. If this is correct, Elgersma has no particular need to burn a year at this point.

It’s true.  But I’m talking about a scenario where he’s got no more nfl teams willing to work him out. I’d fully expect he would want to be on an nfl practice roster rather than come here.

Yea cuz he’d be paid more but if that isn’t an option and so far it doesn’t look like it is he will be here. Just like pokey.

What's the scoop on Elgersma & Wilson? Did they catch on to any PR's??

Elgersma worked out for the giants 3 days ago who apparently didn’t previously plan to add a qb to their practice roster.  Crickets since then.  I would be a bit surprised if someone added him considering the Packers didn’t bother to do it.  Given his lack of experience with the American game I wouldn’t imagine that he’s a guy you call when you need depth when you have an injury.  And the Packers passed on him as a developmental guy.

ufl announces it’s shutting down 3 teams, memphis, michigan, and san antonio. but that it’s also looking to expand in the next few years and focus on smaller more intimate stadium/markets.

Merger talks have already begun.... Zero question.

The 3 teams are being relocated for NEXT season. They have already announced that Columbus is getting one of the teams.

But, your are correct in that they are looking at teams playing in small stadiums.

Noeller's street cred  as a UFL Insider is right up there with Daffy Duck. How can the UFL playing 10 games from March to July in mostly the Sun Belt States merge with the CFL playing18 games from June to November?

Now to be fair, Daffy Duck’s probably as much of a UFL insider as anyone given the popularity of the league

I would not be surprised at all if they’ve been going on for a while. maybe even agreed to a deal in principal.

There are many questions that need answering first. What about the ratio? The timing of the season between the 2 leagues? The UFL starts training camp in February. We start in May. Spring in Canada isn't spring, especially in Western Canada.. it's still winter & bloody cold.

Then there's the number of games the CFL plays. If we drop to 10 then most CFL players will be released as the revenue to pay these contracts will no longer be there as its based on 18 games. The UFL wants to be done by July. We want to be done mid November.

Getting an agreement done for a merger with the UFL will be impossible with the CFLPA as it means the probable end of the ratio. They'll strike or take court action. So, I don't think a merger will be that easy.

I don't believe for a second a merger is done.  Down the road, maybe? The UFL said it's looking  to expand to 16 teams by 2030. So, yes, it could happen. However. there's a lot on both sides to overcome.
