Covid-19

The Trump administration projects that 3,000 people will die daily from COVID-19 by next month, nearly doubling the current death toll, according to an internal document first reported by The New York Times.

The report from the Federal Emergency Management Agency predicts that the daily death toll will increase by about 70% from the current average of around 1,750 deaths a day. The agency also projects that the number of new cases will increase from 25,000 per day to 200,000 per day.

The data was included in a slide deck that was branded with the logo of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Both the White House and the health agency denied that the projections had been issued.

"This is not a White House document, nor has it been presented to the Coronavirus Task Force or gone through interagency vetting," the White House said in a statement to The Washington Post. "This data is not reflective of any of the modeling done by the task force, or data that the task force has analyzed."

Jared Kushner's shadow coronavirus task force used a spreadsheet called 'VIP Update' to procure PPE from inexperienced Trump allies over legitimate vendors

After One Tweet To President Trump, This Man Got $69 Million From New York For Ventilators

The Silicon Valley engineer, who had no background in medical supplies but was recommended by the White House, never delivered the ventilators.

Don't bother. The article in the link posted by Petty Officer Woke is more than two weeks old. Not to mention it's a biased source with libertarian leanings and questionable factual reporting: https://mediabiasfactcheck.com/mises-daily/

To those saying COVID-19 is less deadly than "they" are saying, they need to explain the excess deaths first.  It is possible that more people are dying from COVID-19 than is being reported.

Excess U.S. deaths hit estimated 37,100 in pandemic’s early days, far more than previously known

By Emma Brown ,Andrew Ba Tran and Data reporter on the rapid-response investigative team Reis Thebault

 May 2

The United States recorded an estimated 37,100 excess deaths as the novel coronavirus spread across the country in March and the first two weeks of April, nearly 13,500 more than are now attributed to covid-19 for that same period, according to an analysis of federal data conducted for The Washington Post by a research team led by the Yale School of Public Health.

Apologies if this has already been posted.

Cargill plant south of Calgary is site of largest coronavirus outbreak in North American

"There have been 921 cases of the virus at the Cargill plant south of Calgary, which has 2,000 workers. One worker in her 60s died, and her husband was hospitalized with the illness."

"A statement from Cargill said all employees who are "healthy and eligible to work" have been asked to report for work for the plant's two shifts."

Allowing a plant like this to re-open is a potential disaster in the making.  A huge portion of the workforce are TFW's who live together in cramped apartments and are bused or car-pool to work each morning.  How confident can they be that they won't lose their jobs if they refuse to return to work and be replaced by a new crop of ignorant TFW's?

Sounds like Kenney is setting up a test lab to see if people can catch the virus twice.  Thanks Jason.

Well, the COVID-19 outbreak was identified in South Korea and in the United States on the same day.

After struggling with previous responses to SARS and MERS, the SD government had drawn up a specific pandemic playbook based on test, trace, isolate - high tech contact tracing, massive amounts of tests produced quickly, and Zero-Tolerance Isolation measures.  As well, the activation of consistent messaging - daily briefings by scientists and medical experts, only .....to update the public and promote best practices, such as social distancing and hand-washing, regardless of location.

Today, South Korea has fewer than 300 deaths.....the U.S. more than 70,000.

Not even going to belabour the sorry specifics of the Trump Administration's efforts in dealing with this crisis.   Posted a couple of months ago, that thousands of Americans would die needlessly.  Hoped I was wrong, but.....here we are.

Just for clarification on this story, more than 800 of the 921 have recovered. Still really awful, but just for clarity's sake....

That's how Kenney's comms are spinning it too.  I don't really see what the purpose of the clarification is.

We know that most people don't die from COVID-19.

What some of us fail to care about is that these jobs are so awful that only the most desperate work at them.  So desperate that they come from other countries (and "worse" situations) and live in sub-standard housing and are held hostage by their workers' permits and their employers in a so-called civilized society.  It's tragic that a 67 year-old Vietnamese refugee died when she should have been comfortably retired after 20+ years at the plant.

Question is, how safe is the meat or the packaging coming out of these infected factories......people are made of meat.

The stoopidity contagion has spread to Quebec:

Quebec Cellphone Towers Damaged As COVID-19 Conspiracy Theories Grow

False narratives about 5G technology have led to attacks in Europe.

MONTREAL — The major crimes unit of Quebec’s provincial police is investigating after four cellphone towers north of Montreal were set on fire within the span of a few days.

Provincial police spokesman Marc Tessier says the latest fire occurred at a Rogers-owned tower in Laval on Tuesday morning. It’s the second fire since Friday to hit one of the company’s towers in that city.  Two other towers about 70 kilometres north of Montreal — one operated by Rogers and the other by Bell — were hit early Monday morning.

Tessier says the major crimes unit will investigate possible links between the four fires, including whether they can be traced back to people espousing conspiracy theories about 5G technology.
