Covid-19

I'm starting this thread as a side discussion of all things Corona Virus related. I understand that this is going to be discussed in almost all other topic threads but we could collect news and other items here.

At work, many conferences have been cancelled.

NBA - Suspended.

NHL - About to be suspended.

NCAA March Madness - Playing - no crowd.

Political Rallies have been cancelled.

Travel bans.

Rita Wilson and Tom Hanks tested positive. They're in Australia where testing is available. If they were in the US, they wouldn't have been tested.

Saskatchewan Health Minister hopes Riders ‘make a choice’ for fan vaccination requirement

Saskatchewan Health Minister Paul Merriman wants the Roughriders to make Mosaic Stadium a vaccine-only facility for fans.

The Riders are one of just two CFL teams yet to mandate proof of COVID vaccination or a negative test for anyone attending their games in Regina.

“We’re in constant contact with the Riders. If the Riders want to make a choice, that’s up to them. I know some other CFL teams have been able to do that or made their choice. We hope that the Riders will make a choice in the near future,” Merriman said.

Policies have been announced in B.C., Calgary, Winnipeg, Hamilton, Toronto, Ottawa and Montreal, leaving Edmonton and Saskatchewan as the only remaining CFL teams that permit unvaccinated fans to enter their stadiums.

(The Rider fans probably won't even hear of this)

Imagine having the power to do something to help your citizens and you choose to let a sports team make health decisions.

Imagine being the Riders, with the ability to protect your fans and saying, nah.

well at least we are down again, but I'm not liking those delta cases

Imagine telling all your players that they should be all vaccinated and protected then not do one damn thing to protect thousands of people that come to watch them.

So was reading Hannover School Division's twitter and they're announcement of the new policies. They put the blame on the province. It was interesting there is a teacher on that thread who asked what about those who do not get vaccinated? Told by the Supe, those people can get tested three times a week. Response = what about those who don't get tested? Its like um believe that means you get fired.

The whole point of being a right-wing government is that you can absolve yourself of all responsibilities for the public welfare, after all, its everyone for themselves. You can stand by your guiding principle that its all about personal responsibility. If an unvaccinated person infects you, you obviously were not vigilant enough.

Once you go down that path - then masks and lockdowns were not necessary either.

Since author mentioned Israel, here's another article about Israel. https://www.google.com/amp/s/amp.cnn.com/cnn/2021/08/25/health/vaccine-risks-infection-comparison/index.html

An opinion piece written mostly by people with a Ph.D. in History... not sure they actually know what they are talking about in this case.

The fact that vaccinations, masking and lockdowns have worked to reduce case spread throughout the world proves this to be wrong.  What's going on down in Florida does as well.

It's nothing but an article that dances around the periphery of anti vaccination/ anti passport/ anti mask. Look at the state's in the US that embrace this mentality , they are the worst hit by the 4th  wave. Look what is begining to happen in Southern Health where less then %20 of the population has half the cases. Nothing makes us safe but vaccines, masks and passports make us safer. Articles  like that are nothing but fodder for covidiots.

There was also a veiled pro-Conservative slant in the article, wrapped up in generalities and a “if we can’t fix everything, why do anything?” mindset. Since vaccines don’t actually stop the transmission of COVID-19, then forced vaccination is pointless. Except they gloss over the fact that vaccinations reduce the severity of the illness if contracted, which leads to less hospitalizations and strain on the system, among other benefits. And the article starts with a jab at the NDP for promoting the mandatory vaccines and passports, saying it puts into question Singh’s entire ability to be a leader, and then concludes by saying the Ontario Conservatives seem to be taking the only rational approach. Hmm, almost sounds like there is an election going on and someone wants to take sides with a back door argument.

The Sun is an alt-right rag. Well, let's just call it the "right" now because there is no difference. It's owned and run by Americans who want to push the moronic right's agenda. There is no value in that rag.

The vaccinated spreading Covid is also a popular talking point that is often misrepresented. Yes vaccinated people CAN spread it, BUT the likelihood that they will is reduced, even a possibility that vaccinated people only spread it when symptoms appear. But no one talks about the details...only "YOU STILL GET IT!!! YOU STILL SPREAD IT!!!". Super annoying and dumb.

The last time I read a sun newspaper was several years ago while waiting on an oil change and yeah,  it was ridiculously partisan to the point you can't even call it news. I doubt they have gotten  any better since.

But readers of the sun will tell you that everything else is biased and the sun is the only one that reports news. Ask the PCs who spread B.S. about how biased the Free Press is.

One. One MD.

31 cases today.

Southern Health leading the way yet again with 14. Winnipeg with 9. If you compare the two adjusted for size, Southern Health is even worse looking.

I'm not a doctor but its almost as if vaccination has a positive effect.

Exactly, and there have been doctors and nurses out there refusing the vaccine for various reasons and those are the ones the anti-vax, anti-mask crowd point to and say "See even these medical professionals don't trust the vaccine"...

Some doctors come out of Med school with a 4.0+ GPA, others around 3.0 or possibly less (not sure what the fail mark is), but at the end of the day, they are all called doctor once they're done.

And those numbers are in all likelihood far worse. The same anti everything crowd will only get tested if they are very, very sick. These aren't  contentious people that want to know if they are sick so they don't spread Covid and get tested early .

I absolutly had to go to Winkler today for things I just can't get elsewhere easily.  I had trouble getting what I needed so I went to 4 buisnesses.  No employees or customers other than me had a mask on. Not one. I finally went to The Bulk Barn and saw a masked customer going in and their workers were masked.  Good on them  for being the lone business that cares about their staff and customers.
